3 S S A + D 10-16, 2017 P N SYMPATHY We commend to your prayers Anna Marie Kicmol and Mary Ellen Lang who died recently. May God welcome them to the joys of Paradise and bring comfort and peace to their families. TIME ON YOUR HANDS? Sometimes in life we find we have extra time, either due to retirement, job layoff, or great organizational skills. If this is speaking to you, welcome! There are many ways in which our parishioners can be of assistance in the parish. We are always looking for volunteers available to share their talents and time. Call the Parish Office and let us know if you would be interested in helping with office mailings, being an Altar Server or Minister of Holy Communion at funerals, working the food bank, volunteering at the Community Clothes Closet, etc. It s as simple as that to get involved! Regional Advent Penance Services As Christmas draws near, we pray that Christ will dispel the darkness of sin from our lives and from our world. Donations help to fund educational scholarships to needy children in Solino, Haiti. LEGACY SOCIETY It is said that how we use our talents and where we spend our money define and announce our priorities. The enacted priorities of the members of our early parish are responsible for what we have here today. They selflessly sacrificed their time, talents, and treasures as they built this church with determination, ingenuity, and love. We owe it to them to pass this gift on to the next generation. This now should be our priority as we set the stage for tomorrow s world. One way to do this is to remember Mount Saint Peter Parish in your will or estate planning. This gift will support the spiritual, social, and community outreach missions of our parish and help keep our faith and good works alive in the future. For further information, please see the Legacy Society link on the parish website. ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER We would like to thank all those who have made the decision to enroll in the EFT program and those who are prayerfully considering this option of giving. Your commitment and dedication to the mission of Mount Saint Peter Parish are inspiring and appreciated. As you are aware, costs go up every year due to inflation. With your constant, continual, and consistent giving using the EFT program, the finances of the Parish will be more stable. If you have not yet enrolled please consider this option and complete the form included in this weekend s bulletin. You may also enroll online by visiting the parish website and completing the electronic form. Those enrolled in the program will still receive a pack of envelopes. If you have questions regarding the EFT option of giving, please call Kathy in the Parish Office. Thank you again for your faithful stewardship. The Advent Call to Conversion The preaching of John the Baptist summons us to examine our lives. He calls us to conversion, so that we might live our lives in right relationship with God and with others. We must not only avoid what is sinful. We must also do what is good, what is right, what is just. We must live each day in light of the coming of God s Kingdom. The following questions are posed for our reflection as we seek to examine our life in light of the Good News. How am I growing in my relationship with God? How does my daily prayer deepen that relationship? How frequently do I make time to read Scripture? How actively do I participate in the prayer of the Church, especially the Sunday Eucharist? How do I show my trust in the goodness of God, and God s great love for me? How do I seek to know God s will that I may consent and cooperate? How am I a faithful steward of God s gifts to me? How have I been willing to sacrifice my desires for the benefit of others? How do I respond to those who disappoint or hurt me? How do I hand over the past to God s merciful love? How have I practiced patience, compassion, understanding, and honesty? How do my daily interactions with others around me foster goodness? How do I accept each person as my brother or sister in Christ? How do I provide for those most in need? How do I promote forgiveness, justice, and peace? Plan to participate in one of the Regional Penance Services listed in today s bulletin.
6 Second Sunday of Advent Mount Saint Peter Parish Page Six There are never too many cooks in the MSP kitchens! The Parish Social Ministry committee is expanding the number of meals it promises to deliver to people in need. So, we re still looking for a few more good cooks to put their faith into action! As a way to give back during Advent, we are seeking parishioners to put together homemade take-out meals to give to customers at MSP's Community Clothes Closet, particularly toward the end of each month on days when the store is open. Customers often are even more in need by the end of the month and can use a meal when their budgets are stretched thin. We also will continue to be providing supper to the homeless families living at the Rivers of Life Church in Arnold, a shelter program of the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches, in coming months in the new year. To get on the schedule to volunteer your time and talent for the CCC or Rivers of Life, contact Maria Guzzo in the Parish Office Thanks to so many recent donations, the Community Clothes Closet is swamped with clothing! But, specific items are still in need such as winter gloves, socks, hats, and men s jeans. Paper towels, and toilet paper are also sought-after items. In this time of Advent, when you re making your list of gifts to purchase for others, consider the needs of the less fortunate, too. Or, create a clothing drive at your workplace or within your social circle, asking that these specific items be donated. The CCC, a social outreach ministry of our parish located at 319 Tenth St., New Kensington, helps serve the needs of community members who are experiencing financial difficulty. It is open on: Mondays 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Wednesdays 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM and Saturdays 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Please drop off donations during store hours.
