2 WORSHIP This is Fr. Mark s last week at Holy Name, and we send him off with sadness to see him go, but even more with well wishes for a truly happy and healthy retirement!! He is staying in the area, so we will get to see him on occasion. Fr. Mark, we wish you only the best as you enter this new chapter in your life, and we thank you for all you have done to make Holy Name the wonderful and welcoming Parish that it is!! You are invited to a parish Meet and Greet get-together at the social center next weekend for Fr. David Aufiero, who comes to us from St. Mark s Parish in Pittsfield. There will be two opportunities to meet Fr. Dave, the first being after the 4:30p.m. Mass next Saturday, and the second on Sunday after the 10:30a.m. Mass. Please join us in welcoming him to Holy Name. He is very much looking forward to meeting all of you! Refreshments will be served. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Wednesday, August 15 th, is the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, and it is a holy day of obligation. Mass will be celebrated at 8:15a.m. and 5:30p.m. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Vocations The divine presence is often symbolized in the bread and wine, water, oil, candles, fire and light. However, each of us must be a living sign and symbol of God s presence within us. If you are willing to witness Christ with your life as a priest or religious, Fr. Matt or Fr. Thank God for the Little Things Thank you, God, for little things that often come our way, the things we take for granted but don t mention when we pray. The unexpected courtesy, the thoughtful, kindly deed, a hand reached out to touch us in the time of sudden need. 3 Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. STEWARDSHIP Collections for & July 28 & 29, 2018 total $7,184.12! We truly appreciate your continuing support! Annual Catholic Appeal Most Recent Update Since our last update we gained an additional donor totaling 234 from Holy Name. The total raised from our parish is now at $46, We sincerely thank you for your generosity. Visiting Missionary THANK YOU Fr. Geejo Joseph Pattath, V.C., and all the Vincentian missionaries thank you for your prayers and generous mission offering last weekend. Your offerings will help them to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities in their missions and will help them to educate young men studying for the priesthood. If you didn t have an opportunity to make an offering or would like to make an additional offering, you may make your offering through the general parish collection. Please put this in a specially marked envelope to differentiate it from the regular weekly offering. Thank you very much for your generous support. OPEN PANTRY DONATIONS They are in need of the following food items: Oatmeal or hot cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. 4 Would you like to add a brick to the Holy Name Memorial Walk? What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone special. It could be a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any special occasion. It could be a memorial for a loved one or someone dear who has passed. This is a tribute which will be here for a very long time. Due to the complexity of the installation, all bricks must be ordered and installed at one time. We are able to accept requests for the next group to be installed later this year until the deadline of Friday, August 31st. Please call Ann at the rectory office, , to receive a form. (All bricks ordered last year were installed at the parking lot entrance on the edge on either side walking up to the church.) SERVICE Sr. Melinda is seeking more volunteers to fill bags of goodies for the homeless. Please call her at , ext. 130 for details if you can help. Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. Mark, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. EDUCATION RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We Need You! (Yes, You!) Please consider sharing your faith with the youth of our Parish. Assistance at all levels is needed. We need catechists, classroom aids and substitutes. Join us this fall we all have something to offer! Registration forms for all grades (K-11) are available at all entrances of the church and at the Rectory. Please note: Students attending Parochial School (St. Michael s, Cathedral, etc.) must register with the Religious Education Office and attend classes to receive the sacrament of First Communion or Confirmation. Classes beginning in September. Details to follow in future bulletins. HOLY NAME EVENTS Back By Popular Demand. It s the NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP A one day bus trip to New York City is planned for Saturday, September 22, The bus will leave the Holy Name parking lot at 7:30a.m. and depart New York City at 6:30p.m. Enjoy shopping, museums and art galleries, a walk in Central Park, St. Patrick s Cathedral, Grant s