1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating 50 years of Snowmobiling! Volume Number 8 March 2019 President s Message Tom Nampel Well we have plenty of snow now. So much that it collapsed the roof on the back half of the groomer barn. Two of the groomers were in the barn at the me. They got them out with minimal damage and are back out grooming again. Thanks to everyone that worked on ge ng them out and going again. This will be my last ar cle as president. My two year term is up. The last two years seemed to fly by. It was a good me. I would like to thank the Board of Directors for making my job easy and enjoyable. We had the Radar Run in February. The a endance was the biggest yet. Thank you to Bob Ozzie Ausloos and all of the volunteers who work on the parking. It was a big undertaking. Thank you to Steve Soltwedel and all of the volunteers that worked in the food and beer tents. A great job by everyone. We also had the Arrowhead Groomer Show. Thank you again Steve Soltwedel and all of the volunteers that worked the food venue there. Great job. The trails are in perfect condi on so get out and enjoy them. Remember to ride safe and ride right. Tom Trail Boss Jim Wendt WOW, the snow gods have really shined on the Bo-Boens!!!!! This is just what the doctor ordered. With the strong ice base we have we should be able to make it well into March for late season riding. We con nue to groom a full schedule and from the comments we are ge ng, riders are apprecia ng our efforts. In life, doesn t it some mes feel like you take two steps forward and then take one back. Well, we took one really large one back this past week when the en re roof on the north end of the building collapsed from snow load. Thank God no one was in the building when it came down. Both Tucker 1 and our tractor were buried under the rubble. Our groomer barn is a Town owned building that we lease for $1.00 for a 20 year period so we have no exposure for damage or loss. Our groomers are covered by an insurance policy through the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance for damages less deduc bles. The Town called in Waldmann Construc on who immediately began recovery efforts. Thank heaven for Brad and his crew. Within two days we were able to pull our machines out of the rubble to assess the damage. We sustained minimal damage and a er a careful examina on, the machines were put back in service. Some broken components and bent fixtures along with broken wiring were the major extent of our damage. A big thank you to: Track Inc. for the use of a demo Tucker to avoid missing a shi. Lulich Implement had a tractor on a trailer if we needed it for the very first night. We double shi ed the Tucker to avoid them having to bring a replacement tractor. Arrowhead Groomers (Dave Walker) provided heated space for equipment evalua on and space for our tractor in the interim. My groomer drivers were down there helping move ar cles out of the mess to the other side of the barn as needed. I also want to thank neighboring clubs for offering their assistance. We are truly an alliance and it really shows when a club gets into trouble. I can t say enough about our suppliers as they stepped up to help in any way possible to keep our opera on running. A er all this, we missed just one run! Quite a testament to our dedicated staff and vendors. I can only shout out a huge THANK YOU for everyone s efforts to keep the club opera onal. We are fully opera onal! I will provide updates as they become available. Un l then, I hope you enjoy riding your world class trail system provided by the best staff of drivers on the planet! Happy Trails! Jim
2 Candidate Statements President Steve Soltwedel I have served as President-Elect for the past two years and have accepted the commi ee s nomina on to run for President. I am honored and excited to become president and to work with the other elected officers and board to keep our club s reputa on as the provider of the best trails in the area and the largest club in the state. I appreciate your support for this elec on and for the upcoming year. President Elect Bob Ozzie Ausloos I have been snowmobiling since the very early 1970 s. I became ac ve in snowmobile clubs in the mid 80 s by holding a variety of offices from being a director through the treasurer s posi on, and finally being president. My job became more demanding and I could no longer find the me to be an officer, but we con nued to volunteer at fundraisers etc. We purchased a co age in St Germain in 1998 and joined the Bo-Boen Club at that me. Peg and I have been members of two clubs for most of our snowmobiling career. Anyone can join a club, but to really belong, you must be ac ve. I am recently re red and feel that I can now afford more me to the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club. I am asking for your vote as President-Elect. Treasurer Ed Siergiej I have accepted the nomina on of the elec on commi ee to run for another year as your treasurer. I am looking forward in working with the other elected officers and directors as our club remains the largest in the