1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating our 45th Snowmobiling Season! Volume Number 9 March 2015 Presidents Message Tom Christensen Hello Everyone, Since the last newsletter, we have had a few big events in St. Germain. The first event was a breakfast fundraiser at Knocker Pizza Company the Sunday of Martin Luther King weekend. We were surprised the week before with Barry s announcement that he would have an omelet bar and to expect omelets to order. What a great idea that was. Everyone that I spoke with enjoyed their breakfast and it was a big success. I would like to thank Barry and Shelly for hosting this fundraiser for us. The second event was the groomer show on Wednesday and Thursday that same week. This was the 18 th year for the show. There were 17 vendors from Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada. Also 117 Clubs from 5 states were represented Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Our club has served the food at the show since it moved from Eagle River to St. Germain and we thank the Walkers for giving us this opportunity for a very successful fund raising event. The third event was the Radar Run and this event keeps getting bigger and bigger on the following Friday and Saturday. The club again does the food service for this event and it was a huge success this year. There are speed runs on Friday and Saturday, drag racing under the lights on Friday night, a Bikini Run on Saturday, a Vendor s Row, food and beverages all day both days. All this happens on the West Bay of Little St. Germain Lake. Set your calendars for next year and plan on spending more time in St. Germain supporting your club and snowmobiling. Thank you for your support, Tom Christensen Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Sample Ballot Election Officers & Directors President: One Year Term Vote for One Bob Ozzie Ausloos President-Elect: One Year Term Vote for One Tom Nampel Treasurer: One Year Term Vote for One Ed Siergiej Secretary: One Year Term Vote for One Kay Schultz Director: Three Year Term Vote for Two Don Baumann Milt Klingsporn Jim Rybarczyk Dave Walker

3 Trail Boss Report Jim Wendt It sure is hard to realize that we are almost through February with only a month of our season left! This season has been a very good one for the Bo-Boen s even with limited January snows. The early season panning and grooming provided us with a great base that has withstood the onslaught of visitors throughout the busy months of January and February. We have had no major equipment problems and your drivers have done a fantastic job all year long. Thank you to all who have donated to our equipment fund this year. We have around $30, that will go toward our next purchase. We hope to have something in place this spring/summer if all goes well. It is kind of encouraging to have only 8 statewide deaths this season. While only one is too many, maybe the efforts towards safety on the trails are paying off. The large numbers of safety class enrollees and the public service announcements have assuredly made a difference. Have many of you seen the large portable safety billboard that was placed across from the Hearthside on trail 15? This is one of 4 placed around the county by the Vilas county safety committee supported by the member alliance clubs. The committee has been very pro-active with safety related public service announcements throughout the season. A big shout out to Leo Crowley from Presque Isle for his and his committee s efforts on a well received effort. Enjoy the late season riding our trails...it should be some of the best all season! Happy Trails, Jim March Membership Meeting Tuesday, March 10th Golden Pines Cocktails 6:00 pm Dinner 7:00 pm Menu Selection Prime Rib served with baked potato & veggie Almond Crusted Chicken Breast served on a bed of wild rice with asparagus & topped with buerreblanc sauce 2 Skewers Grilled Shrimp served on a bed of wild rice & veggie All dinners include tossed salad with choice of homemade French or Ranch dressing, rolls & butter, dessert & coffee. Snowmobilers are flocking to the area but we have had very little new snow for them. Keep your dancing shoes on think jitterbug, not waltz. I would like to give a big thank you to Laurel, Gary and the staff of Sportsmen s Chalet for our February membership dinner. 5 Candidate Statements President Bob Ozzie Ausloos Peg and I moved to St. Germain full time 3 years ago after I retired. We ve had property here since 1998 and have belonged to the Bo-Boen s since that time. We love living in a small town. St Germain thrives on its volunteers and service organizations. The Bo -Boen Snowmobile Club is one of the organizations that are important to this community. We have belonged to snowmobile clubs since the early 80 s and I have held various board positions, including president, in these clubs. The Bo-Boen Club is strong, healthy, and growing. I want to help keep this club a viable part of the community and the premiere snowmobiling destination in the Midwest. I thank you for your nomination of President and would appreciate your vote. President Elect Tom Nampel My wife Julaine and I moved to St. Germain full time in 1998 when I came here for my work. I have been snowmobiling since 2000 and I really enjoy it. I ride with the Apple Dumpling Gang and I am in the Trail Assistance Group. I enjoy volunteering for the various club functions. I retired from WE-Energies in 2007 and have had a fishing guide business since Julaine has her own beauty salon. I was the Southeastern Wisconsin Sponsor Chairman for Ducks Unlimited for several years and served on several D.U. committees. I also was the Secretary/Treasurer for The Eagle River Guides Association for 8 years and ran the Kids and Guides Day in Eagle River for 4 years. I will work with the other officers and directors to make the best decisions for our club. Treasurer Ed Siergiej I have accepted the nomination of the election committee to run for one more year as your treasurer. I am looking forward in working with the other elected officers and directors as our club remains the largest in the state of Wisconsin. Snowmobiling is an important part of the success of our community. Once again I ask for your support. Secretary Kay Schultz Another election is upon us and I am running for secretary for a third time. I still don t snowmobile, but I