4 Page Four THE PROMISE OF JUSTICE We are in fairly good company when we ask God for justice. Often enough we hear and agree with the lament of the people of Israel asking God why the wicked prosper. However, when we call out for justice, we usually want someone to get his or her comeuppance. God s justice is something other than this, of course. God s justice comprises a wonderful rightness between God and humankind. Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a time when a just one will sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah s time. Israel s kings held the promise of God s fidelity, but it was difficult to see how God s promise could be realized through them. Nevertheless, Jeremiah lifts his voice and announces that the Promised One will come. Luke s Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encouragement. And so Advent begins with a promise. St. Vincent de Paul Society: Meets every second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM in the convent. Parishioners are welcome to visit a meeting! Members take part in the activities of their choice, including helpful visits to families and persons in need, or some of the services found below. All services need new helpers! Clothing Center: The Clothing Center has resumed activities and is now collecting fall and winter clothing, shoes and linens. Please leave bagged items in the bin behind the convent building. Volunteers are welcome! Call Isabelle at Food Project: Donate Food bins are located at four entrances of the church. Your donations of nonperishable food and toiletries will be distributed to those in need in our community. Do not donate expired or perishable items. Family Matters: Do you have a favorite custom for the Advent season? Have you considered starting a new tradition? Plan on using this activity as a way for your family to grow closer to Jesus in this time of preparation and waiting. Pray For One Another. 55+ Christmas Luncheon: 55+ will be holding their Annual Christmas Luncheon on December 11th at Noon at Adagio Seafood Restaurant, Pembroke Rd., Bethlehem. All parishioners welcome! Cost $22 per person. RSVP deadline is December 4th. Reservation form can be found on the tables at each of the church doors. For any questions contact Sharon Seitz, at Parish Penance Service Wednesday, December 12, :00 PM Partnership with Share Care: Parish drivers provide rides for elderly and handicapped parishioners. New drivers are welcome! Need a ride? Requests must be made at least two week in advance. Call Share Care at , identify as a St. Anne s Parishioner. In Honor/In Memory of gift cards: Available in the rectory or at Washington Ave. exit of the church. THE THREE COMINGS OF ADVENT There are three distinct comings of the Lord of which I know: His coming to humankind, His coming into humankind, and His coming against humankind. 6 Page Six Learn Succeed Lead We often ask for support for our beautiful school. We also wish to share examples of giving at St. Anne School: St. Anne Catholic School Students attain many academic milestones, most often scoring above national averages on standardized tests. Our students go on to successful high school careers and a vast majority of our alumni complete degree programs in higher education. Our St. Anne Catholic School Students also live their faith through their daily religion classes and through the beautiful examples set by faculty, staff and families. We teach students to be independent thinkers, life-long learners, and compassionate citizens who care about the world around them. For example, in just the last few weeks - St. Anne School Student Council recently donated over 200 food items to the Ecumenical Soup Kitchen. The St. Anne School Student Council sponsored the signing of a prayer banner by the entire school and sent it to the congregation of the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue following their horrific tragedy. The St. Anne School Community recently donated candy for Operation Gratitude. This candy is packed in much needed care packages and sent to our deployed troops, responders and others serving our great country. The Operation Gratitude drop-off site was overwhelmed with the amount of candy donated by our school families, noting that this was the largest donation from any school ever! St. Anne School celebrated WORLD KINDNESS DAY- for a donation of $1.00 students received a kindness wrist band and were able to dress down for the day. Proceeds from this event were donated to Habitat for Humanity. There can never be too many life lessons about kindness and living like Jesus would want us to live. As always we thank our school families for their participation and generosity. Registration is OPEN for the School Year All Are Welcome in this Place!
