It is not a mere contract with another person, more or less lasting, for an exchange of love and good times. It is not even merely a status that the state assigns to your relationship if you fulfilled the legal requirements for entering into marriage. Catholics hold that marriage is a vocation, a call. It is a way of life that offers continual opportunities to be in loving service to the other. Marriage has a way of calling us to make this happen, and of making us want it to happen. It is both a splendid reality and serious business. ~Helen M. Alvare, Esq., Life Matters: Marriage, the Sanctuary of Life, Respect Life Program

This year World Mission Sunday is celebrated on October. 21. Annually, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on the next-to-last Sunday in October. National Bullying Prevention Month OCTOBER 2012 Submitted by Keahi Teson, Safe Environment Coordinator Though some may dismiss bullying as just a part of growing up, the truth is that bullying is an abusive behavior that has serious consequences for all involved. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Here are some articles you can share with your families, your classrooms and your parishes. Bullying IS a Big Problem Every day thousands of teens wake up afraid to go to school. Bullying is a problem that affects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on its receiving end. Yet because parents, teachers, and other adults don t always see it, they may not understand how extreme bullying can get. Click on the Bullying IS a Big Problem link above to learn more. What Can You Do? For younger kids, the best way to solve a bullying problem is to tell a trusted adult. For teens, though, the tellan-adult approach depends on the bullying situation. One situation in which it is vital to report bullying is if it threatens to lead to physical danger and harm. Numerous high-school students have died when stalking, threats, and attacks went unreported and the silence gave the bully license to become more and more violent. Click on the What Can You Do? Link above to learn more. Life Issues Forum Submitted by the Respect Life Office From last week: Which Child to Abort? 15 Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, Oct 18 Submitted by Jose & Mary Elizabeth Alvior, Hawaii Worldwide Marriage Encounter Over the past SEVEN elections, Hawaii has had LESS THAN HALF of all registered voters actually VOTE in the primary elections. For the general elections, Hawaii has had yet to have more than 70% of registered voters vote. In 2008, Hawaii had the LOWEST voter turn-out and in 2010, we were 39 th. These numbers tell us that the majority of people in Hawaii do not believe voting is important. As followers of Christ, it is our duty to stand up for what we believe to be good and just and to vote for leaders we believe will work to make laws that will allow everyone the opportunity to live a good life. So get in here and join us for a discussion on why voting is an important duty as a citizen and Christian. Discussion will be led by Eva Andrade, Director of Hawaii Family Forum, and Jim Hochberg an Alliance Defending Freedom Allied Attorney.
