4 WORSHIP With Fr. Mark retiring, it was announced that Fr. David Aufiero, current Pastor of St. Mark s Parish in Pittsfield, has been appointed by Bishop Rozanski as the new Pastor here at Holy Name! He will be coming to us in mid-august. Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory ( ). You don t even have to give us your name just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday through Friday) and it to the partners who have s, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first person calls the second, and so on). New partners always welcome. Please contact Ann at the rectory, , with your interest. Just a reminder, the book is now open for scheduling Masses for As always, they are on a first come-first serve basis. You can book either one, two or three weekend Masses during a calendar year, but Weekday Masses are unlimited. Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Vocations When the apostles were trying to reflect on their ministry, Jesus asked them to: Come by yourselves to an out-ofthe-way place. Listening to God in quiet prayer is very important in vocation discernment. Listen to God s voice in an out-of-the-way place. If you feel the call is genuine, Fr. Matt or Fr. 5 STEWARDSHIP Welcome to our Visiting Missionary Priest from India Fr. Geejo Pattath, V.C., a Vincentian missionary priest from India, will be in our parish next weekend (July 28 & 29) to participate in our annual Mission Cooperative Plan. He will share his missionary experiences at all the Masses and will make an appeal on behalf of the Vincentian Missions. The Vincentian Congregation (V.C.), a religious congregation, was founded in Kerala, India in 1904, modeled after the Congregation of the Mission founded by St. Vincent de Paul. Members of this flourishing religious congregation are engaged in mission work in all part of India, East Africa and Peru. Please visit their website, to learn more about them. The Vincentian Missionaries need our help to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities. They need our special financial support for the training of young men studying for the priesthood. There will be a special mission collection next weekend (July 28 & 29) to help the missionary work of the Vincentian Fathers. Please be very generous in your mission offering since these missionaries need our help. And please keep Fr. Geejo Pattath and all the Vincentian Missionaries in your prayers. Thank you. OPEN PANTRY DONATIONS They are in need of the following food items: Oatmeal or hot cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned meats and Spaghetti Sauce But please, we ask that you do not bring any: Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.) Pick-ups are not done every week, so any items like this will go bad. Partially used/opened items Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired. Would you like to add a brick to the Holy Name Memorial Walk? What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone special. It could be a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any special occasion. It could be a memorial for a loved one or someone dear who has passed. This is a tribute which will be here for a very long time. Due to the complexity of the installation, all bricks must be ordered and installed at one time. Please call Ann at the rectory office, , to receive a form. 6 Collections for & July 7 & 8, 2018 total $7,768.30! Many, many thanks to all of you!! SERVICE Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. Mark, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit. LOAVES AND FISHES On the first Monday of every month, members of our parish gather at South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding experience, and it is so organized, it won t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve, and you are welcome to use your own recipe. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, , or if you decide to come and don t have time to call ahead, that s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and you ll be on your way home in an hour. You ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot. Special Note: During the summer months we have fewer parishioners to cook and serve because of vacations. If you would consider filling in, it would be gratefully appreciated!! Thanks!! EDUCATION Vacation is a great time for relaxing and reading. Come browse the shelves of the Holy Name Bookshelf. You are sure to find something of interest! HOLY NAME EVENTS Back By Popular Demand. It s the NEW YORK CITY BUS TRIP A one day bus trip to New York City is planned for Saturday, September 22, The bus will leave the Holy Name parking lot at 7:30a.m. and depart New York City at 6:30p.m. Enjoy shopping, museums and art galleries, a walk in Central Park, St. Patrick s Cathedral, Grant s Tomb, and much, much more! For more information, contact Deacon Bill Toller at Holy Cross Church, The Maryland State Boychoir will be live in concert free admission, on Thursday, July 26 th at 7:30 pm, at St. Mary s Church, 519 Longmeadow Street in Longmeadow. Come listen to the Concert Choir in a thrilling performance of a variety of music, including sacred masterworks, contemporary pieces, gospel, spirituals and folksongs. The choir is singing as part of a 9-day tour through Massachusetts, Quebec City and Montreal. Founded in 1987, the Maryland State Boychoir (MSB), Maryland s Official Goodwill Ambassadors, is comprised of a diverse group of about 130 talented boys, ages 7 to 20, who love to sing. They come from nine Maryland counties, Baltimore City, and the D.C. suburbs. The choir s reputation for excellence has resulted in invitations to perform in a variety of venues such as The White House, Kennedy Center, National Cathedral, St. Patrick s and Holy Trinity Cathedrals in New York, Saint Patrick s Cathedral in Ireland, and Coventry Cathedral in England. The Wild Goose is a term that the ancient Celts had for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has been given to us to lead us to the heart of God. This study will take place on the second Monday of each month starting August 13th from 6:30 8:00pm in our Parish Center. You will have an opportunity for fellowship and light refreshments. There is no charge for this bible study and everyone is welcome to come. A free will offering would be graciously appreciated to offset any costs. Save the Date for the sixth annual Faith on Fire Catholic Rally that will be held on our beautiful grounds of Sacred Heart Parish, 1061 Springfield Street in Feeding Hills on August 16th and 17 th, from 6pm 9pm. Our evenings will consist of Praise and Worship music, Eucharistic Procession, Reconciliation, opportunity for extra prayer under the prayer tent and Prayers for healing.
