1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Volume Number 5 February 2013 President s Message Well this is the month of January where we should be out riding our trails. Not yet this month. Our annual thaw has occurred and the trails are ice based and not much snow to ride on. The Nominating Committee was selected and Bob Schell was appointed Chairman. Should you have any candidates you feel should serve on the Board please contact Bob at (715) so they can be presented at the next meeting. Remember this is your club, appoint the people you think will serve you best. Several Directorships are open, as well as, President, President-Elect, Treasurer and Secretary which are elected every year. On February 1, 2 & 3 the 10 th Annual Radar Run sponsored by Discover Wisconsin and Sprecher Brewerywill again be on Little St. Germain Lake with the club setting up the food tent on the north side of the track serving Trig s World Famous Brats, Burgers, soda and beer. On Saturday at 2 pm the annual Bikini Run will start. The money raised by the girls will be donated to the Pink Ribbon Riders, St. Germain Fire & Rescue and Plum Lake Ambulance. If anyone wishes to donate to any of the riders you can go t o t h e i r w e b s i t e Any member who wishes to lend a helping hand to either set up, work the event or help tear it down on Sunday can contact me at snowgoers3@aol.com and I will put you on the sheet. Following the Radar Run is the Walker Groomer Show on February 6 & 7. Again if you are able to help out please contact me at snowgoers3@aol.com. All of our members I hope are doing their own form of snow dance so we can get out and ride our trails like we would all like to. Al Clemmensen Election Information Officers are elected to a one-year term. Officer positions are President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary. A President may serve for not more than two consecutive terms. There are two Director positions open each year. Directors are elected to fulfill a three-year term. The slate of candidates will be presented by the Nominating Committee at the February Membership meeting. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at that time. A sample ballot and a statement from the candidates will be printed in the March newsletter. The election will take place at the membership meeting on March 12, The Tellers Committee will be provided with a membership list, and members attending the meeting will be asked to register with them and receive a ballot upon arrival. Voting will take place during the meeting, which follows the dinner, when the president calls for the ballots. The ballots are tabulated and the winners are announced before the end of the meeting. The new officers and directors take office and assume their duties at the April Board Meeting. Anyone wishing to vote by absentee ballot must request a ballot from the secretary, in writing ( will do), up to 7 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots must be returned in the envelope provided, sealed and mailed. No requests for absentee ballots will be accepted after that time. 2 Snowmobilers Breakfast Sponsored by St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Sunday, January 27, 2013 Knocker s Pizza Company Downtown St. Germain Serving 8:00 am-noon $10.00 Join us for food & fun! Proceeds will be used for grooming expenses incurred throughout the year in maintaining our 100+ miles of Bo-Boen trails.

3 Mike Zainer was recently honored for his 21 years of dedicated service to the club as a Crew Chief and Groomer Driver by Jim Wendt, Trail Boss. Trail Boss Report This has been the most astounding winter I can remember. We are in the middle of January and the trails are unrideable. Not much to report on the grooming. Your drivers have been coming to Monday maintenance and working on our equipment as needed. I can report that the town board is STILL considering a measure to require a conditional use permit for a snowmobile trail to cross private land. We had assurances this was a dead issue but the town chair has chosen to put the issue before the board for consideration. Sure doesn't sound like this board is a friend of snowmobiling to me! We will need to turn out in large numbers at the February townboard meeting on the second Monday to voice our strong objection to this issue. We will keep you posted. Sure is sad to not be able to report on riding but there always seems to be legal issues to watch and write about. Elections are coming in April for Walt Camp, Fred Radtke, Tom Martens, and one open seat----- it is...time FOR A CHANGE!!!! The economics of St. Germain are truly threatened with this non-support of the sport that provides the means of survival for our local businesses. This current board seems oblivious to the harm that will come to our town if they keep promoting changes that will adversely affect our sport. We will keep you informed on this very important issue as it unfolds. Happy Trails Jim Wendt Ron and I want to thank the following people for their assistance at the snowmobile safety class held in December. This was the first time I could not fly back for the class. Dave got the flu and I couldn't leave him. My son Mark ran the book part of the class and certified 58 students very successfully. Volunteers included: Mark Dittmar, Sandy Dittmar Voight, Ed Siergiej, Chuck & Judy Berard, Pam Gebhardt, Hazel & Doug Christensen, Debbie Roberts, Al Clemmensen, Arlene Rickenberg, Margie & Milt Klingsporn, Barbara Steinhilber, Gary Jacobi, Steve Stritzel, Greg Hutton, Lenny Hill, Jackie Schell, Geri Shambo, Carol Hall. These are the people who gave of their time inside on food, correcting tests and registering students and supplying cookies, also helping Ron outside with the machine test. The club should be very proud of these selfless people. Bev Dittmar & Ron Rhodes From the Secretary's desk. We have a very busy couple of weeks coming up with vital fundraisers for the club. Please show your support and help out where you can. See you next Sunday at Knocker s and the following weekend at the Radar Runs! It s election time again. There is information in this newsletter about the election which happens at the March Membership Meeting. If you can not attend, you can vote by absentee ballot by requesting one in writing (regular mail or ) from me (PO Box 192; St. Germain, WI or geby.four@gmail.com) before 4 pm on Tuesday, March 5, I will not be running again for your Secretary/Newsletter Editor. It is time to pass the torch or more appropriately copy machine. You won t be getting rid of me, but it s time to free up some of my donated time. If you have any questions regarding trail conditions, you can become a fan of the club and follow us on Facebook. Also, check out our website at Pam Gebhardt CLUB RIDE One more time!!! The next club ride is scheduled for Friday, February 15, We will be riding (snow conditions permitting) to The Granary in Boulder Junction where we will have breakfast. We will leave from the Groomer barn at 9 am. Non-riders are welcome to join us at the restaurant. Please call (715) to RSVP.
