Her feast day is on Nov. 22, and she is the patron saint of one of the parishes in our region. Each parish in our region has a love for the music in the Mass. The music directors from our regional parishes have a great love for the liturgy and put a lot of time into planning beautiful Mass settings. It is said that as the musicians played at St. Cecilia s wedding, she sang in her heart to the Lord. I think we can say the same about each of our choir members. It is so important that the music helps support the Gospel message. It makes such a difference when you see the parishioners singing or listening attentively to live the Gospel more fully through the music that is played. Amen? Amen! Thanks to all who supported the Annual Turkey Dinner at St. Margaret-St. John. It was a great success. We thank all the workers who baked turkeys, peeled potatoes, baked desserts, and worked the day of the dinner. Many of you have given your time and talent for many years and we thank you! National Night of Prayer for Life This year for the first time, our Eastside Region will join together with parishes and nations around the world to celebrate the National Night of Prayer for Life. This very special night will take place from 9 PM on Dec. 8 until 1 AM on Dec. 9. at St. Cecilia Church. Our Prayer for Life prayer service will consist of: exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary, the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel and silent prayer, music and hymns. This wondrous night unites the Feast of the Immaculate Conception with the Feast of St. Juan Diego. It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in 1531 (at that time celebrated on Dec. 9), that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the Unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The Fatima message continues to be most relevant today. Churches and nations around the world are called this night, to join together and to pray to our Blessed Mother for her protection of life and families and that she renews the Church and establishes peace. Please join us for an hour or all of this important night. the hours that you will be able to be present between 9 PM and 1 AM to bswartz@fuse.net. Jacob had the Mass at St. Cecilia (photo 1). It was his first time to meet with the little saints, Fr. Jacob did a nice job asking the children about what saints they were dressed up as (photo 2), and after Mass, they all got a special cookie for participating. I got to talk to the little saints at St. Anthony, who are part of our PREP class. We also had an All Saints School Mass where the children dressed up (photo 3). 1 All Souls Mass: At both St. Margaret-St. John and St. Cecilia, we had our annual All Souls Masses. Thank you to all of the people who helped put these beautiful liturgies together. St. Cecilia had a candlelight Mass that evening celebrated by Monsignor Lane and Fr. Jacob (photo 4). A big thankyou to Barb Browasky and her team for putting together the lovely reception after Mass. I also want to thank Helen Davis and the Bereavement Committees from St. Margaret-St. John and St. Anthony Parishes. 1 Halloween Parade: The schoolchildren dressed up in their Halloween costumes and had their annual parade. I dressed up as Darth Vader and joined them in the gym (photo 5). The kids really went all out on their costumes (photos 6-7) this year!

The society is funded through bequests and special gifts to St. Cecilia. During November, we especially remember those who continued their giving to the parish through a bequest. Annual Thanksgiving Collection The St. Margaret-St. John Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be held on the following three weekends: Nov , Nov , and Dec. 1 & 2. Donations from this collection will be used throughout the year to help our neighbors in need. Marriage Annulments The Catholic Church dedicates much time and effort to prepare couples for marriage. However, despite the couples best efforts, unfortunately a marriage union sometimes fails to reach fulfillment for both parties and may end in a civil divorce. The Catholic Church has mechanisms and processes in place to assist people in these situations, especially if they anticipate another marriage. If you find yourself in this circumstance, we would like to help. The Road to Canonization Venerable Henriette DeLille was born in 1812 in New Orleans, Louisiana, as a free woman of color.

Henriette eventually founded the Society of the Holy Family, responding to the need for treatment of the enslaved, elderly and sick, and care and education for the poor.

Hannan began the canonization process for Henriette DeLille in 1988. A special commission in Rome gave approval in 1988 after a review process.

At 24 years of age, Henriette experienced a religious conversion, and proclaimed: I believe in God. I hope in God. I love. I want to live and die for God. Henriette eventually founded the Society of the Holy Family, responding to the need for treatment of the enslaved, elderly and sick, and care and education for the poor. Henriette received tribute for her life s work in these words from her obituary,...(henriette) devoted herself untiringly for many years, without reserve, to the religious instruction of the people of New Orleans, principally of slaves.... The last line of her obituary reads,...for the love of Jesus Christ she had become the humble and devout servant of the slaves. Archbishop Philip M. Hannan began the canonization process for Henriette DeLille in A special commission in Rome gave approval in 1988 after a review process. In 2004 a biography of her life, written by Fr. Cyprian Davis, OSB, was published. The canonization process is comprised of four phases: Servant of God, Venerable, Blessed and Saint. As of this time, an alleged miracle attributed to Henriette is being tried in a Catholic Tribunal, and the decree of judicial validity was issued in the investigation of her life, virtues, and reputation of sanctity. 7 focus on Justice 7 Here I wish to bring up an important issue. Some may rightly say, When the Pope speaks of colonialism, he overlooks certain actions of the Church. I say this to you with regret: many grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God. My predecessors acknowledged this, CELAM, the Council of Latin American Bishops, has said it, and I too wish to say it. Like Saint John Paul II, I ask that the Church I repeat what he said kneel before God and implore forgiveness for the past and present sins of her sons and daughters. I would also say, and here I wish to be quite clear, as was Saint John Paul II: I humbly ask forgiveness, not only for the offenses of the Church herself, but also for crimes committed against the native peoples during the so-called conquest of America. Together with this request for forgiveness and in order to be just, I also would like us to remember the thousands of priests and bishops who strongly opposed the logic of the sword with the power of the Cross. There was sin, a great deal of it, for which we did not ask pardon. So for this, we ask forgiveness, I ask forgiveness. But here also, where there was sin, great sin, grace abounded through the men and women who defended the rights of indigenous peoples. Please note: MEAC is in particular need of toys as they are no longer receiving donations from Toys For Tots. Saengerfest St. Anthony s wonderful choir is returning to Saengerfest again this year! On Saturday, Dec. 1, the choir will perform concerts at 7 and 8 PM in Memorial Hall. Saengerfest is a choir celebration in Over the Rhine, and so in addition to the St. Anthony choir you can listen to other area choirs at a number of venues around Washington Park with free shuttles running throughout. Tickets are available at An evening prayer for peace in our troubled world will be held on Nov. 29 at the Holy Hour at St. Anthony. We will pray for all those who have suffered from or have lost loved ones to acts of evil. And we will ask God for the strength and wisdom to always stand for what is good and just.
