St. Germain Bo-Boen Newsletter 40th Anniversary Volume Number 8 April 2010 Past-President s Message Tom Christensen Our season is over and I hope that everyone enjoyed their riding time this past winter. Looking forward to next year, maybe the El Nino will be gone and we will have decent snowfall. A fellow snowmobiler told me years ago to watch the hurricanes to see if they are coming into the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. When the El Nino is strong, it has the tendency to keep the hurricanes out in the Atlantic Ocean. We all know that when the El Nino is strong, we do not get very much snow. When the El Nino is weak or not there at all, the hurricanes tend to come into the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico resulting in greater snow fall for us. Every year, we are able to open up our trails because of a group of people that allow us to use their property. Without our generous landowners, we would not have the wonderful trails that we do. So once again I would like to say thank you to all of our landowners. Please take the time to personally thank them as you see them throughout the year. Over the summer months, we have two fund raisers. On Memorial Day weekend we serve food at the Classic Sled Roundup hosted by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and then in August we have the 14th Annual Pig Roast at Sportsman s Chalet. Both of these events are fun to participate in and are a great time to meet other snowmobilers. I hope to see you at both of these events this summer. This is our last newsletter of this season. So for now we say goodbye and we will see you all next season. Thank you for your support, Tom Christensen Club Raffle Winners Thank you to everyone who purchased and sold tickets for our annual club raffle. Special thanks again go out to Glenn & Donna Miller of Bauer s Dam, Gary & Laurel Frank at Sportsman's Chalet for selling an exceptional amount of tickets. Our net profit will be around $2,000 this year. Winning tickets were drawn at our last membership meeting on March 9 th. Congratulations go out to the following winners: 1 st Prize $2,500 Steve Pulec (Twilight Bar) St. Germain, WI 2 nd Prize $1,500 Joan Crawford Libertyville, IL/St. Germain, WI 3 rd Prize $500 Mark Wallen St. Germain, WI 4 th Prize $250 Ronald Malenck Eagle River, WI 5 th Prize $250 Joyce Seideman St. Germain, WI For next season s raffle we are looking for a new sponsor for the cost of printing the raffle tickets. The tickets are printed over the summer. If any business is interested, please contact Ed Siergiej at (715) before the end of May.

It is a great relief to know that these arrangements are all taken care of. As always, this day is a lot of fun; however it is a lot of hard work. Thank you to everyone that helped out getting ready for the race, race day events and clean up afterward. Finally, thank you to the St. Germain Fire Department and the Town of St. Germain. Without their cooperation and support, we would not be able to have this race. Tom Christensen Event Coordinator
Trail Boss Report Jim Wendt Well gang, the season is over! WOW to be in this position by early March is really bad. This is the time we locals get to enjoy our fabulous trail system. This has been three March's in a row that have been really bad for late season riding. The way I see it, that makes 3 strikes and you're out Mother Nature!!!!! Start fresh next year, ol girl! I hope you all were able to squeeze out as much winter fun as possible this season. All in all, our trails were in great shape with little snow, a lot of traffic, and if we were even able to groom. I hope you were proud of the work of your grooming staff this season and hope you will continue to be appreciative of our efforts next year. There are a lot of special people I want to thank for a great year. First off are 3 business owners who always can be counted on for going the extra mile with support of food, donations, and events just for the Bo-Boen s Steve Pulec from the Twilight Bar, Fritz Richter from the Thunderbird Pass, and Gary & Laurel Frank from Sportsmen s Chalet. These people were responsible for nearly $4, in funds and products given to the club!!! We need more support like this!!! THANKS... Thanks to Pam Gebhardt for my newsletter deadline chasing and editing I look forward to many years of working with her. Thanks to Bruce and Dave Weber for the maintenance day doughnuts the boys really appreciated them. Thanks to the Town of St. Germain for the route approvals, assistance with filling ditches, and help with race track setup. Thanks to the St. Germain Fire and Rescue Department for Vintage Race day help. Thanks to Hank & Jeanne Kosanda for their sign work I really appreciate it! A huge thanks to my partner, Jennifer Couch for putting up with the time I spend doing what I really love doing, (and the phone calls at 3 in the morning, too). Thanks to our valued landowners who support us with the unselfish use of their property for the greatest trail system in the north. And last of all, thanks to my driver staff who are soooo dedicated as well as putting up with taking orders from this broken down old groomer driver - I really appreciate your efforts and dedication to our program...al Clemmensen, Tom Marks, Mike Zainer, John Vojta, Jim Safford, Andy Skarbeck, Gary Jacobi, Todd Wiese, Ty Trapp, Mike McCormick, Tim Gebhardt, Adam Ruenger, Troy Schalinske, Frank Lawrence, Steve Hausner, and Matt Verseman. You guys made my job easier with your dedication and commitment to our program. Please know how much I appreciate you and your efforts!!!!!! For now, I wish the very best off season for you and your family. I can't wait for the next edition of Bo- Boen trails '10 - '11. God bless you and the USA!!! Jim Rich Polaski foot surgery Lillian Kerr Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, Phelps for a rehabilitation stay while healing. Judy Berard is recovery after knee surgery. Please call Arlene Rieckenberg when you have information on births, of members who are ill or hospitalized and need a bit of cheer, sympathy or encouragement. AWSC Convention March 2010 In-Coming President, Doug Johnson and the Out-Going President, Bill Schuman congratulate Jim Wendt for St. Germain Bo-Boen s on being the State of Wisconsin s Largest Club!
