Box San Luis Obispo, CA On the web at: Christi Winter Anita Smith Tom Williams The group was founded June 6, Monthly membership meetings are normally held on the 4 th Thursday of the month (except for the November and December meetings) at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Animal Care Clinic 162 Cross Street (off Tank Farm Road) in San Luis Obispo. The CCTHA Board of Directors meets at 6:00 p.m. at the March, June, September and December meetings. Guests are always welcome. Dues are $25 per individual, and $35 for families. Dues are due at the January meeting. Membership is forfeited if not paid by the March Meeting. The Search Coil Page 1 3/18/19

2 CENTRAL COAST TREASURE HUNTERS ASSOCIATION Meeting of Thursday, February 28 th, 2019 GENERAL MEETING The General Meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. by President Eric Martinez. Flag Salute: President Martinez led the flag salute to begin the meeting. Minutes: The motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes of the January meeting as printed in the February Search Coil. Membership: Our total paid-up membership at the end of the December meeting was 45. There were 24 members and 2 guests present at the February meeting. Guests were Pam Bowers (Larry Royal s fiancée), and (former member) Gary Manninen. As of the beginning of the February meeting, 27 folks have renewed their membership. Dues are $25 for an individual. Treasury: Christy Winter brought the coins for the Mystery draw, Find of the Month, and Raffle. Christy read the Treasurer s Report and it was accepted as presented. stated that we now have enough silver coins to last year (barring a large increase in membership!) Recycle: announced that recycling was building. Find of the Month: There were 11 Show and Tell displays at the February meeting. Each displayer was awarded a raffle ticket. (See page 4 for specific results of the Find of the Month competition). and Tom Williams counted the Find of the Month ballots. The ballots and tally sheet are available for review for six months the votes are cast. Sunshine: Our good wishes and prayers go out to Katrina Swanson who went into heart surgery the day after our February meeting. We also send outtr good thoughts to Roland Smith who had a bad reaction to a tick bite. I received this from Katrina on March 13: Hi Wayne. I want to thank you for your call, and thank the group for the card. Tonight is the first night I've been able to stay awake long enough to respond to s. I've been bedridden. Bill does a good job cooking and taking care of me but I'm in a dark place right now. Anyone wanting our good thoughts (for good or bad occurrences), please let Anita Smith and know. Raffle:, announced that he had 14 silver prizes for the evening s raffle. Ten of the prizes consist of a silver quarter and 2 silver (Mercury) dimes. Four of the prizes were silver half dollars. See results on page 3. IOU s were issued for the silver half dollars that were not brought for the February Raffle. Quarterly Hunt: Our next Quarterly Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 30 at 9:00 am. The hunt will be held at our normal location at the end of Park Street in Pismo Beach. Members are asked to show-up about 8:30 to plant and we will hopefully have coils up by 9-9:30 am. After the hunt, we will gather for lunch at about 10:30 am at the Station Grill near the end of Grand Avenue in Grover Beach. Scavenger Hunt: The December to April Scavenger Hunt is posted on our website, and is in our December Newsletter. Members are encouraged to participate what do you have to lose? You could gain a silver half dollar for items or a silver round or silver dollar for all 15 items. The new hunt ends at our April 25 meeting. The Search Coil Page 2 3/18/19

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned about 8:13 p.m. by President Martinez. Next Meeting: Our next Board Meeting will be held Thursday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Animal Care Clinic. Junctions of old roads (Crossroads) forest Plea to solve Welsh beach 'coin tree' mystery BBC news 2/18/ A couple have asked for help to solve the mystery of how a coin-studded tree trunk appeared on a south Wales beach. The length of a trunk is covered in battered British coins, all wedged into the wood. It was spotted by Rowli and Pat Rees during a walk in Mumbles, Swansea, near Blackpill, Wales. There is speculation the trunk could be part of a centuries-old tradition of 'wishing trees' - where coins are driven into a tree to bring good luck. The practice has been recorded all over the British Isles for hundreds of years - from the Irish Republic to the Scottish Highlands. REES Rowli Rees said: "It's been battered and it is really a bit of driftwood. My only thought is it's been brought down by a river, maybe?" The last noted coin-tree to appear in Wales was at Portmeirion in Snowdonia, where a fallen tree and several trunks were studded with two-pence pieces.
