Our parish strives to make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for us through the Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure. All of our parishioners are encouraged to count their blessings each day and to make a sacrificial return through the parish offertory, and by compassionately serving one another s physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Mass Schedule: Weekend: Saturday Vigil - 4:30 PM Sunday - 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, 12:00 noon Weekdays and Holy Days: as announced in bulletin Reconciliation: Saturday - 3:15 to 4:00 PM Sunday - 8:15 AM PARISH MEMBERSHIP: Active parish membership is both necessary and helpful to all involved when seeking sponsorship certificates, Marriage or Baptism preparations. Please call the rectory to register or to report address or phone number changes. HOSPITAL VISITS: Please have someone notify the rectory when you or a family member is hospitalized. BAPTISM: Parents must attend a Baptism Prep Class before the Baptism of their child. Classes are held on Sunday in the months of Feb., Apr., Jun., Aug., Oct., and Dec., and Baptisms are held once a month. 3 Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three GOD S WATCHERS In the ancient world watchmen were extremely important people. They kept communities safe, and were there to alert them to any impending danger or attack. Before locks, alarms, and security systems, watchmen were the protectors, the safety measure. So when the Lord charges Ezekiel as a watchman today, it is a weighty charge. So weighty, we learn, that if Ezekiel fails to sound the alarm for those around him and they perish in a state of wickedness, Ezekiel will be held responsible! This profound connection between God s will on earth and in heaven is repeated in today s Gospel, where Jesus instructs us that we are to be the security force, the watchers placed on alert that nowhere in the Body of Christ, the church, will there be any two members of the one Body who are not reconciled. Scripture tells us that Jesus reconciled all things in heaven and on earth through the blood of his cross. But we are given the mission to continue that reconciliation on earth as in heaven through our ceaseless efforts to be, as Paul would write, ambassadors of reconciliation. Let us not get too comfortable thinking that we are responsible only for keeping our own lives from the path of wickedness and disagreement. We are also held accountable for the lives of the members of Christ s body around us. Family Matters: We pray this week for the parents that find themselves alone as their children embark on their own life s journey. May these parents enjoy the fruits of their life s labor as they watch their children grow. You Pray for My Family and I Will Pray For Yours. Deacon Gergar Knights of Columbus: St. Anne s Knights of Columbus council will be selling their COAL tickets after all masses on September 16 & 17. Each ticket cost $1.00. This years top prize will be a 2018 Chevrolet Spark. Lat year St. Anne s K of C council sold one winning prize ticket to a parishioner of our church. Please help us to provide scholarships to kids going to college. St. Vincent de Paul Society: Meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM in the convent. Parishioners are welcome to visit a meeting! Members take part in the activities of their choice, including helpful visits to families and persons in need, or some of the services found below. All services need new helpers! Clothing Center: The Clothing Center has resumed service and is now accepting fall and winter clothing, footwear and linens. Food Project: Parishioners donate bags of non-perishable foods and toiletries in bins at the church entrances. Volunteers bring these to the convent where members sort and store it for the needy families we visit and for food pantries. Envelopes for money or gift cards are at the bins. Back To School: We are currently collecting school supplies for those in need in our area. We are looking for pencils, hand sanitizer, tissues, notebooks, and folders. Items can be placed in the food bins. Please no glue sticks or markers. Partnership with Share Care: Parish drivers provide rides for elderly and handicapped parishioners. New drivers are welcome! Need a ride? Requests must be made at least two week in advance. Call Share Care at , identify as a St. Anne s Parishioner. We welcome all who wish to lend a helping hand to our needy Bethlehem neighbors or to transport elderly parishioners! Thanks for your generous support in the 5th Sunday collections! Mass of Healing and Anointing of the Sick: Will be held Monday, September 11 at 7 PM in Holy Ghost Church. Rev. Clifton E. 4 Protecting God s Children Workshop: St. Anne School will be hosting a Protecting God s Children Workshop on Sept. 12th at 6 PM in the Community Center. Anyone who will be working with children this coming school year and have not already completed the workshop is encouraged to attend. Please contact Mrs. Bentz, school principle at bentz@stannebethlehem.org to register or for questions. We The Living: is a grief support group for those grieving the loss of a loved one. The group will meet for 6-weeks in the Fall on Wednesdays, beginning September 20 and ending on October 25. Meetings will take place in the St. Anne Rectory Meeting Room from 6:00-7:30 PM. We are using this as an opportunity to start a youth group here at St. Anne s. Following the bar-b-que, regular meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month from 6-7:30 PM in the convent. Invite your friends, and we look forward to seeing you there as we grow closer to one another and Our Lord. Sponsored by St. Anne s Knights of Columbus! All you can eat eggs, pancakes, tasty pastries, sausage, hash browns. Adults, $6.50; children 5-12, $4 and kids under 5 eat for free. Page Four Deanery Mass with Bishop Schlert: As we celebrate the Ordination and Installation of Bishop Alfred A. Schlert as the Fifth Bishop of Allentown you are invited to attend a special Mass for our area being celebrated on Tuesday, September 19th at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church, Easton. The Mass will begin at 7:00 PM. After the Mass a social will take place in which you will have the opportunity to meet our new Bishop. Please plan on attending to celebrate this historic event as we welcome our new Shepherd. Coincidentally, September 19th marks the 30th priesthood anniversary of Bishop-elect Schlert. This will be a Mass of Thanksgiving in which he will join other priests and deacons of the deanery in celebrating this special occasion. RCIA: RCIA meets every Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the convent. Topic for September 13th will Be the Call - What brings us here. RCIA is an opportunity for all to learn and grow in faith. All parishioners are welcome to attend. Autumnfest Weekend - October 21-22: We are looking to have 200 gift baskets available to raffle off. To make this happen, we need parishioners to assemble and donate a basket or gift bag valued at $25 or more, and bring it to the school or rectory by Oct. 16. Please let the rectory know if you are planning to donate a basket or bag. Join us Saturday, October 21 for Fr. Mongiello s Annual Evening of Fine Food and Music. Great food, fun, and musical performances by Fr. Mongiello and Friends in Faith. Reservation deadline is Oct. 16th, cost is $25 per person. Desire: Fulfilling Our Deepest Longing: Are you looking for something more in your life? We all have a longing deep in our hearts that isn t satisfied by the things of this world. Many people search for fulfillment in a variety of ways, but are left with a sense of emptiness. Join us on Saturday, September 30th from 7 to 9 PM for some wine and cheese as the Office of Adult Formation for the Diocese of Allentown hosts national presenter Bill Donaghy who will explore what and who we are made for so that we can finally attain our desire and fulfill our deepest longing.
