COME & SEE LADIES OF THE PARISH Join the Women of Hope for their 16th year of ministry in their study of two great books on Scripture and our Catholic Faith: Unleashing the Power of Scripture by Mark Hart and All In Why Belonging to the Catholic Church Matters by Pat Gohn. It is most appropriate to provide children with the grace of the Sacrament of Baptism and to welcome them into the community of faith within six months of birth. Persistence is a virtue of parenting. We must persist in teaching our children, advocating for them, being models for them and loving them. Parenting is a lifetime career. The Holy Souls have their pains eased by suffrages. BENEFITS OF SAYING THE ROSARY 1. It gradually gives us a perfect knowledge of Jesus Christ. 2. It purifies our souls, washing away sin. 3. It gives us victory over all our enemies. 4. It makes it easy for us to practice virtue. 5. It sets us on fire with love for Our Lord. 6. It enriches us with graces and merits. 7. It supplies us with what is needed to pay all our debts to God and to our fellow men. 8. Finally it obtains all kinds of graces for us from Almighty God ROSARY INDULGENCE A plenary indulgence is granted, if the rosary is recited in a church or public oratory or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances. The gaining of the plenary indulgence is regulated by the following norms: 1. The recitation of a third part only of the rosary suffices; but the five decades must be recited continuously. 2. The vocal recitation must be accompanied by pious meditation on the Mysteries. In public recitation the Mysteries must be announced in the manner customary in the place; for private recitation, however, it suffices if the recitation is accompanied by meditation on the Mysteries. To obtain the indulgence the usual conditions apply: receiving Holy Communion, praying for the intention of our Holy Father, and going to confession eight days before or after. The holy rosary is the storehouse of countless blessing. Chipgus & Sylvia Gillis 11 am Frank Renko / Bahr Family SUNDAY, AUGUST 27 OUR FRIENDS THE SAINTS Saint Joseph Calasanz Joseph was born on September 11, 1556 to a wealthy family in Spain. He obtained degrees in canon law and theology. His father wanted Joseph to become a soldier and to marry but after recovering from a life threatening illness, he resolved to become a priest. Joseph was ordained in He was well respected for his wisdom and administrative expertise. As a tutor in Rome, he ministered to people suffering from the plague and floods. He was deeply concerned with the need for education of poor children. Joseph and two fellow priests soon opened a small, free school for poor children. Pope Clement VIII, and Pope Paul V, contributed toward this work. Joseph was soon supervising several teachers and hundreds of students. In 1621 the community was recognized as a religious order known as the Piarists. The community encountered many obstacles. In his old age, Joseph suffered through seeing his Order torn apart. A papal commission acquitted Joseph of all accusations. Joseph died August 25, Eight years later the Piarists were restored as a religious order, continuing their good work today. In 1948, Pope Pius XII declared Joseph the patron saint of Catholic schools. Among those educated in Piarist schools were: Francisco Goya, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Gregor Mendel and Victor Hugo.
