Please remain seated in your pews until a council member indicates your row should go forward. If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. In receiving Communion, you should place the cloth under your chin, recite your CHRISTIAN NAME, and wipe your mouth after receiving. Women, please remove your lipstick prior to receiving Communion. 9 NORTH TEXAS ORTHODOX MISSIONS (NTOM) SAYS A BIG THANK YOU TO HOLY TRINITY PARISHIONERS Visit by Dr. Jeffrey and Caryn Macdonald & their children, Alexander, Anna, Elizabeth, Andrew & Katherine on Sunday, September 6 Many thanks to those who supported the Macdonald Family, OCMC missionaries to Albania! Dr. Jeffrey and Caryn teach at the Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Theological Seminary in Shen Vlash, in Durres. Jeffrey is teaching classes in Church History and Patristics, the study of the writings of the Church Fathers. Caryn is teaching two classes of English. Alexander and Anna have stayed in Dallas and often attend Holy Trinity. The other children are home schooled in Durres. To continue their work they need pledges of monthly support to fund the upcoming two years. Pledges can be designated toward our work through the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC) either on the website or by calling OCMC. 10 When you suffer, do you wonder if God has forgotten you? Would you like to know what in your life is pleasing to God? At times every Christian feels anxious or insecure about life--and about faith. The Thessalonians asked many of the questions we ask today, and Paul's letters helped them find assurance. In these studies on 1 & 2 Thessalonians, we will attempt to show, through the words of the Holy Fathers, how Paul's answers can help us find comfort. Paul s letters to the Thessalonica are not words of disinterested philosophy or cold catechetical teaching. They are words of fire, burning with the love of God and his people. These early epistles have endured through the centuries to burn in our hearts as well. Please join us every Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m. in the Boardroom of the Community Center, for Adult Bible Study. We look forward to the fellowship and journey towards better understanding His message for each of us. 10

11 Boy & Girl Scouts of America In November, the Parish will recognize all Boy Scouts that have reached the rank of Eagle Scout and Girl Scouts that have received the Gold Award. The meeting should last about thirty minutes and parents are required to attend the first meeting. 24 Are We Obedient? Obedience is the chief among the initiatory virtues, for first it displaces presumption and then it engenders humility within us. Thus, it becomes, for those willing to embrace it, a door leading to the love of God. St. Diadochos of Phokiti The dictionary defines obedience as the act of dutiful or submissive behavior with respect to another person. But in our Orthodox Christian perspective, obedience means to submit to the Will of God. As parents and grandparents we strive to raise our children to be obedient and respectful. The two words go hand-in-hand. Not heartless, routine obedience that is deprived of feeling, but obedience based on duty, respect and love. Their behavior will often emulate ours. While we can demand obedience, that doesn t mean it will follow. But if they see us as obedient and respectful, they are more likely to follow suit. As Orthodox Christians, how is obedience to His Will manifested? Some of the manifestations are how we treat others; how we respond to the needs of others; how we express our love to God; how we keep His commandments; and how we labor and care for His Church. If we are to carry on His work, our Church requires the financial resources to do so. This is a reality. The Divine Liturgy this morning is being celebrated in our beautiful church. It is cool and comfortable. It is conducive to our desire to praise and thank Him for all His blessings. Let us show our appreciation and obedience by our Stewardship of time, talent and treasure.
