2 WORSHIP With Fr. Mark retiring, it was announced that Fr. David Aufiero, current Pastor of St. Mark s Parish in Pittsfield, has been appointed by Bishop Rozanski as the new Pastor here at Holy Name! He will be coming to us in mid-august. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Vocations Jesus proclaims himself to be the bread of life. STEWARDSHIP Annual Catholic Appeal Most Recent Update Since our last update we gained an additional donor totaling 234 from Holy Name. Geejo Joseph Pattath, V.C., and all the Vincentian missionaries thank you for your prayers and generous mission offering last weekend. Your offerings will help them to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities in their missions and will help them to educate young men studying for the priesthood. If you didn t have an opportunity to make an offering or would like to make an additional offering, you may make your offering through the general parish collection. Please put this in a specially marked envelope to differentiate it from the regular weekly offering. Thank you very much for your generous support. OPEN PANTRY DONATIONS They are in need of the following food items: Oatmeal or hot cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. Partially used/opened items Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired. Would you like to add a brick to the Holy Name Memorial Walk? What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone special. It could be a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any special occasion. It could be a memorial for a loved one or someone dear who has passed. This is a tribute which will be here for a very long time. Due to the complexity of the installation, all bricks must be ordered and installed at one time. We are able to accept requests for the next group to be installed later this year until the deadline of Friday, August 31st. Please call Ann at the rectory office, , to receive a form. (All bricks ordered last year were installed at the parking lot entrance on the edge on either side walking up to the church.) 4 Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. Mark, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. LOAVES AND FISHES This Monday, members of our parish gather at South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve, and you are welcome to use your own recipe. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, , or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and you ll be on your way home in an hour. You ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot. Special Note: During the summer months we have fewer parishioners to cook and serve because of vacations. If you would consider filling in, it would be gratefully appreciated!! Thanks!! Classic American Chop Suey Recipe to feed 12 4 tbs. butter 2 onions chopped 3 minced garlic cloves 2 lbs. hamburger 1 ½ tsp. oregano 3 tsp. garlic powder 1 ½ tsp. basil ½ tsp. salt 3 tsp. sugar black pepper to taste 2 lbs. elbow macaroni 3 14 oz. cans diced tomatoes 3 15 oz. can tomato sauce Heat butter in a large pot. Add onion and garlic. Cook until soft. Add ground beef, garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Cook stirring occasionally until browned. Add tomatoes, sauce and sugar, stirring over heat until sauce thickens. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to boil and cook macaroni according to package directions. Add to sauce, continue cooking, stirring occasionally to meld flavors. Serve with love. EDUCATION Vacation is a great time for relaxing and reading. It s the NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP A one day bus trip to New York City is planned for Saturday, September 22, The bus will leave the Holy Name parking lot at 7:30a.m. and depart New York City at 6:30p.m. Enjoy shopping, museums and art galleries, a walk in Central Park, St. Patrick s Cathedral, Grant s Tomb, and much, much more! Thanks to your incredible support, 400 donors raised over $130,000. Many of you made multiple gifts to The Fund for SMA and we sincerely appreciate your generosity. Thank you for investing in our children s education and their future. St. Michael s Academy, a pre-school-grade 8 Catholic school in Springfield, seeks a part-time Finance Assistant to record payments for the before and after school program and to assist with other bookkeeping functions. The work schedule is 8 to 10 hours per week on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays. The candidate must have previous bookkeeping experience, strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Discover a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit featuring Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. This is a DVD study with no written homework, this is a study that is solely spirit filled; that will lead you to a place of mercy, healing, peace and presence. Along with the study we will have Praise and Worship Music Ministry with Sinergy Praise with Joe and Rosa Lamothe to bring us further into prayerfulness; when we sing his praises, we are praying twice! The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month starting August 13th from 6:30 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. There is no charge for this bible study and everyone is welcome to come. A free will offering would be graciously appreciated to offset any costs. Save the Date for the sixth annual Faith on Fire Catholic Rally that will be held on our beautiful grounds of Sacred Heart Parish, 1061 Springfield Street in Feeding Hills on August 16th and 17 th, from 6pm 9pm. Our evenings will consist of Praise and Worship music, Eucharistic Procession, Reconciliation, opportunity for extra prayer under the prayer tent and Prayers for healing. We will have four main speakers and lay witness speakers to inspire you. The Faith on Fire committee and Saint Martha s Guild will provide food for purchase.
