The Freedom To Be Vulnerable: The nature of a child's spirit begs a tender touch. Sometimes it's a spirit lost in confusion and badgered by fears. Sometimes it's a broken heart that longs to recover in the deep, or quilted comfort of gentle understanding. Occasionally it's a hope too good to be pursued in vain and too delicate to be pursued alone. On the front side of every life is a boy or girl in a fragile state of flux. As adults, we know that those who follow the well-worn path to the base of the cross find ample room for heavy hearts and hurts that can't seem to heal. It's an amazing grace that doesn't trivialize the fickle nature of our personalities. There's no condescension waiting to counter our tendencies to become easily embarrassed. There are no lectures longing to straighten out the folly of our thinking. There's no mocking of our self-conscious thoughts --- just a generous Savior with a gentle heart who knows how unsure we often are about ourselves. God doesn't "card" those who come searching for His grace. You won't find any age restrictions for those wanting to travel down His path. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" - Matthew 19:14. But some paths are easier to take when they are walked hand in hand with someone older and wiser. - Grace Based Parenting, pg 163 PARENT(S) S RESPONSIBILITY: Parent(s), you are responsible for your child(ren) at all times. A child or children under 14 years MUST BE accompanied by an adult to the restroom, at snack time, and during lunch break. Your child(ren) MUST BE in your company at all times. 6 ANNOUNCEMENTS Health Information: In keeping with the Black History Month celebration, we will be focussing on the relationship that marijuana has played in the lives of Black people and the impact that it has on the culture. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Galatians 6:7-8 New International Version (NIV)) The US National Library of Medicine study found that while alcoholism was most prevalent among Whites and Hispanics, marijuana abuse was most greatly used among African Americans compared to any other race/ ethnicities. The abuse of alcohol and marijuana combined was also most prevalent amongst African Americans than Whites and Hispanics. Simply put, the Black community is more susceptible to these destructive substances which the federal governments in Canada (up until last summer), the US, and other developed countries deem as addictive and destructive. Remember, marijuana is a Gateway drug leading to use of hard drugs like cocaine. With results like these, what do you choose to serve: the flesh or the Spirit? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Can you imagine Joshua leading an entire nation into a foreign country to do battle with his enemies? And to top it off, his mentor, Moses had died. Now Joshua is on his own. No wonder he felt fear. But God s words to Joshua serve as encouragement in times of fear. God promises to be with us wherever we go, no matter what insurmountable odds we may face. 8
