Dobbins Jr., in a blessing and prayer of protection. VIRTUS TRAINING Our Lady of Grace is hosting a Virtus training session on June 5th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Virtus training is a program that seeks to increase awareness of issues surrounding child sexual abuse and to provide information on ways to prevent child sexual assaults. If, as a volunteer you have contact with minors, you are asked by the Diocese to be trained. Additionally, anyone interested, whether volunteer or staff is welcome to join us. Please plan to attend. LIFE BOTTLES FOR BABIES Don t forget to pick up a baby bottle to help the Oakes Family Care Center in Brunswick which provides services that support and strengthen family life and values. Baby bottles can be found in the church vestibule. Each family is asked to fill a bottle with loose change, bills, and/or checks. Please return the bottles to church by Father s Day, June 18th. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Sign up now for Vacation Bible School. June from 9-12 noon. All children who are in preschool (age 4) - 5th grade are invited to participate in our Outer Space themed Camp. Crafts, songs, games, snacks and Bible lessons to enjoy with friends. Registration forms are in the back of the church and are due by June 9th. If any parishioner would like to send their child/ children to Vacation Bible School but are hindered by the cost, please call the church office. One of our parishioners has graciously donated several scholarships. DID YOU KNOW? If you look at services that could only be provided to pregnant women at Planned Parenthood in 2013, abortions at Planned Parenthood outnumbered adoption referrals 174 to 1. This typical ratio shows what business Planned Parenthood is really in. AKRON ZOO Join us for OLOG Family Day at Akron Zoo on Saturday, July 15 from 10 am to 5 pm. Cost of $9 per person (under 2 free) includes admission, parking and reserved picnic area. You can bring your own picnic lunch or purchase food from the vendors at the zoo. There will be a special animal encounter for OLOG at 1 pm presented by the Akron Zoo Education Department. Come and enjoy all of the wildlife and attractions. In our families, let s take a tip from today s Gospel and forgive our imperfections. Then we will experience the peace that Jesus promises in today s reading. Please continue to pray for young people to answer the call to religious vocations. 50TH WEDDING CELEBRATION Couples celebrating 50 years of marriage or longer are invited to attend the 50th Wedding Anniversary Mass held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland, on Sunday, July 30 at 2:30 pm. HUNGER RELIEF GOLF OUTING Whether you're an avid golfer or just enjoy the great outdoors, join us for the Annual Outdrive Hunger Golf Outing on Friday, July 21st from 8 am 4:30 pm at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, 9445 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville. The event will raise money to feed the 13,000 people who turn to our hunger centers for nourishment each month. Tickets are $125 (individual) and $500 (foursome). Little is known about his youth except that he was baptized around the age of 18. He served as a teacher, and possibly deacon, under four bishops. Ephrem lived through some of the most tumultuous times in the early Church. Heresies, especially Arianism, were rampant and the Church faced persecution. He began to write hymns in order to counteract the heresies. The originality, imagery, and skill of his hymns captured the hearts of the Christians so well, that Ephrem is given credit for awakening the Church to the importance of music and poetry in spreading and fortifying the faith. In his lifetime, he may have written as many as three million lines, and 400 of his hymns still survive. His hymnography earned him the title Harp of the Spirit. Ephrem s home of Nibisis was in physical as well as spiritual danger. It was besieged three time. He fled the city in 363 eventually settling as a solitary ascetic on Mount Edessa. There he lived an ascetic, celibate life for his last years. When a famine hit Edessa in 372, Ephrem assisted priests in providing food and other aid to the poor, as well as preaching the Gospel. Ephrem died shortly thereafter at an advanced age. His feast day is June 9. In recognition of St. Ephrem s accomplishment of spreading the faith through song, he was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1920.
