Word of Life Intercessions for Life August, 2012 Submitted by Deacon Walter Yoshimitsu, Chancellor August 5, 2012 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time For the leaders of our nation: that they may remember that the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness apply to all people, from conception to natural death; Bulletin Brief The State is at the service of the person whose well-being it safeguards in its many aspects, starting with the right to life, whose deliberate suppression may never be permitted. Special Workshop Presentation, September 13 Submitted by Fr. Manny Hewe, Vicar for Clergy Special Presentation of Walking into the Light: Realities of the Internet (for religious education directors/coordinators, youth and young adult leaders, school principals and teachers) The Internet has greatly enhanced the way we communicate, but there is also great risk that is associated with it. The Internet pornography industry has larger revenues than Microsoft, Google, Amazon, ebay, Yahoo, Apple, and Netflix combined, with more than 100,000 websites peddling pornography every day. The Internet, including social networking media, offers a new outlet for acting out sexual impulses. How are we as Catholics called to respond? Date: Wednesday, September 13 Time: 9:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (lunch included) Place: St. Stephen Diocesan Center For more information, please contact Fr. Manny Hewe at (808) or mhewe@rcchawaii.org. 6

8 I Saw it in the enews and Read it in the Herald From Elina Simon, Executive Assistant to the Vicar General As we begin this 16 th Week in Ordinary Time, we continue our series by Lisa Dahm with another article that describes how funds contributed to the With Grateful Hearts campaign are being used to advance the goals of your diocesan Road Map. To read the article, Grateful Hearts Campaign / Road Map Priorities: Grant Helps Cover the Cost of Training Future Deacons visit: Lisa Dahm is a contributor and former reporter and photographer for the Hawaii Catholic Herald. For a copy of the Hawaii Catholic Herald call or herald@rcchawaii.org and ask about the "Pass it On" Policy which allows you to share an issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald with a friend. Herald staff will send your friend a free copy. If you give your copy away, the Herald will send you another one while supplies last. Register Now for the 2012 Diocesan Youth Day! From Lisa Gomes, Director, Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Just a friendly reminder that registration for Diocesan Youth Day, are due by August 1, Fee increases to $60 per person after August 1. This event is fun for the whole family! Blessed Pope John Paul II believed that young people were not just the Church of tomorrow, but the Church of today. To better equip them for their witness to Jesus, all youth are invited to celebrate the gift of their Catholic faith at Diocesan Youth Day on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Wet n Wild Hawaii in Kapolei, Oahu beginning at 9:00 a.m. This year s theme is Rejoice in the Lord always (Phil 4:4). It invites our young people to reflect on the presence of God in their daily lives and renew their faith so that they can share it with others. Even when we are not aware of it, God is present, embracing us with His love, filling us with joy; giving us reason to REJOICE. The theme is fitting as we are preparing to celebrate the Year of Faith. The Road Map planning process unveiled for us the importance of youth and young adult ministry in our parishes, and in our diocese. Diocesan Youth Day is one way for our young people to gather in faith, express their joy, be inspired by God s word, and live it out. View the trailer for Diocesan Youth Day 2012 here: For more information on Diocesan Youth Day, please contact the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at or hawaiicathyyam@rcchawaii.org. 8
