2 WORSHIP Benediction and St. Jude Novena Mass We have Benediction after the 8:15a.m. Mass. We will continue to have the St. Jude Novena Mass at 5:30p.m. But this, too, will be evaluated in the future if numbers do not increase. This decision was made in consultation with the Parish Spiritual Life Committee. Please continue to watch the bulletin for updates. This year we will begin booking Masses for 2018 a little later in the year (usually done in May). Please watch the bulletin for the new date. (Bookings will be done as in past years: one, two or three weekend Masses can be booked during a calendar year - Weekday Masses are unlimited. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30 parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners are always welcome, so if you are interested, please contact Kit Devlin at We encourage you to clip and save the prayers for future worship. Prayer for Our Parish O God, You have made us the church of your dear Son, Jesus Christ. Make our Parish a family of one heart and mind in love toward You. Grant that our common life and work may be an example to all. Guide our pastor and his staff in their work. Acknowledge the intercessions of our Blessed Mother Mary, and keep us secure in your love. We received a letter thanking Holy Name parishioners for the wonderful donations of food donated to the Open Pantry Emergency Food Pantry this year. In just the first 6 months they have recorded an astounding 1072 pounds of food from us!! These donations are the life blood to the operation of their panty, and they want us to know how very grateful they are, and also on behalf of all those they serve. They are so pleased to have such caring and compassionate people living in the community who are willing to assist so many in need. The summer months tend to be busier for them, as they help families with their children who are out of school, and they thank us for all we do for the Pantry and the community! Thank you so much for your continued generosity in donating food to the Open Pantry. They are most in need of Canned Chicken and Tuna, Canned Green Vegetables, Spaghetti Sauce, and Peanut Butter. Whatever you can do goes a long way in helping families who need it most! Special Note: We respectfully ask that you please check the expiration dates as well as the condition of the food items, as we cannot accept any damaged goods, any open or partially used food items, anything beyond the expiration date, and absolutely no fresh food of any kind - no fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, breads, or baked goods. Pick-ups are not done every week, so perishables will go bad before they are picked up. Would you like to add a brick to the Holy Name Memorial Walk? What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone special. It could be a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any special occasion. It could be a memorial for a loved one or someone dear who has passed. This is a tribute which will be here for a very long time. Due to the complexity of the installation, all bricks must be ordered and installed at one time, so we are currently receiving applications for the next batch to be installed later this year. 5 SERVICE Concerning Hospital Visits. If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. Mark, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit! Attention Parishioners.new parishioner needs a ride to church We received a call from a woman who would like to join our parish and attend Mass. She is disabled and is seeking a ride to church and back home. She lives on Fort Pleasant Avenue. If you are able to help, please call Ann at the rectory, for more information. Thanks! EDUCATION U.S. Catholic Bishops Statement regarding the Sanctuary Movement Sanctuary We urge every faith community, including every Catholic parish, to declare themselves a sanctuary for people facing deportation and those being targeted based on religion, race or political beliefs. Being a sanctuary can include hosting families at risk of deportation, accompanying people from detention, holding Defend Your Rights trainings and organizing rapid response teams. As Pope Francis has said to us: Who is this inn keeper? It is the church, the Christian community, people of compassion and solidarity, social organizations. It is us; it is you, to whom the Lord Jesus daily entrusts those who are afflicted in the body and spirit, so that we can continue pouring out all of his immeasurable mercy and salvation upon them. Sanctuary Facts No one with a criminal record and or trying to evade the law on criminal charges, will be housed in sanctuary Lawyers, with expertise in Immigration Law, will be assisting in sanctuary housing You are not breaking the law by providing a safe place for those facing deportation Holy Name is a Second Level Sanctuary; we will collect and supply sheets, towels, toiletries for those in need. Don t forget about the Kiosk filled with Books, C.D.s and D.V.D.s for your reading and listening pleasure as you further your knowledge, foster your spiritual growth, and strengthen your faith and commitment to God and your Catholic religion. Check out the new pamphlets and C.D.s just recently added!! The kiosk is located at the Bookshelf (the parish library behind the altar), and the items are available for purchase. Even if you have come by to see it, please stop by periodically as we will be adding new items as others are sold. Payment via cash or check (made out to Holy Name) and deposited into the lock box. HOLY NAME EVENTS NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP A one day bus trip to New York City is planned for Saturday, October 14 th. The bus will leave the Holy Name parking lot at 7:30a.m. and leave New York City at 6:30p.m. to arrive back between 9:30-10p.m. $40.00 per person. For reservations, contact Tom Burke at OTHER EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES BUS TRIP- Come with us and Celebrate St. Anne s Feast Day, Wednesday, July 26th, 2017, 9-4 pm. The schedule includes being part of a special healing Mass and anointing service, listening to interesting speakers including the mother of Little Audrey Santos, join in saying the rosary led by the Children s Rosary from CT., and enjoy the lunch reception. A tour along the Scala Sancta (Holy Stairs) and the outdoor stations of the cross will also take place. It will be held November 16-18, 2017 at the Indianapolis Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. This year, we are excited to announce that Bishop Rozanski will be attending! In 2015, over 50 youth and adults attended from our diocese. The Adams, Holy Name parishioners, are looking for a mature, responsible person who enjoys people with special needs to work with their son on Saturdays. Thomas is 19 and has autism.
