2 SUNDAY OF MEATFARE February 23, 2014 TROPAR: By your cross you shattered death, and to the thief you opened paradise. Into joy you turned the wailing of the myrrh-bearing women. You commanded the apostles to preach that you are risen. O Christ, our God, upon the world you bestow great mercy. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Now and ever and forever. Amen. KONDAK: All creation will tremble, when you come to earth in glory, O God. A river of fire will flow past your judgment throne. The books will be opened and secrets will be revealed. Deliver me, then, from the unquenchable fires, and count me worthy to stand at your right, O most righteous judge. PROKIMEN: Great is the Lord, and great is his strength, and there is no limit to his understanding. Verse: Praise the Lord, for psalmody is a good thing. Let praise be sweetly sung to our God. A reading from St. Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians (8:8-9:2) Brethren, now food does not bring us closer to God. We suffer no loss through failing to eat, and we gain no favor by eating. Take care, however, lest in exercising your right, you become an occasion of sin to the weak. If someone sees you, with your "knowledge," reclining at the table in the temple of an idol, may not his conscience in its weak state be influenced to the point that he eats the idol offering? Because of your "knowledge" the weak one perishes, that brother for whom Christ died. When you sin thus against your brothers and wound their weak consciences, you are sinning against Christ. Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin I will never eat meat again, so that I may not be an occasion of sin to him. Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? And are you not my work in the Lord? Although I may not be an apostle for others, I certainly am one for You. You are the very seal of my apostolate in the Lord.

GOSPEL Matthew 25:31-46 The Lord said: "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' The Liturgy of the Pre-sanctified Gifts will be held at 9:30AM on Fridays during Great Lent, STARTING March 21, due to the Shroud of Turin in Plymouth. 5 REPLICA OF THE SHROUD OF TURIN Father Popyk and the committee are hard at work getting everything ready for the display of the replica of the Shroud of Turin at SS Peter & Paul UCC in Plymouth. We need volunteers to sign up to be present in the church during the times the church is open. There is a list at the back of the church. Please commit to at least an hour to spend time in meditation and prayer for this unique spiritual experience. Notice that there are 14 pages: one for each day that the church will be open. The list also includes the times of scheduled services. We hope that you can visit many times during the two weeks. The display of the Shroud replica is not a fundraiser and is a very costly undertaking. If you would like to make a donation towards this effort, please either contact Father or just drop an envelope in the collection basket and mark Shroud Replication Donation on it. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 27 at 3:00pm at the Ss. Peter & Paul Church Hall. Note the addition to the schedule of a special presentation by Russ Breault, an international expert and President of the Turin Education Project Inc. His talk will be at 6:00 PM on Friday March 14 th at SS Peter & Paul. Transfiguration will coordinate the coffee hour to follow the opening service on Sunday March 2 nd. (2:00 PM). 6 CHURCH NEWS. SYMPATHY: Please remember in your prayers the soul of Anna Kulmatiski who fell asleep in the Lord. May Our Lord grant her rest in the bosom of Abraham, may she be numbered among the saints and may her memory be eternal. Funeral will be served at Grontkowski Funeral Home (Nanticoke). MYASOPUSNA: IT S THIS SUNDAY! This Sunday is our Parish s Annual Myasopusna Festival. Dinner tickets the day of the dinner are $15, with an advanced ticket price of $12. Tickets can be purchased by calling or MYASOPUSNA MEMORIAL: It is with great sadness this year that we move forward with our Myasopusna Dinner without the company of our local psanky artist, Mr. Frank Kobela. May His Memory Be Eternal. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The next meeting of the Parish Council is Tuesday, April 8 at 6:00PM. UKRAINE REVOLUTION: Please remember to pray for the 96 people who were killed and 2,040 people who were violently injured in the revolution in Ukraine. Please pray the rosary for peace and comfort to their families of the injured and deceased, and for all Ukrainians who are enduring turmoil and violence in their country.
