2 COMMUNION ETIQUETTE If you are either baptized and or confirmed as an Orthodox Christian and have spiritually prepared to receive Holy Communion, please come up from the middle aisle of the Church with reverence and humility, row by row, in a QUIET and ORDERLY fashion, and depart as directed. Please remain seated in your pews until a council member indicates your row should go forward. If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. In receiving Communion, you should place the cloth under your chin, recite your CHRISTIAN NAME, and wipe your mouth after receiving. Women, please remove your lipstick prior to receiving Communion. 4 Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 7:26-28; 8:1-2 Brethren, it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself. Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever. Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent which is set up not by man but by the Lord. Christina s bio: Christina Andresen is married to the wonderful Daniel Andresen, and they are learning, by God's grace, how to raise two lovely daughters, Ksenia and Juliana. Christina also serves as the Manager of Chapter Relations for Orthodox Christian Fellowship, the pan-orthodox campus ministry organization of the Orthodox Church in North America. She received her Master of Divinity from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in 2013 and has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy with a minor in Dance from Texas A&M University. In addition to her work with OCF, Christina teaches 11th-12th grade Catechetical School, serves as the Recording Secretary for St. Barbara's Philoptochos, and does freelance writing and editing for other national Orthodox ministries. 17 MISSION BLANKETS UPDATE Thanks to many generous givers, three boxes of blankets for children have now been sent to Thessaloniki. It is the fourth shipment to Greece, which is experiencing a nationwide increase in orphans. Many of the homeless are arriving from other countries, adding to the existing social & economic problems. As the donations come in, we will continue to pack and ship them to these orphanages. Any up-to-date contact information for a children's home there is most welcomed. We express heartfelt gratitude to every person who has contributed to this outreach by: purchasing blankets, sewing, knitting, prayers, shipping, making a custom donations box for the church hall, handmade crosses and funds for transport. We greatly appreciate the member who personally delivered and paid to send boxes going to one of the orphanages. And special thanks to the church couple who gave a substantial donation, covering the cost of buying fabric for blankets and their shipment to two of the children's homes. Fr. Peter prays over every group of blankets before they leave. We are still in process of boxing the 2nd batch, this one headed for Volos. Tips and Resources will be available soon! Introduced in 1983, the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival provides Greek Orthodox teenagers the opportunity to write and talk about their faith. 20 Dear Fellow Parishioners, I pray that all is well in your household as we move into November. Thanksgiving and the Christmas holiday season are just around the corner. We are indeed approaching the end of 2016! So far this year our total pledge commitments have increased to over $916,000. This represents a nice increase over last year. Thank you to all who have made their 2016 commitments! Also, a special thank you to all who have participated in our Close the Gap II program by pledging at least an additional $75.00 to their annual 2016 stewardship commitment. If you haven t had the chance to help us close the gap, please do so this month. As of the end of October, we have fulfilled about 73% of our pledges (about the same as this point last year). However, we are actually 87% of the way through the 2016 calendar year. Although we are approaching a busy part of the year, let s not forget to fulfill our pledges to completion as we approach the year s end. Last year we found ourselves in a similar short-fall situation, and many reminder phone calls had to be made to resolve this. Please help us avoid this extra effort by completing your pledge this month, if possible. Your 100% fulfillment of your pledge is indeed essential to the well-being of our Holy Trinity community. The 2017 Stewardship cards will be appearing soon. Please take a few prayerful minutes this month to consider your pledge for As you consider your pledge, remember our community goal is to achieve a 100% stewardship-funded budget. Please do your part, or more, to help us realize our goal for next year. As we remember our many blessings at Thanksgiving, let us remember to give back to Him who has blessed us.
