The celebrations of the mass and the other sacraments are central to our identity as a parochial community which worships God in communion with family, neighbors and friends. Celebrating the Eucharist unites us to be a sign of the Kingdom of God present among us, yet ever growing as a reality, as we follow Christ, proclaiming and witnessing to his Gospel in our lives. Through liturgical worship and the ministries of the Church, we love and serve each other in our service of God. THEREFORE, we the Parish Community of Saint Valentine, are dedicated to serving others within and outside ourselves, as we strive to deepen our own response to the Lord and to announce the Good News of salvation in Christ. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM Please contact the Religious Educa on Office to enroll students. For further information, Parents should contact the Religious Education Office: ( ). SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION The sacramental preparation programs are open only to registered parishioners. Regular worship at Sunday Mass is an obligation. FIRST RECONCILIATION, EUCHARIST & CONFIRMATION The Christian formation of children require regular attendance and disciple in Catechism classes and the growing knowledge of our faith and moral doctrine. CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD Celebrated at the 10 AM. Sunday Mass. After the opening prayer, the children leave the assembly for their own celebration and reflection on the Sunday scriptures. We invite and encourage all children to participate. Check bulletin calendar for schedule. ADULT CATECHUMENATE (RCIA) A faith formation program with various stages of adult Christian initiation. Call the parish office for information. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Baptism is celebrated at Mass on designated Sundays, as noted in bulletin.. Parents should call the parish office: (973) at least two months prior to scheduled dates in order to make arrangements for required preparation. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE The vocation of Marriage is God s call to a man and woman to love each other in a stable relationship. Arrangements should be made with the priest or deacon one year in advance. SOCIAL CONCERNS The St. Valentine s Social Concerns Ministry is compelled by Christ s love and the Gospel message to compassionately respond to the identified needs of our parish community. Basil: (201) who wishes to visit all the homebound elderly or infirmed. MARIAN DEVOTIONS Novena: In honor of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal on Saturdays after the 8:00AM. Mass; Our Mother of Perpetual Help on Wednesdays at 7:30PM. in the chapel. Rosary: Before the 8AM. daily Mass in the chapel and First Wednesday of the month (Sept.-June) at 7 PM. in the church. PARISH REGISTRATION Please formalize your membership in our parish community by registering at the parish office. We invite all who worship regularly to do so. 3 Page Three: Second Sunday of Easter, April 23, 2017 A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners This Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. From a poor family, Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska, an undereducated Polish nun of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy received revelations from Jesus Christ, the King of Divine Mercy. Her diary speaks of visions from Jesus giving his loving message of God s divine mercy. In this Sunday s Gospel from John 20: 19-31, the resurrected Jesus appears to the disciples when they were fearing for their lives, locked in a room afraid that the Jews would come and kill them. When they had no peace of mind, Jesus tells them, Peace be with you. He sends them on a mission to spread the good news, and he breathes on them the Holy Spirit giving them the authority to forgive sins. The disciples realized that with their own strength and efforts, they end up hiding from the world like a bunch of cowards. Instead, Jesus sends them out into world with the strength of the Holy Spirit trusting in God and no longer in themselves. But then, Thomas the Twin was not with them, and he refuses to believe the testimony of the other disciples when they said they had seen the resurrected Jesus. So Jesus appears to them a week later when Thomas was with them. Seeing is believing as what people say, but Jesus tells Thomas, and tells us also, Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. Those with true faith in God, trust in God and not trust in their human senses or feelings. Emotions and feeling are deceptive. Sister Faustina learned to trust in Jesus and not listen to her feelings when he revealed to her supernatural visions of purgatory and hell. Things that would traumatize any of us. Let us not doubt but trust in the God to save us. - Fr. Basil Lek.
