2 A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ANDREW Dear Parish Family, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends. I want to thank everyone who signed up to be ministers and who helped in anyway to make the Christmas experience at Holy Eucharist wonderful for those who came to us. This is what we at Holy Eucharist do so well not just on major feasts but throughout the year. Next weekend we begin our new series Secrets of every Happy Family. This is something that effects all of us. I hope this series will be helpful in your spiritual journey as we begin a new year. "After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers." As we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, this Gospel exposes us to a strange tension. While this family is one we can look to for an example, they are not quite the same family unit as everyone else. There is an otherness to Jesus, something profound. And yet, perhaps on second thought, are our families so different? When Mary and Joseph encountered Jesus in the temple, "they were astonished." But at what? Mary's response is surprised. They're not astonished that Jesus is preaching in a place for respected teachers. They're not astonished that their son has captured the attention of the wisest men of the time period. They're astonished at his seemingly disobedient behavior! "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety." All our children have an "otherness" about them, something that makes them unique and different. They are distinctly not "me." What will our own children become? What temple will they wander off to? Who will they astound? Remember the Christmas Season ends on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord which is January 10th. I encourage you to continue celebrating. Have a wonderful week! Fr. A Welcome Center where you can find information on our parish, visit our Kiosks to register for Online Giving or one of our many activities and be welcomed by a friendly face. Introduce yourself! We even give tours!! Our Café offers a fresh cup of coffee and light refreshments after Mass. Outstanding children s programs! At Kidzone, we offer worship for kids ages 6 months to Kindergarten. We gather for the duration of Mass and provide your child with a warm environment for him/her to play, connect with other children in our faith community. Offered each week at Sunday 8:30 am and 10:30 am masses There s Young Believers ( grades 1-3) and Faith Explorers ( grades 4-6) where children have the opportunity to hear the Liturgy of the Word (readings and homily) at an age appropriate level during Mass. Offered each week Saturday 5:00 pm, Sunday 8:30 am and 10:30 am masses Innovative Family Faith Formation program for grades 1-8 ~our monthly weekend LIFT! program creates opportunities for families to learn how to pray together, grow as disciples and help families develop spiritual habits that will lead them into a deeper relationship with Christ. The process by which adults come into the church is called "RCIA" - the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. Perhaps you have never been baptized, or baptized as a Catholic or other Christian faith but never received further faith formation. Perhaps your school age child has never been baptized or received First Eucharist. Do you have a high school student who has not received First Eucharist or been confirmed? We offer a wonderful program for them as well!. We extend our sincerest thanks to the parishioners of Holy Eucharist Church for helping to make Christmas special for the 150 families in our surrounding area. Thank you for your kindness, support and generous donations of gifts, food, baked good, turkeys, hams and supermarket gift cards. Thank you to the many families and organizations who adopted families at Christmas time. Thank you to Russo s Farm market for always supporting our holiday programs by providing baked goods and vegetables for our food baskets. Thanks to Shoprite, Murphy s and Wegmans for their donations. Thank you to the many people who helped us pack our food baskets. Thanks to the parishioners that present us with monetary donations to be used to help families in need. God always guides us! We are his eyes, ears, arms, hands and legs and because of your faith in us and your support of what we do, you allow us to make a difference in the lives of those that need our help.
