1 st. germain bo-boen snowmobile club One of Wisconsin s Premier Snowmobile Clubs since Celebrating more than 40 years of winter fun! volume number 6 president s message Well, the Holidays are over and we can all settle down and get back to the business at hand, Snowmobiling. We had a great start and then it died like usual for the past several years. We have everything we need, a great trail system, great equipment, superb groomer drivers, an extensive customer base and a hard working and dedicated club. We need snow, as much as we dislike shoveling and plowing the white stuff we need it to showcase the community and its businesses. We are the biggest club in the state and I think the capital of snowmobiling in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Think, wish and pray for the white gold we need to show off our capabilities. The General Meeting on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Sportsmen s Chalet was attended by 53 members and guests. After the blessing by Ed Siergiej we were served an excellent meal by Chef Gary and Laurel Frank and their wait staff of Trica, Tina and Rochelle. After the meal we conducted our business meeting. After all of the reports by Board members we appointed the Nominating Committee for the upcoming elections in March. I appointed Lee Christensen as Chairman, followed by Gary Jacobi and Jim Rybarczyk. Nominated from the floor were Kay Schultz and Judy Pacanowski. The positions open are President, President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer and two Director Positions, Gary Shambo and Bev Dittmar. Anyone interested in running for a Board position should contact the Chairman of the Nominating Committee before the February meeting. Our membership chairperson, Judy Pacanowski, reports that we now have 449 members and that we hope to pick up more at our future events. Let s shoot for 500 by the end of the season. rich polaski home: (715) rlpolaski@gmail.com Gary Frank mentioned that lake access to Little St. Germain Lake from Shields Road through Bib s Resort was now open until further advised. I stopped in and checked with Tony Farrow and was advised that indeed the trail was open through the resort. The barricades have been removed and access is down Shields Road past the bar and down the boat ramp. Please follow the path indicated and ride slow and as quiet as possible. Hopefully a solution has been reached and will last throughout the season. Kudos to Bev Dittmar and Ron Rhodes and all those that helped out for another successful Snowmobile Safety Class. Seventy-five kids from all over the United States attended and learned how to safely ride a snowmobile on our trails. Thanks again for a job well done. February Membership Meeting Tuesday, February 8th Clearview Supper Club Cocktails 6:00 pm Dinner 7:00 pm Menu Selection: febraury 2011 Groomer Ride-Alongs have been established for Club members for a token donation of $ We are looking at opening it up to the public as a fund raising effort. The last event is the Vintage Race, Food Booth scheduled for Saturday, February 26th, 9 am to 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm to 4 pm. We need a number of members for each shift. Call me if you can help us out with any of these events at (715) Every dollar earned helps us with our goal of providing the best trails in the Northwoods. 3 from the secretary s desk pam gebhardt cell: (715) geby.four@gmail.com trail boss report jim wendt cell: (715) starman@newnorth.net It s election time again. There is information in this newsletter about the election which happens at the March Membership Meeting. If you cannot attend, you can vote by absentee ballot by requesting one in writing (regular mail or e- mail) from me (PO Box 192; St. Germain, WI or geby.four@gmail.com) before 4 pm on Tuesday, March 1st. I would like to THANK my family for filling in for me at the Radar Run this past weekend. I came down with a bad cold and wasn t able to work. Tim, Jacob & Nathan stepped up to the plate and did a terrific job filling in where they were needed Thursday thru Sunday. I would also like to THANK everyone else that braved the elements in 35 weather to make this a successful fundraising event for the club. Hopefully we will see you & a few more new faces at the Vogel Groomer Show in a couple of weeks and then at the Vintage Race in a month. We ll see you on the trail Pam This is really discouraging! Another Christmas New Year melt to mess up our snowmobile landscape in huge proportions. We were forced to take a nine day break from grooming almost unheard of in January in the snow belt. They are now calling for more snow in the near future so let's hope they are right. I can tell you that your groomer driver staff is really frustrated! We like to get on a regular schedule and stay on it. It helps to keep your edge with the equipment so you do a great job and not just a good job. This sporadic scheduling really gets to you. As always, if you get a chance to say "thank you" to one of your drivers, know it is greatly appreciated. Your staff for this season consists of: Crew chief Tom Marks, Adam Ruenger and Mike Osborne on the Sayner run; Crew chief John Vojta, Steve Hausner and Frank Lawrence on the Buffalo Lake run; Crew chief Mike Zainer, Matt Verseman, and Troy Schalinske on the Eagle River run; Crew chief Al Clemmensen, Ty Trapp and Mike McCormick on the Town run; and Crew chief Jim Wendt, Gary Jacobi and Todd Wiese on the Dam Lake run. Tim Gebhardt serves as our substitute driver. This is a great group of dedicated drivers who really deserve your support. I hope I have more to report next month. Until then, I hope you can take advantage of the snow we do have ----I like to believe that even bad snowmobiling is better than NO snowmobiling. Happy Trails, Jim february 2011 February 2 & 3, 2011 Charles Vogel Enterprises St. Germain Equipment displays and demonstrations from 9:00 am 4:00 pm. 4 THANK YOU! We would like to thank everyone that helped out this year with the Snowmobile Safety Class. We needed to have volunteers outside for the driving course, inside for instruction, in the kitchen for food service and members to bring in baked goods. We had all of these bases covered and this year we had 75 students. They came from all over Wisconsin and eight different states. Thanks again, Bev Dittmar & Ron Rhodes Snowmobile Safety Class Students receive instruction on parts of the snowmobile, safety features, maintenance and repair from Bill Weber. Bev Dittmar works with one of the students Ron Rhodes preparing a student for the handson snowmobile operation part of the class. In addition to the hands-on snowmobile operation there is a snowmobile ride simulation. As a club, we become a unified voice in the direction of the affairs in our area. If there is no voice, our group does not make its concerns and opinions known. Someone else then makes the recreational decisions that we will live by. Please get involved!

5 Election Information Officers are elected to a one-year term. Officer positions are President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. A President may serve for not more than two consecutive terms. There are two Director positions open each year. Directors are elected to fulfill a three-year term. The slate of candidates will be presented by the Nominating Committee at the February Membership meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at that time. A sample ballot and a statement from the candidates will be printed in the March newsletter. The election will take place at the membership meeting on March 8, The Tellers Committee will be provided with a membership list, and members attending the meeting will be asked to register with them and receive a ballot upon arrival. Voting will take place during the meeting, which follows the dinner, when the president calls for the ballots. The ballots are tabulated and the winners are announced before the end of the meeting. The new officers and directors take office and assume their duties at the April Board Meeting. Anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot must request a ballot from the secretary, in writing ( will do), up to 7 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots must be returned in the envelope provided, sealed and mailed. No requests for absentee ballots will be accepted. ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a non-resident trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state. A two year Wisconsin registration is $30.00, compared to two trail passes at $70.00 for two years. Almost two times the money is generated with a two year registration as is with two trail passes due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund; the state snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin registration instead of a trail pass, you save $40.00 every two years and contribute more money to the state fund. It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website. Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border. Please respect the landowners and stay on the trail. Keep it quiet when riding near homes. And above all have fun and ride safe and remember to keep to the right especially over those hills and around those corners!!

6 The St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club will be hosting a race for the Northern Vintage Snowmobile Race Series on Saturday, February 26, Racing starts at 10:00 am and ends around 5:00 pm at the St. Germain Community Center and soccer fields. Admission is free, and you can come by car or by snowmobile. Refreshments and food are available all day in the Community Center and by the track. This is the sixth year we will be hosting this event. It is a great fundraiser for our club, and we need volunteers to help with the race and also for food service. If you can help out that day, please contact either Tom Christensen at or stgsport@frontier.com or Rich Polaski at or rlpolaski@gmail.com.
