Our parish strives to make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for us through the Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure. All of our parishioners are encouraged to count their blessings each day and to make a sacrificial return through the parish offertory, and by compassionately serving one another s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Mass Schedule: Weekend: Saturday Vigil - 4:30 PM Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 noon Weekdays and Holy Days: as announced in bulletin Reconciliation: Saturday - 3:15 to 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:15 AM PARISH MEMBERSHIP: Active parish membership is both necessary and helpful to all involved when seeking sponsorship certificates, Marriage or Baptism preparations. Please call the rectory to register or to report address or phone number changes. HOSPITAL VISITS: Please have someone notify the rectory when you or a family member is hospitalized. BAPTISM: Parents must attend a Baptism Prep Class before the Baptism of their child. Classes are held on Sunday in the months of Feb., Apr., Jun., Aug., Oct., and Dec., and Baptisms are held once a month. 3 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three CALLED TO ACT IN GOD S NAME Let all the nations praise you! (Psalm 67:4) today s psalm response exclaims. In the psalms and other Hebrew scriptures, this kind of invocation is actually an invitation to God to act, to intervene in human lives in a manner that will cause everyone not just the Chosen People to give praise. Stated a bit more strongly, it is something of a put up or shut up challenge to God, the sort of strong statement the psalmists of Israel, trusting in their intimate and loving relationship with God, were not afraid to make. The Gospel has its own exclamation, announcing the appearance of the Canaanite woman with Behold! (Matthew 15:22) Behold! is a scriptural flag that tells us that God is about to act or announce something through an individual or a situation. In the case of Jesus, God was going to act through this woman, whom nobody among Jesus followers would have believed to be an agent of the divine will. Like the psalmists, we might passively inform or perhaps even actively challenge God to do something so that everyone will come to belief, but God will always turn the tables on us. It becomes our calling, our duty (as it was for Jesus) to behold the situations and persons of our daily lives so that God can act through us, so the Kingdom can be announced through our living. St. Vincent de Paul Society: Meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the convent. Parishioners are welcome to visit a meeting! Members take part in the activities of their choice, including helpful visits to families and persons in need, or some of the services found below. All services need new helpers! Clothing Center: We have suspended activity until September. Food Project: Parishioners donate bags of non-perishable foods and toiletries in bins at the church entrances. Volunteers bring these to the convent where members sort and store it for the needy families we visit and for food pantries. Envelopes for money or gift cards are at the bins. Back To School: We are currently collecting school supplies for those in need in our area. We are looking for pencils, hand sanitizer, tissues, notebooks, and folders. Items can be placed in the food bins. Please no glue sticks or markers. Partnership with Share Care: Parish drivers provide rides for elderly and handicapped parishioners. New drivers are welcome! Need a ride? Requests must be made at least two week in advance. Call Share Care at , identify as a St. Anne s Parishioner. Diocesan Family Festival: Please join us for a fun-filled day for the whole family! Sunday, September 24, 11 AM - 4 PM at SteelStacks. The day begins with an outdoor Multi-Cultural Mass celebrated at 11 AM (Bring a lawn chair). The festivities will follow the Mass. There will be ethnic food for sale provided by parishes of the Diocese with games and activities for all ages. From a petting zoo, to face painting, bounce house, inflatable obstacle course, etc. Musical entertainment provided by the local band Island Time and your entertainment provided by DJ Wesley Works. No reservations are needed. 4 Youth Ministry Kick-Off Page Four Bishop-Elect Schlert s Ordination: In celebration of the Ordination and Installation of Bishop-elect Alfred Schlert as the Fifth Bishop of Allentown, the Diocese will be having two liturgical services: All youth in grades 8 through 12 are invited to our youth group bar-b-que on Sunday, September 17, from 6-7:30 PM in the church parking lot. We are using this as an opportunity to start a youth group here at St. Anne s. Following the bar-b-que, regular meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month from 6-7:30 PM in the convent. Invite your friends, and we look forward to seeing you there as we grow closer to one another and Our Lord. Office of Youth, Young Adult & Family: The final installment of the 3 part Theology on Tap Speaker Series for young adults (ages 21-35) will be held on Monday, August 21 at Allentown Brew Works from 7 to 9 PM. Mr. Mike Guman, Vice President, Oppenheimer Funds and former NFL player for the Los Angeles Rams, will discuss his experience of living out the Catholic faith as a professional in a secular career field. Solemn Vespers at which the Bishop-elect will make a Profession of Faith and the Oath of Fidelity is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30 at 7:00 PM at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown. This event is open to the public. As the Allentown Fair will be occurring, all parking will be at St. Thomas More Church. Continuous shuttles will be running beginning at 5:00 PM. Light refreshments in the Parish Activity Center will follow and everyone will have a chance to greet the Bishop-elect. 2. The Mass of Ordination will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena on Thursday, August 31 at 2:00 PM. Because of space limitations at the Cathedral, attendance at this event is by invitation only. The Ordination/Installation will be broadcast live on Service Electric and Blue Ridge Cable TV locally. Efforts are underway to have it broadcast nationally as well. It will also be livestreamed on the Diocesan Facebook Page: Bishop s Annual Appeal: As of today, our parishioners have raised $88,363 from 330 parishioners representing 17.39% of our total number of registered families in our parish. We need the support of all of our parish families to reach our financial goal and to reach the 100% participation goal. If you have not made your pledge of support, you may return your pledge form to the parish office or make your gift online. Remember, every gift counts, no gift is too small. Protecting God s Children Workshop: St. Anne School will be hosting a Protecting God s Children Workshop on Sept. 12th at 6 PM in the Community Center. Anyone who will be working with children this coming school year and have not already completed the workshop is encouraged to attend.
