Young at Hearts All seniors and those Young at Heart are invited to join us for lunch following the First Friday noon Mass on March 2nd. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and March birthdays. If you wish, you may bring a dessert to share or a door prize. For more information call Betty- Anne Dye, Come join Us! Relay for Life is the signature event for the American Cancer Society. This one night celebration is in honor of all those who have won their fight against cancer, those who are still battling, and those who have finished the race. St. Joseph Parish has had a team for many years and we are once again recruiting. PARISH NEWS Decorating for Lent Arts and Environment will be decorating the Chapel and Parish Center Altar at various times throughout Lent. If you would like to help, please contact Lin Morgan at March 24 at 3:00 PMdecorate for Palm Sunday March 25, after 6:00 PMdecorate for Holy Week March 31, at Noondecorate for Easter Food Drive St. Joseph Charities annual Lenten Food Drive will take place the first 2 weekends in March. Empty bags with a suggested food list will be distributed after all Masses on March 3rd & 4th. Filled bags are to be returned the following weekend, March 10/11. This annual Food Drive supports the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Condolence Letters As many of you may know, Fr. The SJS Athletic Department is looking for assistant coaches for its boys and girls middle school soccer teams. A background in soccer with coaching experience is preferred, but not required. The season runs February-April and there is a coaching stipend. Background check and training are required. St. Joe s Jog and Fun Run On March 3, 2018, St. Joseph Catholic Parish School will host our 19th annual St. Joe's Jog and Fun Run at Sandy Creek Park. The 5k race is part of the Georgia Race Series and a wonderful family event. All are welcome to participate in a fun morning complete with prizes and food cooked by our local Knights of Columbus. Check your bulletin for how to sign up! We are also looking for race sponsors. This is a great way to get your local business advertised to the larger community. 7 FOCUS ON FAITH During Lent, there is, perhaps, no devotion more popular than the Stations of the Cross. This devotion finds its roots with the Franciscans who helped rebuild the sites of the Holy Land following destruction during the medieval crusades. Originally appealing to pilgrims in Jerusalem who journeyed along Christ s way to Calvary, the enduring relevance of the Stations of the Cross in the Christian life caused the devotion to spread. Today, it s a rare parish church or complex that does not contain the Stations of the Cross. As we meditate on Christ s passion and death, we are given the opportunity to join our sufferings to Christ. Christ s passion is the model of what true love is all about. The Stations of the Cross provide the opportunity to meditate on the self-sacrificial foundation of love that Christ reveals to us. We hold the Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent at 7:30 PM in English and at 8:00 PM in Spanish. Come join us in this special devotion!