Tomb, and much, much more! 5 OTHER EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES Fund for St. Michael s Academy Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We want to thank you, Holy Name parishioners, for partnering with us in advancing the mission of St. Michael s Academy this past year. Thanks to your incredible support, 400 donors raised over $130,000. Many of you made multiple gifts to The Fund for SMA and we sincerely appreciate your generosity. Thank you for investing in our children s education and their future. St. Michael s Academy, a pre-school-grade 8 Catholic school in Springfield, seeks a part-time Finance Assistant to record payments for the before and after school program and to assist with other bookkeeping functions. The work schedule is 8 to 10 hours per week on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays. The candidate must have previous bookkeeping experience, strong attention to detail and organizational skills. C3 Forest Park Police Squad Weekly Meetings Open to Everyone at the Holy Name Social Center on Thursdays at 6:00p.m. Join us for informational meetings to form relationships and rebuild the community with unity. Join Our lady of the Lake Church at 224 Sheep Pasture Rd, Southwick on Sunday, August 19th from 12:30 4:30 PM for our annual taste of Germany; it is a delightful event for all ages; Kastle Korner for kids, crafts and games. Bavarian and conventional foods and drink are available. Donations are $2 per person, children to age 17 free, food and beverages sold separately. Raffle tickets will be available after Masses. First prize $500; second prize $150; third prize $50 gas card. The cost of raffle tickets are: $4 per ticket or 3 for $10. The Raffle drawing will be on August 19; you need not be present to win. The Wild Goose Bible Study is coming to Sacred Heart Parish in Feeding Hills. Discover a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. This is a DVD study with no written homework, this is a study that is solely spirit filled; that will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace and presence. Along with the study we will have Praise and Worship Music Ministry with Sinergy Praise with Joe and Rosa Lamothe to bring us further into prayerfulness; when we sing his praises, we are praying twice! The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month starting August 13th from 6:30 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. There is no charge for this bible study and everyone is welcome to come. A free will offering would be graciously appreciated to offset any costs. The sixth annual Faith on Fire Catholic Rally that will be held on our beautiful grounds of Sacred Heart Parish, 1061 Springfield Street in Feeding Hills on August 16th and 17 th, from 6pm 9pm. Our evenings will consist of Praise and Worship music, Eucharistic Procession, Reconciliation, opportunity for extra prayer under the prayer tent and Prayers for healing. We will have four main speakers and lay witness speakers to inspire you. The Faith on Fire committee and Saint Martha s Guild will provide food for purchase. Please bring a lawn chair and or blankets for comfortable seating. God promised that for where two or more are gathered I am there among you. Irish Language Classes for Fall Irish language classes offered by the Irish Cultural Center of Western New England and Elms College begin late August/early September, with levels ranging from beginner through advanced. Classes take place at Elms College in Chicopee, MA. For class times, cost and more information on enrolling, call the Elms College Registrar at or visit our website at St. Francis Parish of Belchertown will hold its annual Tag Sale on the Belchertown Common and inside the Parish Social Center on Park Street from 8a.m.-2p.m. on Saturday, August 25 th, rain or shine. Seven large tents and over 100 tables loaded with jewelry, toys, small appliances, furniture, sports items, knick-knacks, antiques, kitchen ware, crafts, linens and more. Clothing items for all ages will be available inside the St. Francis Social Center. Hot beverages and doughnuts will be on sale for the early shoppers. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and beverages will be on sale for lunch. Alpha Is Coming Back to St. Catherine s! Do you ever think about the meaning of life? The reality of evil? What God has to do with it all? Such are the questions we face with a Christian view in ALPHA. Believers come. Non-believers come. The justcurious come. ALPHA opens insights about Jesus, the Bible, the core beliefs of Christianity, and important questions of life and faith. The 2018 ALPHA will be held in the St. Catherine of Siena Parish Center at 1023 Parker Street in Springfield. The course will run for 10 Wednesdays, from 6-8:30PM beginning Wednesday, September 5, 2018: a light supper, a DVD talk by Rev. Nicky Gumbel and good conversation in an open, welcoming environment.
