Thank you for your cooperation. 7 CAR WASH Thomas Jefferson Drive As you get your car washed, help the poor and needy. We receive 10% of what CTR parishioners pay. We regularly donate this income to LINK, S.O.M.E. and the Women's Shelter in Leesburg. As you pay at the carwash, tell them you are from CTR so we receive their donation. MOVING? If you are leaving the parish, please let us know by calling or dropping us a note. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE Engaged couples must make arrangements at least six months prior to the date of marriage. All are required to participate in a marriage preparation program. Please call the office to make an appointment. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism is ordinarily celebrated within a faith community. Please call the office to register for a preparation class and to arrange for a time for the celebration. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Guadalupe Chapel. OFFERTORY GIFT BEARERS What an honor it is to carry the wine, hosts and offerings to the priest at Mass for consecration. Families and couples are invited to sign up to bring the gifts at the Mass that they designate as their preference. SENIOR GROUP The CTR Senior Group meets Fridays at 11:30 a.m. in the Library for Bring Your Lunch meetings or at a local restaurant on the second Friday of the month. SACREDNESS OF LIFE MEETING Christ the Redeemer Sacredness of Life group proclaims the inherit dignity of every human person from birth to natural death. Our mission promotes the sacredness of life through our parish family and the community through prayer, education, service and advocacy in accordance with the teaching of our holy Catholic Church. BUSY COUPLE S 7-DAY ONLINE RETREAT In honor of National Marriage Week 2015, Bishop Loverde will lead an online retreat for couples beginning on World Marriage Feb. 8 through Feb. 14. Each day, Bishop Loverde will offer reflections and practical steps for growing closer to Jesus and to your spouse. The retreat will conclude at 10 a.m. on St. Valentine s Day, Feb. 14, with a live reflection, exposition and Holy Mass led by Bishop Loverde at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More, in Arlington. FOR EBOLA CRISIS JAN Archbishop Paul Coakley, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Catholic Relief Services (and Archbishop of Oklahoma City) has requested a special collection to support the work of the Catholic Church in combating the Ebola virus in West Africa. Here at CTR, this collection will be taken up next weekend, Jan Catholic Relief Services has long been active in the three countries most affected by Ebola Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. As there is no vaccine or cure for Ebola, the best weapon against the virus is information about how to avoid contracting or spreading it. In Sierra Leone, CRS is working to see that those who die of Ebola their bodies dangerously infectious receive burials that are both safe and dignified. Much work remains to be done, first to contain Ebola and then to alleviate the damage it has done. KNIGHTS FREE THROW CHAMPIONSHIP All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2015 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship on Monday, January 19 th (Martin Luther King Day) at the St. Joseph School gymnasium, located at 750 Peachtree Street in Herndon. The gym will be available from 3:00 to 4:00 PM for registration and practice shots. PLEASE NOTE: Starting at 4:00 registration will end and the competition will begin. A parent or guardian of each participant must sign a registration form, which will be available at the gym. The Christmas Season comes to a close with the Baptism of Jesus. The newborn child who brought shepherds and kings to be heralded by heavenly angels now appears at the river to John the Baptist. Amongst the most ordinary of people, God proclaims and blesses the beginnings for Jesus ministry. No one is just the circumstances of their birth. In fact, through sacraments of initiation we are called to be new creatures, joined to Christ s Body and mission. 6 Dear Parishioners, I would like to thank the parish family of Christ the Redeemer for your kindness and friendship during my time here with you. Effective January 15, 2015, with the permission of our Minister General, the Very Reverend Brian Terry, SA, and the fraternal support of our pastor, Fr. Patrick Cogan, SA, I will begin a new ministry as the priest serving the community at Joint Navy Expeditionary Base Little Creek Fort Story, in Virginia Beach. As you may know I retired from the Navy Chaplain Corps in 2010, with the rank of Captain, having served for 24 years in the Active and Reserve communities. Due to a grave shortage of priests in the Archdiocese for Military Services, I requested permission to serve as a Contract Chaplain for an installation which has been without a priest for the past six months.
