1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating Snowmobiling Since 1969! Volume Number 3 October 2017 President s Message Tom Nampel I hope everyone had a good summer, now its time to think snowmobiling. Remember to get your membership renewals in. For those of you who did not receive the renewal electronically there is a renewal form in this newsletter. Please fill it out and sent it in. Our membership year runs from October 1st to September 30th. August was busy with fund raisers. We were Sponsors along with the St. Germain Chamber for the 5K Bacon Dash held during Pig in the Pines. Thank you Mike Swenson, Jim Swenson, Don & Marie Bauman, Pam Gebhardt, Jim & Karen Grace and Peggy & Ozzie Ausloos for working that event for us we earned $500 for the club. We had the 21st annual Pig Roast at the Sportsmen s Chalet and the 4th annual Drive with the Groomer Drivers at the St. Germain Golf Club the last weekend of August. I would like to thank all of sponsors, volunteers, those that donated raffle prizes and those that attended and made these events a success! Thank you! The club has a great bunch of volunteers but we can always use more. We have some events coming up this winter that will need a lot of help. We have the Radar Run and the Arrowhead Groomer Show. The Trail Boss and groomer drivers have the equipment ready to go. We have 4 new drivers this year that are ready to go. We will have our brushing day on October 21st. If you can make that it would help a lot. I'm looking forward to another great season. CLUB RAFFLE INFORMATION Last season s was a great success and we will once again have a club cash raffle. The raffle will be similar as last season. Tickets will be $50 each with a maximum of only 200 tickets sold. Cash Prizes will be: 1 st $3,000, 2 nd $1,000, 3 rd $1,000, 4 th $500, 5 th $500. For our out of town members, if you would like to reserve a ticket to purchase when you do visit, please send us a note via at info@boboen.com. We will arrange to have a ticket(s) available for you to pick up or we can try to get to your hotel, cottage, etc. when you are in the area. The drawing will be at our March 13, 2018 Dinner/Meeting and as usual you need not be present to win. We believe this can be a great fundraiser with a bit of fun of winning some cash. Help us make this successful. Thank you to all who are able to participate. MAP ADVERTISER REMINDER If you are a advertiser on our map, please remember that your membership dues are Included in the cost. Thank you very much for your support. Snowmobile Safety Education Class December 27 & 28 Beginning January 1, 2001, any person born on or after January 1, 1985 and who has reached the age of 12, must have completed and received a snowmobile safety certificate in order to operate a snowmobile in Wisconsin. The certificate must be carried while operating the snowmobile, and displayed to a law enforcement officer upon demand. Snowmobile Safety Education Classes are offered in the fall and early winter, and should start appearing on the DNR s web site within the next month or so. All students are required to obtain a Wisconsin DNR Customer ID# as part of the criteria to graduate from any Recreational Safety Class and provide that number to their instructor. Students can obtain a DNR Customer ID# from St. Germain Sport Marine during business hours or by calling between 7 am to 10 pm. You can also visit a Wisconsin DNR Service Center during their regular scheduled hours. For additional DNR Service Center hours and locations go to and click on the Contact US tab located at the top. The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club s Snowmobile Safety Education Class will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, December 27 & 28, Anyone 11-1/2 years of age or older is eligible to take the class and receive a safety education certificate; however, the certificate does not become valid until the child reaches 12 years of age. Pre-registration is required by calling Peggy Ausloos at (715)
2 Trail Boss Jim Wendt If you are like me, I am wondering where did summer go. As much as we all love the winter season, it just seems to be coming so soon. We have been getting ready to start brushing with our equipment. We have had no luck selling our tractor so it appears we will need to spend some money for necessary track repairs. We have purchased a new club truck used for sign work on the trails. We found a 2011 Chevy pickup for a trade price of $17, It has around 90,000 miles and is in great condition. My thanks to Steve Soltwedel for his scouting of vehicles until the right one came along. Please mark your schedule for the club brushing on Saturday, October 21st. Meet at the groomer barn by 9:00 am for assignments, coffee, and rolls. I look forward to seeing a great turnout for this fun day on the trails. Happy Trails, Jim Secretary s Report Kay Schultz Last week there were frost warnings for Vilas County, the hummingbirds have left for South America, many of the trees are sporting their fall colors and some of the deer already have their winter coats. Autumn is definitely upon the Northwoods. If the summer rain is any indication of the winter snow, we will have to tunnel out of the house. For the club, our season has begun. On Tuesday, September 12th we had our first membership dinner. Held at 19th Hole, we had 65 members attend. A great big thank you to Kate, Tim and Nicole for the great food and service. Please take note that the next dinner will be held at Spang s on October 10th. (P.S. Start practicing your snow dance.) (l r) Trail Boss, Jim Wendt, Ozzie Ausloos and Steve Soltwedel, our sign guys! 3 Pig Roast at Sportsmen s Chalet On August 26 th, Gary and Laurel Frank of Sportsmen s Chalet hosted the 21 st annual pig roast to benefit both the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club and the New-Tom Sno Fleas Snowmobile Club. Despite the rainy weather, everyone enjoyed the great meal, the many raffles and of course the socializing with friends. Due to Gary and Laurel s efforts, each club will receive a check for $4, Following is a list of those who made a donation to this event. They would like to thank everyone who helped make the pig roast a huge success, including the St. Germain Chamber for advertising the pig roast on the sign board. They would also like to thank the people that make all the desserts. Thank you Gary & Laurel for your continued support of our club!
