1 Diocese of Honolulu e-newsletter Tuesday of the 10 th Week of Ordinary Time (IV: 75) June 8, 2010 In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ (Jesus) have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit. Let us not be conceited, provoking one another, envious of one another. (Galatians 5: 22-26) [All articles and pictures may be copied and used in parish/school bulletins and newsletters.] In this issue: New Events/Announcements Holy Father s Prayer Intentions for June Corrections: Kauai Faith Formation Conference I Saw it in the enews and Read it in the Herald Meeting Jesus at the Movies June Presentation June 27 Second Collection Holy Father (Peter s Pence) AKUA in Kailua-Kona, June 27 Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center - JUNE 2010 newsletter Previous Events/Announcements Homeless Summit to Focus on the Needs of Homeless Children Priest Personnel Update Hawaii Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services June Events Key Dates for our Priests Key Dates for our Permanent Deacons e-photos Donations for Our Lady of Keaau Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend September

3 I Saw it in the enews and Read it in the Herald From Elina Simon, Executive Assistant to the Vicar General As a new feature in the enews, we will provide a brief summary of important articles appearing in the Hawaii Catholic Herald for parishes to include in their weekly bulletin. Each summary will include a link to the article's web address. This week, we'd like to draw your attention to the article written by Sharon Chiarucci, Director, Office for Parish Resources, titled Diocesan Road Map to the Future - The Numbers paint a picture of a thriving church, in the May 28, 2010 issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald. The story describes the data collected from the General Parish Report (GPR) and the vital information it provides. To read the full article go to px or contact the Herald, or herald@rcchawi.org. Ask about the "Pass It On" Policy which allows you to share an issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald with a friend. Herald staff will send your friend a free copy. If you give your copy away, the Herald will send you another one while supplies last. 4 June 27 Second Collection Holy Father (Peter s Pence) From USCCB Let us make sure that none of God s children ever feels alone. -Pope Benedict XVI In September of 2006, Pope Benedict XVI gave a homily in which he explained that those who are baptized create one family of believers who are never alone. The Peter s Pence Collection unites us in solidarity to the Holy See and its works of charity to those in need. Your generosity allows the Pope to respond to our suffering brothers and sisters with promptness, love, and compassion, so God s people will not feel alone in their time of misfortune. The Peter s Pence Collection derives its name from an ancient custom. In ninth-century England, King Alfred the Great collected money pence or pennies from landowners as financial support for the Pope. Today, the Peter s Pence Collection supports the Pope s philanthropy by giving the Holy Father the means to provide emergency assistance to those in need because of natural disaster, war, oppression, and disease.