realize how the sport has helped build St. Germain into the community that it is today. That has happened due to the efforts of the Bo-Boen Club. As secretary, I will continue to help keep the club the largest and best in the state which in turn will help keep St. Germain the great snowmobiling destination that it is. Director Dave Walker My name is Dave Walker and I have accepted the nomination for Board of Directors. I started coming to St. Germain for snowmobiling in 1980 and immediately loved the area. I am originally from the Quincy, IL area where my wife, Judy and I had a Crop Production business. We have had a home in the area since 2004 and moved to St. Germain in I started my love for snowmobiling in the 1980 s while I worked for a farmer who was also a Moto- Ski dealer. After moving to this area, we purchased Charlie Vogel s Arrowhead Groomer business in I feel with my interest in snowmobiling, grooming, and enthusiasm for promoting this area I would enjoy the opportunity to serve and promote the Bo- Boen Snowmobile Club which serves a big purpose to the St. Germain area. Thank you for considering me. Director Don Bauman I am retired and moved here 8 years ago and a member of the club for the past 10 years. I have been snowmobiling since We purchased a 1969 Olympic ski do for ice fishing, it didn t take long and it was not used much. The next year two more skidoos were purchased an Elan and Nordic 18 track so the kids could ride with us. Our family grew up snowmobiling and it truly was a family affair. Also in 1970 we joined one of the first snowmobile clubs in Wisconsin, the Paul Bunyan Riders of Lakewood Wisconsin, We were members for many years. Our first drag was bedsprings. I accept the nomination for Director. I believe I can bring experience to the board working with volunteers and a volunteer. Fund raising is one of our goals. I also believe we are on the right trail to replace equipment as it ages. We have to stay ahead of the game to be #1 in our trail system. The town and our businesses cannot afford to be left behind. I am happy to say I was a volunteer with the best volunteer organization ever, Ducks Unlimited. I volunteered for 20 years as State Sponsor Print Chairman, Zone Chairman and a Trustee from Wisconsin to the National Convention for 4 years. A past director for Primetimers Inc. At present a member of the St. Germain Lakes Committee representing Big St. Germain Lake and take water samples and clarity readings for the DNR. I am also St. Germain s Animal Control Officer. In closing I feel I can be of value to the club with my background of Volunteerism and working with people. I ask for your support and vote. Remember the strongest words ever spoken in the clubs history UNITED WE TRAIL, DIVIDED WE FAIL. Director Milt Klingsporn I've enjoyed serving on the club's board of directors these past three years and hope to continue for another term. Besides the basic director duties, I have spent volunteer time at the Radar Run and trail brushings. As a DNR snowmobile safety instructor I have also been on the staff of our annual safety class. I look forward to working with the officers and other directors to continue making the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club one that you, the members, and the community of St. Germain, can be proud of. As the largest snowmobile club in Wisconsin, Bo-Boen is an asset to both the sport of snowmobiling and the community of St. Germain. Besides serving on the Bo-Boen Board of Directors I am also a commissioner on our lake s District Board, and the president of the St. Germain PrimeTimers. I believe in working to keep St. Gemain a vibrant and attractive community. Thank you for your consideration and your vote. Director Jim Rybarczyk I moved to St. Germain in 2008 after retiring from being a Union electrician for 42 years. Began snowmobiling that year and can't get enough of it. I am a member of the trail assistances for the past 6 years and have volunteered at numerous club events. It would be an honor to be able to give my input to club decision making, and keep our Bo-Boen Club the biggest and the best snowmobile club in the state. I would appreciate your vote.

9 Apple Dumpling Gang Overnight Trip This year s Dumpling overnight trip took place February to the Keweenaw Peninsula in the snowy U.P. of Michigan. We had a total of 16 riders when we left, and all 16 arrived back home safely, which is always the goal. We were met at all our stops by Bob Schell and Gary Shambo, who trailered their sleds to Hancock to ride. Our destination hotel was the Ramada Inn in Hancock which is just across the lift bridge from Houghton and was well liked by the group. Good location for anyone planning a future trip with large gas station nearby, located directly on the trail, and it has a pool, sauna, hot tub, good restaurant and lounge. They are use to a lot of sledders and even have rags you can use to wipe down your sled. A Yamaha dealership that services all makes is directly across the street. We had 9 people ride their sleds up to the casino in Watersmeet, MI. and spend the night the day before our actual trip started. The rest of us trailered our sleds to Watersmeet the morning of our trip start, and we all left from there at 8:30 A.M. Just 122 scenic miles later we arrived at the Ramada Inn. Along the way we stopped at the famous Hoppy s Bar in Kenton and had lunch at Krupp s in Twin Lake. Another short stop at the Mosquito Bar and we were there. Day two took us all over the Keweenaw north of Hancock from one side to the other including up Brockway Mountain Drive, lighthouse overlook at Eagle Harbor, nice lunch in Copper Harbor, rode north of Copper Harbor where the land meets Lake Superior, gassed up in Lac la Belle and made it back to our cozy hotel in time for Happy Hour and the hot tub & sauna combo along with dinner. On day three we made good time on the way home, leaving the Ramada at 9 A.M. local time and arriving back at the Watersmeet casino for lunch 99 miles later at 12:30 Wisconsin time. We used the Bill Nicholl s trail and trail 3, which is quite beautiful and crosses 3 railroad bridges that are way above the tree tops. We covered approximately 400 miles in total and it was a great time. I would like to thank Mike McCormick who was our trail leader and performed his usual excellent job. Gary Groff Apple Dumpling President
