2 Page 2 PARISH NEWS Spiritual Exercise for Advent During this season of waiting and expectation, take a little extra time to wait with God. Consider coming to Mass early during the four Sundays of Advent. The choir at the 11:00am Sunday Mass will be offering an Anthem before Mass begins on each of the four Sundays of Advent. At the Saturday 5:00pm and Sunday 9:00am Advent Masses, instrumental music will be offered before the Mass. At the 1:30pm Mass we will continue to pray the Rosary before Mass begins. Come early to Mass on the four weekends of Advent and prepare your hearts for the great Christmas celebrations! A Note of Gratitude from the Council of Catholic Women THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Last week we delivered 220 Christmas gift laden shoeboxes to the Seafarers' Center at the Port of Houston! What a success! It is because of your dedication and commitment, that we were able to make this project such a successful one. BLESSED SACRAMENT CONGREGATION SUPERIOR GENERAL AND GENERAL CONSULTOR VISIT HOUSTON This weekend we welcome the religious leaders of the Blessed Sacrament Community Welcome, Father Eugênio and Father Binh! The religious and associates of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in the United States welcome Father Eugênio Barbosa Martins, Superior General, and Father Joseph Vu Quoc Binh, General Consultor, for an official visit November 1 26, This is Father Eugênio s first trip to our country. He was born in Araguari, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on September 5, He professed first vows on January 25, 1984, and was ordained a priest on January 24, He served in various ministries in the Province of Santa Cruz (Brazil), including Provincial Superior from 2002 to 2010, and was chosen the 14th successor to Saint Peter Julian Eymard as Superior General on May 16, He is fluent in several languages and brings a wealth of experience to his duties in leadership and animation of the Congregation. Father Joseph has served as a General Consultor for three years and is convener of the International Commission on Mission. He was born in Vietnam on November 11, 1974, professed first vows on August 2, 2001, and was ordained to the priesthood on February 11, He attended our Provincial Chapter in November 2014, representing Father General and the General Council. The Rule of Life of the Congregation says in number 73: The Superior General is the highest authority in the Institute after the General Chapter and is president of the General Council. He is elected by the General Chapter for a term of six years.the Superior General exercises his authority at the service of the Congregation s unity and its mission in the world in conformity with the norms of the Rule of Life. In union with his council, he animates and coordinates the life and mission of the Institute. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings. The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King.
