Epistle Reading St. Paul's Letter to Titus 3:8-15 TITUS, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned. When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful. All who are with me send greeting to you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen. English Reader: Thanasi Christ Gospel Reading Luke 8:5-15 The Lord said this parable: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold." And when his disciples asked him what this parable meant, he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no 4

root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience." As he said these things, he cried out "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." 10 A Message from the Parish Council As we ve all surely noticed, with families back from summer vacation and catechetical school back in session, attendance at Divine Liturgy has increased significantly. Gone are the light crowds of summertime and our beautiful church is once again full on Sundays. With the larger crowds, though, come challenges with some aspects of our services in particular, with the reception of Holy Communion. The parish council is there to make sure that everyone who wishes to partake of Communion can do so, coming forward in a reverent, orderly fashion. Our goal is to ensure the process takes place efficiently and, more importantly, with the solemnity appropriate to this beautiful sacrament. We therefore humbly ask for your cooperation in this effort by following a couple simple guidelines: Please remain seated in your pews until a council member indicates your row should go forward. If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. Please note that these guidelines are for Sunday school students and teachers also. Our experience has shown us that the best way to get everyone to class promptly is for the whole process to be conducted in an efficient and orderly manner. Finally, we understand there will often need to be accommodations made, typically for our elderly parishioners, or for others who may have trouble standing in line. Please don t hesitate to ask a parish council member for assistance in these circumstances. As always, if you have any questions or suggestions for how we can better serve the parish, please feel free to contact any member of the Parish Council. You can also us with your thoughts at pcfeedback@holytrinity.info. In Christ s service, Your 2014 Parish Council 10

Please join the Holy Trinity Adult Bible Study each Thursday at 10:45 a.m. in the Board Room of the Arthur L. Sarris Community Center. We will begin this year with a study of 2 Corinthians. Do you allow your weaknesses to rule over you? Do you have hardships that overwhelm you? Do you beg God to remove obstacles from your life? The apostle Paul delighted in his weaknesses, welcomed hardship as a friend and thanked God for obstacles that offered opportunities to experience God's power. Was he crazy? In everything Paul teaches you to rely, as he did, on God's great promise: "My grace is sufficient for you." Please join us as we study 2 Corinthians! The Holy Trinity Bookstore Welcomes You! We are excited about the new books for the Fall & Winter season that we have ordered, and the new hand-made Byzantine Jewelry from Gallery Byzantium. We have new icons and gift selections for your home and family. This month we are highlighting two books titled The Orthodox Church by Timothy Ware and The Heavenly Banquet by Father Emmanuel Hatzidakis, understanding the Divine Liturgy. The staff is ready to help you with all of your needs, so do come and see the prayer books, Incense burners, charcoal, icons, Christmas items and much, much more! Your Bookstore Team: Mary Zotos, Betty Boyd & Alin Voicu Open Sundays after Divine Liturgy until 12:30 p.m. & Wednesdays, 1-3 p.m. 11

Thank You! The 58 th Annual Greek Food Festival of Dallas was a tremendous success. For three days, we shared with Dallas our Faith, Food, and Culture. All of the visitors got an opportunity to Live Greek and did they ever! The food and atmosphere this year was simply wonderful. We were blessed with wonderful weather and a very strong turn out. The top of this letter starts with a Thank You. I want to take a moment and thank each and every one of you who volunteered and supported the festival. Going in the danger zone I will mention a few individuals specifically. For those that I fail to mention, I apologize. Father Chris, as always, was very supportive throughout the planning process. The Festival Committee deserves a standing ovation for their dedication. The Festival Committee begins planning in December and meets throughout the year. Mark and Amelia Fritz were very helpful and provided the rookie chairman much needed guidance. Our Cookie Mavens, Eleni Papathanasiou, Angie Austin and Toni Davrados, helped prepare endless pans of cookies, and they sold every one by the way! With John Lymberopoulos s leadership, the kitchen hummed. Jane Stathas for sure lived up to her title of Happiness Manager! Charles Pappas created a great guidebook and Helen Stephens sold a lot of raffle tickets. Thanks to Elaine and her crew for many hours selling advance tickets. The Booth Leaders ensured that each booth was ready to take care of our guests. Our wonderful church staff was there every step of the way. As always Torye Morris rose to the occasion. Again, thank you to all those who worked so hard!!! Also, a thank you to our sponsors for their kind generosity and commitment to the Church. When families get together there are laughs, tears, hugs, and a little arguing. we, as a church family, experienced a little of all of those. At the end of the day, we all came together in the service of our church. Be inspired by the hard work and love that you have for Holy Trinity. I saw 90 + year old men stand at stoves for days. I watched women show up to every baking session without complaint. People came in quietly after a day of work to make pans and pans 12

of pastitsio, and dozens of children showed up to dance practice Sunday after Sunday. Watching our Holy Trinity kids dance with pride is something to see, and we are all proud of them. There are many details to finalize regarding the financial success of the festival. Once all of the accounting is done, a presentation will be made to the Parish Council. After that presentation, we will share figures at the November General Assembly. I close as I opened this letter with a simple: Thank You.
