1 Volume II, Issue VII, March, 2015 Kon Wapos Spring Fellowship Most things have periods that are busy, and others that aren t: think of school right before then after a test or project presentation. The same is true in Scouting, but on a larger scale. The Scouting year starts in September and we start off rolling with Section Conclave and Fall Rendezvous; two Lodge events in the first two months. Then what. November through March are just Lodge Executive Committee meetings, District Klondikes, maybe a Chapter holiday party or fellowship event. But in general, fairly slow and relaxed. Then all of a sudden, BAM! Spring Fellowship is right there around the corner! That s where we are now. In one month s time, we will be gathering at Bear Paw Scout Camp for the first of two lodge Centennial events! Spring Fellowship is chocked full of excitement: Vigil Callout, Brotherhood Ceremony, fellowship, games, activities, and an LEC! Not only that, but NOAC 2015, Centennial, and the 2015 activity set patches will be released. If you are attending NOAC, there is a mandatory contingent meeting that weekend as well- stay tuned to the Lodge Facebook page for more information. But wait. There s more! Because this is a Centennial event, it s also the first opportunity to earn the Arrowman Service Award! The only patch authorized for wearing directly on the OA sash! It s going to be a great time for everyone, and I hope to see you all there! If you haven t done so already, register at and check out the Facebook event at events/ / for up to date information. 2 ly Thoughts My Brothers, It s starting to begin to maybe look like spring outside! Or.maybe the groundhog was right and we will have another six weeks of winter. I don t know about you, but I am ready for warm weather and camping! There are several events coming up in the next couple months: Lodge Leadership Development (3/21-22), Spring Fellowship (4/24-26), and Spring Conferences (5/2931, 6/5-7). These events are great opportunities to develop and refine leadership skills, bond with other Arrowmen from across the lodge, and provide Cheerful Service to our Council camps. At the Spring Conferences, scouts and scouters have the opportunity to complete their Ordeal, Arrowmen have the opportunity to seal their membership by completing their Brotherhood, and some Arrowmen will have the opportunity to reconfirm their obligation and dedication to the Order by keeping their Vigil. There will be an opportunity for Arrowmen to seal their membership at Spring Fellowship, along with the Vigil Callout Ceremony. With all of these opportunities for inductions, there s no excuse for not partaking in the festivities. I encourage each and every one of you to look within yourself and seek the Spirit of the Arrow, and to seal your membership at either Spring Fellowship or Spring Conference. You can only get out of the Order as what you put in to it. I look forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming events. See you on the trail! Preston Podolske, Kon Wapos Lodge OA High Adventure Proud doesn't begin to describe my feelings when my son related stories of his OA Trail Crew adventure. In a short two weeks he had an experience that literally transformed his life. They had moved boulders, cut trees and shoveled dirt. They built a small section of trail that would be used for many years to come and they were felt a great sense of accomplishment. They slid down snow on shovels, watched fireworks on top of Baldy and experienced the beauty of the Philmont backcountry on a trek that was unique to their crew. If there's ever any question about the value of these programs, or if there's any question if we should encourage more young men to participate, consider my son who says -without hesitation- that OA Trail Crew and OA Wilderness Voyage were THE BEST TIMES OF HIS LIFE!

3 Lodge Adviser s Minute This Centennial year of the Order of the Arrow is shaping up to be special. There are going to be a number of opportunities that you can participate in. Last month, I mentioned the theme for the National Order of the Arrow Conference. It Starts With Us. Just as a single pebble can start a ripple in the pond with successive ripples spreading out from there, each of us can be that pebble, causing a ripple that spreads among others by our brotherhood, cheerfulness and service. I d like to continue sharing some ideas on how you can cause a ripple of your own. Kon Wapos Lodge Bay-Lakes Council #635 WI-MI Lodge Calendar 2015 Kon Wapos Lodge is planning centennial activities at lodge events this year. Spring Fellowship and Fall Rendezvous are some of the lodge centennial events. We are also hosting one of the ArrowTour stops in July at Bear Paw. Watch for more details. We will need some help planning and preparing for that special event. There will be a special Section Conclave in September at Camp Phillips in northwest Wisconsin. Some of our lodge officers will be heading to Camp Phillips next month to continue planning the conclave with leaders from the other lodges in our section. They are working on a fantastic program of fun and fellowship. Look for more information later this spring and summer. All of these events and the upcoming spring conferences, to be held in May and June at five of our camps, will need many Arrowmen to plan, prepare and participate. We will be welcoming new Ordeal members and providing service to our camps. Each of your ripples of help will combine with others to cause a wave of positive action for service to Scouting. Connect with your chapter chief, committee chairs, advisers and offer to help. There s a great recognition patch you can earn that can be worn proudly on your OA sash. Mike Mailand, Kon Wapos Lodge Adviser Staff Adviser s Minute If you haven t seen the , Facebook, or other posts about Lodge Leadership Development (LLD) is just around the corner. We will be coming together Saturday evening of March 21 for some Fellowship time. The LLD sessions will begin Sunday morning after a lite breakfast and Scouts Own Service. We will end our time together with our Lodge Executive Committee meeting. For everyone that doesn t know what LLD is, this is a time for the youth leadership of the lodge to come together have some training so they can better serve the lodge in their role, set goals, and get to know our fellow Arrowmen better. That being said, this is not just limited to our current Lodge and Chapter Officers and Chairmen. If you are need to the Order and want to learn more about the Lodge or think you would like to be an officer or chairmen in the Lodge or Chapter this is a great event for you. Had a total of 2 or 3 ceremonies meetings so far, Thanks to staff that helped at Klondike. February newsletter will be sent out through . 5 Ceremonies 2015 Golden Arrow Members Hello fellow Arrowmen. As you well know, ceremonies season is fast approaching. Please remember that the new brotherhood ceremony must be used and to get your ceremonies teams formed and ready to present the ceremonies at the high level they deserve to be presented at. As a reminder, Ordeal Ceremonies will no longer be held at summer camp, so be prepared for a larger number of Ordeal candidates at your spring and fall events.
