A sincere thank you goes out to all who have responded to the Diocesan Lenten Appeal. Parish To date, the total is 117 gifts with pledges and gifts is $38,977 with 56% of our parish responding. That means we exceeded our diocesan target by $1, and need $15, to reach our parish goal of $54, St. Mary Parish To date, the total is 147 gifts with pledges and gifts is $38,609 with 70% of our parish responding. That means we exceeded our diocesan target by $2,754 and need $17,246 to reach our parish goal of $55,855. If you haven t yet made your commitment, please consider making it this week. Sacramental Preparation - First Communion The final sacramental preparation session will be a retreat for the candidates only on Saturday, April 21, from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM in St. Mary Religion Center. Lunch will be provided. This will be an important session, so please make every effort to attend. May Crowning Ceremony A May Crowning to honor our Blessed Mother will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:00 PM at St. Mary Church. Youth from 3 to 18 years of age are encouraged to participate in this beautiful tribute to Mary. Please contact Debby at the Religion Center ( ) by Sunday, May 6, to confirm youth participation or for more information. The service is open to ALL who desire to attend and give honor to our Blessed Mother. Following the service, a pizza party will be held in the conference room for the children to celebrate a year of learning more about their faith and drawing closer to Jesus! Adults are invited to remain in church during the pizza party for a special presentation following the service.

We thank everyone who helped make the Liturgies and church environment so beautiful during Lent and Holy Week, with a special thanks to our staff, choirs, ministers, servers, decorators and all those who helped in any way to prepare our church for this year s Holy Week ceremonies. Eight 7th and 8th grade students presented their science projects at the 84th Annual Region 7 meeting of PJAS held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Duquesne University. The following students received a first place award and will present their projects at the main campus of Penn State University in May. Cole Nix, Grade 7 - Do the number of dimples on a golf ball affect the distance it travels? Morgan Phillips, Grade 7 - The effectiveness of various mouthwashes on the reduction of coffee stains. Ryan Anderson, Grade 8 - The effect of maple extract on antibiotics. Lily Giovanelli, Grade 8 - How effective are hydrophobic coatings on the prevention of an endothermic reaction? Will Mason, Grade 8 - Does the amount of ammonium chloride affect the temperature of an endothermic reaction? Reese Pallone, Grade 8 - Which color of cotton fabric has the least penetration of UV light and the lowest capability to convert infrared light to heat energy? The following students received a second place award for their presentations: Olivia DiNatale, Grade 8 - Do enzymes in laundry detergent remove protein stains more effectively than those without? Gabby Mason, Grade 7 - Are sugar-free coffee creamers really sugar-free? Students are sponsored by Mrs. Cheryl Kestner and received additional assistance from Dr. Maryellen Schroeder, Dr. Glenn Rapsinski, and Mr. Donald Orlowski as well as from all of our volunteer judges from Science Night.

5 St. Anthony Novena All are invited to join with Mt. St. Peter Parish beginning on Tuesday, April 17, and continuing for 9 consecutive weeks of prayer on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Novena begins on April 17 with Opening Mass, Novena and Welcoming Reception in Marble Hall and ending on Tuesday, June 12, with Closing Mass, Novena, Bread Distribution and Officer Installation. This position offers significant opportunities to work directly with patients and their families. Lobby escorts greet outpatients and visitors and help them find their destination in the hospital. Interested volunteers are asked to make a weekly commitment for a 4-hour shift. Morning shifts start at 8:00 AM, afternoon shifts at 12:00 Noon. Current openings are available on Monday or Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday or Friday morning. Volunteers are the heart of the team at AVH.
