2 Page 2 PARISH NEWS Jubilee Year of Mercy May 29, 2016 Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the Lectionary's Year of Luke presents a Gospel in which Jesus, who has welcomed, taught, healed, and shown God's mercy to the multitude, refuses the Twelve's demand to dismiss the crowd before him. Instead, he says, "Give them some food yourselves" (Luke 9:13). In Jesus' hands, what little the Twelve has feeds five thousand ("men," and probably as many women and children), leaving twelve baskets so the Twelve can continue Jesus' ministry of mercy. Pope Francis has asked how we celebrate and live the Eucharist. Do we keep it to ourselves? Or do we "commune" not only with Jesus but with the multitude whom Jesus has given us to cherish? Entrusted to Jesus and shared with others, our limited resources can go a long way. Recognizing Jesus in the Eucharist demands that we recognize Jesus also in the hungry crowd. Leonor Castillo will be honored next Sunday, June 5 with a reception in, having recently announced her well-deserved retirement. She has served Corpus Christi Church and School for the past 35 years. Her career began in 1981 at Corpus Christi School teaching Spanish classes. In 1994, Leonor was invited to serve as the Director of Hispanic Ministry for our parish, developing a strong foundation in meeting the needs of the parishioners through spiritual development, sacramental preparation for adults and children, faith formation through a vibrant religious education program, youth group, development of new ministries, and Eucharistic celebrations. Leonor and her husband, Ed, worked in tandem to provide support and education far beyond the walls of the church. Citizenship classes were offered and Ed provided guidance to young people and their families in applying for college, job applications and much more. All members of the parish are cordially invited to share in this opportunity to express our gratitude to Leonor and Ed. Please join us in this celebration! Corpus Christi Parish is pleased to share the news that our parishioner,, Jhena Patriarca, a member of the Incarnate Word Academy Graduating Class of 2016, was honored with the Servant of the Word Award, a prestigious award given to one senior student. Leonor Castillo con motivo de su jubilación del Ministerio Hispano en Corpus Christi. Ella ha servido en la Iglesia y en la Escuela de Corpus Christi durante los 35 años. Empezó trabajando con la Escuela en el año 1981, dando clases de español. En el año 1994, Leonor estaba invitado a servir como Directora del Ministerio Hispano para la parroquia, creando un programa para satisfacer las necesidades de los parroquianos por medio del desarrollo espiritual, preparación sacramental para niños y adultos, formación en la fe en las clases del catecismo, grupo de jóvenes, desarrollo de nuevos ministerios, y celebraciones Eucarísticas. Leonor y su esposo, Ed, trabajaron juntos para dar ayuda y educación más allá de la Iglesia también. Ofrecieron clases de ciudadanía y Ed dio orientación por muchos años a muchos jóvenes y sus familias en la aplicación para la universidad, solicitudes de empleo, y mucho más.