State of Wisconsin. Snowmobiling is an important part of the success of our community. Once again I ask for your support. Secretary Kay Schultz I can t believe that I am finishing my 6 th year as secretary. As many of you know, I s ll do not snowmobile But! I s ll believe that snowmobiling is an essen al part of the northwoods economy and will do everything that I can to help keep it strong and keep our club the biggest and the best in Wisconsin. Along with the usual du es of the secretary, I fold and mail the hard copy newsle ers, help out with the past pig roasts, sell raffle ckets, and organize the 7 membership dinners that the club has every month from September through March. These dinners have grown from members a ending to 75 to 118 a ending our last Christmas party. Thank you in advance for your support. Director Paul Bohnen Director Dianne Dieter As I write this, the snow depth is higher than our porch! I guess my snow dance really worked this year. I am running for the board of directors because I want to assist the club in maintaining our incredible groomed trails. Since 1972 I have been involved with the establishment of the sport of snowmobiling. When it was being formed, I served as President and Secretary of the Kenosha County Snowmobile Alliance. When we re red to St. Germain in 2002 I con nued that involvement serving as a Director for the Bo-Boen Club, chairing the Bo-Boen Radar Run Food service, riding with the Women on Snow Tour event, assis ng at the Pig Roast, and volunteering for the Student Safety Commi ee. When asked what are my hobbies, there is one word snowmobiling. It is my passion. As your director, I will work diligently with the club to assure that the Bo-Boen s have the tools necessary to have these beau ful trails. Director Gary Groff I have accepted the nomina on to run for a second 3-year term as a director on the Bo-Boen board. I enjoy working with the other board members and volunteering for as many of the club ac vi es as I can fit into my schedule. Kathy and I have made many friends in the St. Germain and Eagle River area since re ring here in 2009, but none are more friendly or community spirit minded than the Bo- Boen members. They are such a fine asset to the area providing an excellent trail system and bringing many winter tourists to town where they are sorely needed to establish a winter economy. I have served on many church boards, including being Vice President of our 1,200 member church in Lower Michigan prior to re rement. I grew up on the Lake Huron side of Lower Michigan, graduated from Alpena Community College with a AAS Degree (Electronics Tech), then served 6 years in the US Navy Nuclear Power Program, most of which was spent on the USS Enterprise. Upon honorable discharge, I gained employment for 34 years at Palisades Nuclear Power Plant on Lake Michigan. Most of those years I was a licensed control room operator. I would appreciate your vote, so I could con nue to work with the other officers and directors to make snowmobiling in the St. Germain area the best it can be.
3 St. Germain Radar Run Parking Do you ever wonder how all of these vehicles and snowmobiles can get on the lake in an orderly fashion? Because of these volunteers! Peggy Ausloos Larry Chamberlain Roger Klein Jim Rybarczyk Ozzie Ausloos Don DeWig Bill Krueger Shaun Savel Don Baumann Sue DuBore Milt Klingsporn Bob Schell Roger Behm Jim DuBore Tom Nampel Tim Schwulst Ken Beno Gary Groff Judy Pacanowski Jerry Verseman Chris Boz Bosworth Bob Johnson Paul Petersen Dave Brown Jim Kelsey Jay Pritzl Secretary s Report Kay Schultz Thank you to all for your snow dances and/or songs, but now you can stop for a while. A er a slow start to the season, we have received about 24 of snow over the past week. The trees are hanging down from the weight of the snow on them and the northwoods is in its full winter splendor. Hope you can all get up here to see it for yourself. On Tuesday, February 12 th, we had our monthly membership dinner at Clearview. Despite the 12 of snow on the ground and it s ll coming down, we had 71 brave people a end the dinner. Thanks to all the Clearview Crew Kris, Connie, Violet, Angie, Chris ne and the kitchen crew for the great food and evening and understanding for all the cancella ons due to the weather. Volunteer Help Needed Snowmobile Roundup The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club will again be providing food service for the Memorial Day weekend Hall of Fame Snowmobile Roundup. This year in addition to volunteers to work that day, we are in need of one or two persons willing to act as co-chairs for the event. Both of the past two chairpersons will not be in the St. Germain area during the weeks leading up to the event. We need chairs to solicit volunteers and organize work groups. The ordering of food and supplies will be done by Steve Soltwedel, remotely. If you are able to accept this position, please call Steve Soltwedel at Additionally anyone wishing to volunteer in advance to work that day can call Steve anytime. Lets continue our great tradition of volunteer support for this event.
