2 COMMUNION ETIQUETTE If you are either baptized and or confirmed as an Orthodox Christian and have spiritually prepared to receive Holy Communion, please come up from the middle aisle of the Church with reverence and humility, row by row, in a QUIET and ORDERLY fashion, and depart as directed. Please remain seated in your pews until a council member indicates your row should go forward. If you are standing in the back of the nave, please wait until all seated parishioners have gone forward and a council member indicates you should go ahead. In receiving Communion, you should place the cloth under your chin, recite your CHRISTIAN NAME, and wipe your mouth after receiving. Women, please remove your lipstick prior to receiving Communion. 10 In Celebration of Holy Trinity's 100th Anniversary! Dinner & Iconography Tour S.A.L.T. (Young Adult Professionals Group) Bring a Friend! What? A Fast-friendly dinner from Platia followed by a tour in the Sanctuary of the beautiful new iconography in our Church, led by Father Peter. The annual basketball tournament brings together GOYANS and family members from throughout the Metropolis of Denver. It is the largest gathering of any kind in the Metropolis and offers an atmosphere of Christian fellowship and friendly competition. 13 MISSION BLANKETS We are currently communicating with Fr. Alaniz in Anjara, Jordan about the logistics of sending our 32 blankets to the children of the Mother of Hope Orphanage where he is the director. As soon as the details have been arranged we will ship them. He has sent his blessings and appreciation in advance to all of you who have contributed to this effort, as well as our entire church. He is expressing great happiness in anticipation of receiving these "presents" for the children. Thank all of you who have given of your time, talent and treasure toward the orphans in Jordan. Now, while we start thinking about Christmas shopping, let's consider adding an orphan to our list. In spring next year we plan to reach out to a brand new children's home being started in Sierra Leone, West Africa. This is being done by another Orthodox priest in response to the aftermath of the Ebola crisis. It will be our 10th shipment, and we thank God for blessing us so that we in turn, can bless these precious children. 16 32.766N, W* A Vacant Lot Harry Yianitsas, 2015 Stewardship Chairman This looks like a good place, said one man to another in their native language. How much will it cost? said the others. Can we afford it? questioned some. It might be manageable. How long till we move in? echoed many within this unofficial community of barely middle-income immigrants. They carefully looked over this tiny vacant lot at the corner of Sanger Avenue and Riggs Street about a mile north of the Trinity River in current day South Dallas. Many of them surveyed the lot, while others surveyed the future. About one hundred years ago, this group of forerunners decided to commit themselves to build a church building. They also committed to the sacrifice it would take to sustain their community through two post-war periods, the Great Depression, and other hardships and challenges that would come their way. They donated their time, talent, and treasure to initiate the hundred year history of our Holy Trinity community. They had guts, some would say. They were stubbornly determined Greeks, others might think. But they all shared a common trait. Passion. Passion for their faith. Passion for their culture. Passion for the belief that the spiritual future of their children was worth the sacrifice of their barely comfortable existence. So, we now know where our first sanctuary was geographically located*. However, it started before the dirt. Before they found the vacant lot at the corner of Sanger and Riggs, this group had found in their hearts the love for their faith and culture. Nowadays, we sometimes take for granted that our beautiful current day facility began from great sacrifice. We just expect that somebody will continue to support this community so that we can continue to use it. But it takes more than somebody to support this community. It takes you. It takes your sacrifice of time, talent, and treasure. To realize why, just imagine if your drove up to church next Sunday, and all you found was the vacant lot. Could you build this community from scratch? Would you make the sacrifices others made to get us here? What commitment would you make to a vacant lot?
