So Thankful. What a wonderful festival! I am so grateful to Joy and Doug Kornish for their leadership in having another successful festival. The number of people involved to make this such a success is incredible. I can t thank our parishioners and volunteers enough for all of their help. We could never pull this off without all of you. I am so grateful for the work that Doug and Joy have done these last three years, and now it s time to pass the baton. I will be looking for people to step up to be the next festival chairs. 4 PASTOR S R AMBLINGS HAPPY BIRTHDAY! St. Margaret-St. John Parish was happy to help celebrate the 90th birthday of longtime parishioner Mrs. Pat Kemme (photo 1) at the 10 AM Mass on July 15. Mrs. Kemme s grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in the Mass as lectors and gift bearers. We were honored to have her granddaughter Sr. Tracy Kemme cantor the Mass. 1 CONGRATULATIONS! 6 E ASTSIDE FAITH 6 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 A Summer with the Saints SAINT GABRIEL OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS ~ PATRON OF CLERICS Gabriel was born in Assisi on March 1, 1838, the eleventh of thirteen children. He was devoted to the pleasures of the world, but, guided by Our Lady into the Passionist Order, he became a true apostle of her sorrows. There was nothing extraordinary about him except his faithfulness to prayer, his love of sacrifice, and his joyful spirit. At the age of twenty-three, just as he was finishing his studies for the priesthood, he was stricken with tuberculosis, and died a year later at Isola on February 27, There were no miraculous events in his life, but after his death many miracles occurred at his tomb. He is called St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows because of his great love for Mary suffering with her Son. Remembering Jesus and Mary in their sufferings made Gabriel all the more generous in proving his love. Imitate this youthful saint by thinking frequently of the sorrows of Mary, that through her motherly care you may reach holiness and save your soul. O God, You taught St. Gabriel to dwell upon the sorrows of Your most sweet Mother, and raised him to the glory of holiness and miracles. Find the Stillness Within Meditation/Contemplative Prayer Groups Mondays 12:30-1:30 PM At St. Margaret-St. John Parish Office 4100 Watterson St. Join us on the inner journey to God within us through meditation/contemplative prayer. This ancient form of silent prayer is rooted in the Gospels and letters of St. Paul and has been practiced since earliest Christian days. Evening Vespers The men of our region meet on the third Thursday of every month at 8 PM at St. Cecilia for vespers, the evening prayer of the Church and one of the hinge hours of the Liturgy of the Hours. Our next meeting is August 16. Join us for prayer and fellowshop immediately after. St. Cecilia Moms Group Our Moms Group met at Juilfs Park in Anderson on July 13 for a summer play date. The kids ran out their energy on the playground, in the sand, and all around the splash pad area. Two of our newest members, Charlie and Johnny, enjoyed the shade!
