3 DECEMBER 12-13, 2015 The Pastor s Corner Our Lady of Guadalupe On the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dec. 12, we celebrated the Sacrament of Baptism for eight more of our schoolchildren. What a lovely feast day to welcome these new children of God to our parish and Church family. I am so proud of our school. I am proud of our teachers and principal for spreading the faith to our children. It is making such a difference in these families lives. By learning the faith in the classroom, these children are taking home information to their parents, who are then asking for the sacraments to be administered. Whole families are being baptized and preparing for other sacraments. Our Lady of Guadalupe is known as the Patroness of the Unborn. How appropriate that she is representing the unborn and then we see these children, born to the families in our school, now receiving the sacrament that will open the doors to all other sacraments. We must continue praying and asking Our Lady to bring an end to human sacrifice of God s children. We must pray for the end of abortion and continue to convert those seeking the faith. men? men! THE REDINGS FOR THIS WEEK Catalytic converters Zephaniah 3:14-18 Isaiah 12:2-6 Philippians 4:4-7 Luke 3:10-18 Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice! Philippians 4:4 Paul made one of the greatest proclamations in history when he commanded the Philippians: Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice! On Paul s initial mission to the Philippians, he and Silas were beaten, stripped, scourged, thrown in jail, and had their feet tied to a stake (cts 16:22-24). Under these terrible conditions, Paul and Silas decided to rejoice and sing praises to the Lord (cts 16:25). This joyful praise was catalytic. It was followed by an earthquake, which resulted in freedom from chains and prison (cts 16:26). Next, the jailer and his family were converted to Christ (cts 16:33). t Philippi, Paul personally experienced the power of praise and joy. So he knew what he was talking about when he commanded: Rejoice in the Lord always! I say it again. Rejoice! Paul came to realize that he had joy not in spite of sufferings but rather by means of sufferings. Sufferings are not incompatible with joy; instead, they are even necessary to rejoice always. Paul proclaimed: Even now I find my joy in the suffering I endure for you (Col 1:24). We rejoice in the measure that we share Christ s sufferings (1 Pt 4:13). Therefore, it is impossible to rejoice in the Lord always unless we suffer with Christ. Joy is catalytic. It sets off a chain-reaction of miracles leading to salvation. Redemptive suffering is a catalyst of catalysts. It leads to joy. Prayer: Father, on this Gaudete (Rejoice) Sunday, reveal to me the mysteries of joy. Promise: Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Zep 3:14 Praise: Praise You, Jesus, Emmanuel, God-with-us (see Mt 1:23). lleluia! (Reprinted with permission from One Bread, One Body at 3

4 SINT CECILI ROMN CTHOLIC PRISH CLOSE R LOOK T OUR FIT H KNOW YOUR SINTS CTECHESIS (kat i-ke sis) n. Can Mary really help us? Yes. Since the beginning of the Church, experience has taught that Mary helps. Millions of Christians testify to it. [ ] Being the Mother of Jesus, Mary is also our Mother. Good mothers always stand up for their children. Certainly this Mother does. While still on earth she interceded with Jesus for others; for example, she protected a bride and groom in Cana from embarrassment. In the Upper Room on Pentecost she prayed in the midst of the disciples. Because her love for us never ceases, we can be sure that she will plead for us in the two most important moments of our life: now and at the hour of our death. (YOUCT question 148) Pro-life message Week 38 Mary s body is flooding Jesus with antibodies this week as he gets ready for the big day. These will support his natural immune system for most of the first year of life outside the womb. Jesus of the womb, Hear our prayers! Blessed Pope Urban V ( ) In 1362, the man elected pope declined the office. When the cardinals could not find another person among them for that important office, they turned to a relative stranger: the holy person we honor today. The new Pope Urban V proved a wise choice. Benedictine monk and canon lawyer, he was deeply spiritual and brilliant. He lived simply and modestly, which did not always earn him friends among clergymen who had become used to comfort and privilege. Still, he pressed for reform and saw to the restoration of churches and monasteries. Except for a brief period he spent most of his eight years as pope living away from Rome at vignon, seat of the papacy from 1309 until shortly after his death. He came close but was not able to achieve one of his biggest goals reuniting the Eastern and Western churches. s pope, Urban continued to follow the Benedictine Rule. Shortly before his death in 1370 he asked to be moved from the papal palace to the nearby home of his brother so he could say goodbye to the ordinary people he had so often helped. doration. 5 ST. CECILI FEST DY CELEBRTION: We had such an incredible turnout for our 10:00 Mass to celebrate the Feast of St.. The music was phenomenal and so moving. Thank you to Bob Kellison and the choir for your dedication. I also want to thank the Pastoral Council members for putting together a lovely reception afterward. I heard many compliments to our chefs, Peter and Jenny Manto (photo, left), for the spectacular meal they prepared. The parishioners were also very happy to receive the history of St. books that were also used as centerpieces. I m always so proud of how our parish comes together for such wonderful events. Thank you for being a part of the celebration. 1 NRTHEX: We have some new wall hangings in the narthex. I found and obtained these four plaques (detail photo, below) 10 years ago while searching online for other religious items. They were reclaimed from a Catholic church in Hawaii. They are over 80 years old. I purchased them not knowing where they would end up being placed. I truly think these four plaques now have a perfect spot where they can be appreciated. The four plaques consist of the 10 Commandments, the Our Father, and the Creed. Take a hard look at these gems. I think you will appreciate them as much I do. 1 NEW LIGHT: Gifted to the rectory parlor was a beautiful Victorian light fixture (photo, top right) from the 1930s. It is definitely a unique piece. I have to say that when I first saw it, I was taken aback by it. I had never seen a light fixture like it. I do not even know what you call it, but whatever you call it, it seems to fit perfectly into the decor of the rectory. It is truly beautiful, and I thank all who made it possible to be hung. 1 THNKSGIVING DINNER: I want to thank PST OR S RMBLIN GS DECEMBER 12-13, 2015 Dan O Connell for his 18th year of running the Thanksgiving Day dinner (photo, below). s usual, it went well. Of course it goes well not only because of Dan but also because of all the volunteers that cook, carve, serve, greet, clear, clean up, and schedule and deliver meals for our parish dinner. This meal truly shows the character of the parish. 1 GRNDM S BIRTHDY: My grandma Pearl turned 105! Here she is pictured at left with her three daughters on the celebration of her birthday. You may recognize them. On the left is my my aunt, Helene Fondacaro, who is also a parishioner. In the middle is my mother, Kathy Weber, and on the right is my godmother, Cheryl rchiable. 1 WELCOME, CHILD OF GOD: On Sun., Nov. 22, I baptized Therese Hemak (photo, left) at our 10:00 Mass. It was a really nice connection to baptize a baby named on the day we celebrated the feast day of St.. s parents are Jason, the Pastoral Council chair, and Holly, who heads our Moms Group. 5
