For Our Parishioners Second Collections: This Week: Parish Emergency Fund SENT FORTH IN LOVE The love of God did not guarantee that when Christ was sent into the world it would be to a life free from suffering. In the same way, Christ sends us as disciples to know suffering and joy. As the Son is loved by the Father and yet is sent to suffer, so are those loved by the risen Christ sent into the world to suffer. It is not our suffering that God desires, however, but the faithfulness to God that will not turn back, even when faced with the suffering that will come with such faithfulness. INSIDE THE READINGS The author of the Acts of the Apostles presents a portrait of the honeymoon period following the community s encounter with the resurrected Jesus. The community of believers was of one heart and mind (4:32). The initial experience of Resurrectionreordered priorities imbued the believers with power and showered them with great favor. This state of general bliss will shortly dissipate (see the story of Ananias and Sapphira, 5:1 12). Nonetheless, the reading is an example of how the Resurrection community is meant to live. The second reading is taken from First John, an early second-century epistle attributed to the evangelist of the fourth Gospel but more likely written by a member of the Johannine community. Generally, the letter attempts to correct a growing misunderstanding that Jesus could not be the Christ, the son of God, and be in the flesh. The heresies called Gnosticism and Docetism denied that Jesus could be both divine and human, because they saw matter as essentially evil and created by a lesser deity. First John sets out clearly what true believers hold: that Jesus is the Christ, is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the Father loves also the one begotten by him (5:1). In the Gospel, Thomas is the opposite of those who thought Jesus humanity only an appearance. He knew the earthly Jesus, and so cannot believe that this human being has been raised from the dead. In fairness to the disciples and particularly to Thomas, resurrection from the dead, though a sign of the coming of the Messiah, had never occurred. Lazarus had been brought back from the dead (11:44), but he would die again. Thomas incredulity is reasonable. So too is his utter astonishment when the resurrected Jesus appears before him: My Lord and my God. RESPONDING IN PRAYER Lord Jesus, your love sends us into the world just as the Father sent you. Give us confidence that, in whatever we face, your love will never abandon us.

PRIME TIMERS: A fellowship group of men and women who have the time and desire to come together on weekdays for social and service events. 4 NURSES CORNER April, 2017 May our Risen Lord bless your days with peace and joy! During this Easter Season, we should give special thanks to the Lord for giving us these great vessels of life, our bodies. We have an obligation to treat them as the greatest of gifts from the Lord. April is Cancer Control Month. Everyone has lost someone close to them from this dreaded disease. More and more, it is evident that we can beat back our cancer risk by simply changing our diets to include more fiber and less animal fat, by getting a bit of exercise, and of course, by quitting smoking. in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37) 2019 Mass Book The 2019 Mass book is now open for anyone who wishes to schedule a mass for a special intention or a deceased friend or family member. Mass Intentions If you have requested a Mass Intention and you and your family would like to bring up the gifts of bread and wine at Offertory time, please check in with one of the ushers when you arrive at church. They will do their best to be sure you are able to participate in this special way at the mass for your loved one(s). The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to each sacrament. They bear fruit in those who receive them with the required dispositions. Any adult wishing to learn more about the Sacraments and be in communion with our Catholic Church is invited to call our office, learn more about, and participate in our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program. Baptism This Sacrament of initiation and welcome into our faithcommunity may be celebrated during a weekend mass or at 1:00 P.M. on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. A Baptism class is held on the 3rd Sunday of every other month at 1:00 P.M. in the Parish Center and is attended prior to the baptism of your first child. You may attend before your child is born, and call the office to register. Eucharist Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. John 6:35 Thus in the Eucharistic Liturgy we are joined with Christ on the altar of the cross and at the table of the upper room. The Sacrament can be received daily at Mass or delivered to the homebound upon request. Confirmation In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. Penance The Sacrament of Penance is an experience of the gift of God s boundless mercy. Time for confession is offered every Saturday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 P.M. in our Church, Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at St. Joseph s in Brookfield, and on Thursday evenings from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at Sacred Heart in Danbury. Anointing of the Sick Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul. If you would like to have one of our priests or deacons visit you, a relative, or a friend in the hospital, rehabilitation facility, or at home, please call the parish office. Holy Matrimony The Marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. It is also a liturgical act and Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy. Couples are encouraged to make arrangements at least 6 months prior to the wedding. Attendance at the Diocesan Marriage Preparation Program or Engaged Encounter is mandatory. Please call the office for an appointment to begin planning. Holy Orders Ordination to the priesthood is always a call and a gift from God. Those who seek priesthood respond generously to God s call using the words of the prophet, here I am, send me (Is 6:8).
