Let the light of Christ s birth shine brightly in your hearts and in every corner of our world and guide us into the way of peace always. He shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God; And they shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace. Hearts of the Nation TV Mass begins January 2, 2011 Submitted by Bishop Larry Silva and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee During the days of Christ s earthly ministry, thousands gathered to hear him teach. Today, we have an opportunity to reach 45 million people at one time in need of the spiritual blessings available through the Holy Mass. Beginning on January 2, 2011, Santa Fe Communications, Inc., based in Milwaukee, will provide the Heart of the Nation TV Mass at 9:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. CT on broadcast, cable, and satellite channels on the ION television network. You can check the channel guide available on Produced in a chapel nestled within the oldest continually operating seminary in the country, the Heart of the Nation TV Mass follows all Roman Catholic liturgical norms. While a TV Mass does not allow viewers to receive Holy Communion, the Heart of the Nation brings viewers into spiritual communion through a deeply inclusive prayer shown on the air for viewers to pray as those in the congregation receive the Eucharist. Parishes are encouraged to: Regularly run bulletin announcements about the TV Mass as a means of reaching out to the homebound, hospitalized, or in hospice care within our communities. Include a link to on your parish website. Week of Prayer for Christian Unity From Charles Buck, Conference Minister United Church of Christ, Hawaii Conference Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, For over a hundred years, Christians have observed the days between January 18 and 25 as the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This annual observance is a call for us to pray with Jesus for the unity of all God s people that they all may be one (John 17:21). Here in Hawaii, one of the important and meaningful ways that we observe the Week of Prayer for Christian United is our annual ecumenical worship. The worship service will take place on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, beginning at 6:30 pm, at historic Kawaiahao Church (957 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu). Bishop Larry Silva will be in attendance. For more general information about the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, including ideas for personal and corporate observance, please visit the website of the Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute: 3

Additionally, St. John s Hui O Laulima outreach ministry financed Hormel Hams for every family and a dozen $15 certificates for Molokai Drug Store that served as alternative gifts for teens. Families who came to shop at the Toyland were from every part of the island, most unemployed or experiencing a cut in hours/pay and some kupuna raising grandchildren while parent(s) live and work on neighbor islands to earn a living and provide financial care. Extra toys and canned hams will be shared with women and children in shelter for domestic violence, participating families in the Healthy Start program and other families as needs arise.
