2 WORSHIP On Thursday, November 22nd, at 9:00a.m. we will celebrate our Annual Thanksgiving Day Mass. This has been a long standing tradition at Holy Name Parish. Parishioners are invited to bring food and wine, which will be used at their Thanksgiving Dinner to be blessed at the Mass. This Veterans Day we would like to make a special mention of the following men and women who are currently serving in the United States Military, and ask that you include them in your prayers for a safe tour of duty and a safe return home. Steven A. Canjura, Army Captain Peter Hager, Marine Sergeant & Recruiter Ryan Hager, Air Force 2 nd Lieutenant Owen Hughes, Navy SEAL Brandon P. King, Specialist, Army National Guard Brett M. Kos, U.S. Marines Cole Motz Jacob Squires, U.S. Marines Declan Tougias Eamon Tougias Neelan Tougias Bridget Yearwood, Major in the Army Note: If anyone s status has changed, please call the rectory so we can update for the next bulletin. We encourage you to clip and save the prayers for future worship. Prayer for Veterans God of Peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and who laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, who nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day. We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm s way. Shield them from danger and bring them home. Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of peace. Amen Page 4
3 Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time - Vocations The Lord provides for Elijah s needs as the widow of Zarephath shares with him from her want. Can you give as generously your own life in service to the church as a priest or vowed religious? If so, Fr. Matt or Fr. Michael: vocations@diospringfield.org and/or visit our website: STEWARDSHIP We are now collecting food items for our Thanksgiving Baskets, and will also be accepting monetary donations for turkeys. Your donations help to provide baskets for our parishioners and families within our zip code area who are in need. Your kindness is very much appreciated. To keep the baskets more consistent, we ask that you only bring in the foods listed below. Foods other than those listed will go to the Open Panty. Please leave donations in the sacristy by the exit doors. Asking for donations by last name will enable a more fair and even distribution of food. Monetary donations can be checks made out to Holy Name or cash, and can be brought or mailed to the rectory, or for convenience, put into the collection basket in a plain envelope marked Turkey Donation.