The Trail Assistance program added several new members during the season. Thanks to Jim & Sue Dubore, Gary Schultz and Todd & Wanda Wiese for joining the group. Several members of the group provided on-site assistance at the Polar Bear Plunge, Radar Run and Vintage Race. They are as follows: Ken Beno, Craig Callies, Jim & Sue Dubore, Jack Gardner, Jim & Donna Harold, Mike McCormick, Don Richards, Jim Rybarczyk, Gary Schultz and Gary & Geri Shambo. Thank you to these folks as well as to our other members who rode the trails and provided help to those in need. Your efforts are appreciated. Apple Dumpling Gang Bob Schnell The Apple Dumplings finished their 27 th year of Wednesday riding on February 24 th with a ride ending at Bauer s Dam and the Log Cabin in Conover. It was a good year of riding considering the lack of new snow later in the season. We rode just over a combined group total of 20,000 miles over 11 straight weeks including a three-day overnight to Baraga and Big Bay, Michigan. We had as many as 28 riders on some rides and enjoyed mostly good to excellent trails. We will start our season on November 6 th with a kickoff dinner at the Golden Pines. Anyone wishing to ride with us should contact me at Have a good summer. Bob The names for the Mt Arvon overnight photo for left to right are Gary Shambo, Dennis Dieter, Bob Schell, Gordy Moore, Steve Soltwedel, Dave Zielenski, Jim DeBore, Milt Klingsporn, Roger Klein,Mike McCormick,Don Richards and Don Strait. Steve Strait took the photo and Gary Schultz was not in the picture Apple Dumpling Gang St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club is seeking fans! How many Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club fans can we locate on Facebook? We re 500 strong and growing daily! Please promote the club's page and "Suggest to Friends", share photos and comments, "Like" entries and more!
Pam Gebhardt As I sit and write my column, I am reminded that spring is right around the corner the yellow finch are in my feeder and I have daffodils rearing there heads... where did snowmobile season go? It sure was fun while it lasted! Our family had the opportunity to hit trails outside our area this winter and I have to say there s no place like home! Without each and every one of us and the support we give to this club, these wonderful trails wouldn't be possible. THANK YOU! THANK YOU I would also like to thank Judy Pacanowski, our former secretary for making my new position so easy to step into. I have really BIG shoes to fill and I m thankful you re only an away! Budget At the April there will be an opportunity for the membership to review the proposed budget for Any member that would like a copy of the proposed budget can request one from our Treasurer, Ed Siergiej (715) or ed@siergiej.us. The budget for will be voted on by the board at our May meeting. Our budget year runs June 1 May 31. Go Green! Get your newsletter faster online and save the club money too! If you d like to receive your newsletter online, please gebhardt@hughes.net ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a non-resident trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state. A two year Wisconsin registration is $30.00, compared to two trail passes at $70.00 for two years. Almost two times the money is generated with a two year registration as is with two trail passes due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund; the state snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin registration instead of a trail pass, you save $40.00 every two years and contribute more money to the state fund. It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website. Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border.
