2 WORSHIP A Request to Pray the Rosary Next to the Mass, the Rosary is the most powerful prayer. Never has there been a greater need for prayer. Our Blessed Mother begs us, particularly those graced with the knowledge and appreciation of the power of the Rosary, to pray the Rosary every day for world peace, for the end of abortion, discernment between good and evil, vocations, lukewarm and fallen away Catholics, marriages, political civility, for souls in purgatory, for the intentions of the Holy Father, and especially for those in most need of God s mercy. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. The ANNUAL PRAYER LINE PARTNERS BREAKFAST will be Saturday, January 26 th, right after the 8:15a.m. Mass. As in years prior, it will take place at Donovan s Irish Pub at the Eastfield Mall. Please R.S.V.P. (REGRETS ONLY) to Ann at by the Monday before the event (January 21 st ) so we can give an accurate count to the restaurant. They open up and bring in staff especially for us, so we should be as courteous as possible by giving them a true count. Thank you!! We encourage you to clip and save the prayers for future worship. Loving God, bring us light in the darkness, peace in the turbulence. And may we be the bearers of your light to others. Amen. STEWARDSHIP Collections for January 5 & 6, 2019 total $6,677.10! We truly appreciate your support! Sr. Melinda continues seeking DONATIONS of individually wrapped cookies, small candy bars, Tootsie rolls, lollipops, granola, and packs of peanut butter crackers for the candy bags that our parish is providing to Holy Cross to enhance their Sandwich Ministry for the homeless. Any of these items that you can provide is warmly appreciated! 0907 Page 3
3 The OPEN PANTRY is very much in need of the following food items (their shelves are more empty than they should be at this time) - Oatmeal or Hot Cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. Partially used/opened items Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired. Thank you very much for whatever you are able to donate! Catholic Schools Week Speakers and Calendar Sales On January 19 th & 20 th, students from St. Michael s Academy will be present at Mass to briefly share the benefits of a Catholic education. They will discuss some of their experiences and explain why they attend SMA. After Mass, they will be selling Calendar Raffles for $10 each. All proceeds support the programs of St. Michael s Academy. The winners will be announced at the St. Michael s Academy Pasta Supper on Saturday, February 2, SERVICE 16 th Annual MICAH Awards Dinner Saturday, February 2, 2019, 5-9p.m. at Cedar s Banquet Hall, 375 Island Pond Road in Springfield, Social Hour begins at 5p.m., Program begins at 6:00p.m. Honoring Holy Name Parishioner Sandra Sandy Hines Each year, the MICAH (Ministry in Community Action Honorees) Awards Dinner provides the membership of PVP the opportunity to express its appreciation for the contributions of an individual from each organization who exemplifies the words of the prophet Micah: He has shown you what is good; And what does the Lord want of you but to do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8) We invite Sandy s family, friends and Holy Name Parishioners to take part in this special evening, and hope that many will be able to attend. If you want to reserve a table or purchase individual tickets, please call Ann at the rectory. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of ten. Congratulations to Msgr. David Joyce. 4 Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. David, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. LOAVES AND FISHES You are invited to join with other volunteers on the first Monday of every month to come to South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, , or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and be out in about an hour. You ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot. Since we have lost some of our volunteers, if you can help out, it would be greatly appreciated!! EDUCATION PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES January 7, 2019 REPORTS: Pastor Report Fr.
