While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, February 27, 2011 How much time do you waste worrying about things over which you have no control? We all do it the weather, the stock market, what other people say, do, or think. Jesus is encouraging us to live as though we really believed that God our Father cares about us personally. Because he does! Seek first the kingdom of God. Look for signs of God s presence in your life, and in the lives of others, be a witness to his loving kindness and everything will fall into place. Remember: It s all about Jesus! Your gift will enable archdiocesan support of ministry, education, and services that touch thousands of lives, not only in our Archdiocese but throughout the world. Our parish receives 25% of each dollar contributed up to our goal of $195, Then, we receive 50% of the additional funds received. YOUTH MINISTRY While hiking in the Upper Marlboro area last week, I noticed a bunch (flock?) of ducks and geese hanging out together. It reminded me of some facts I learned earlier that help to describe teamwork and the Body of Christ. The following is taken from Inspiring Stories and Quotes: The next season, when you see the geese migrating, going to a warmer place, to sort the winter...pay attention that they fly in a V formation. Maybe you will be interested in knowing why they do it this way... By flying in a V formation...the whole flock increases the flight efficiency by 71%, compared to just one bird flying alone. Sharing the same direction and working as a team, get us to the destination quicker and easier. By helping ourselves, the accomplishments are greater! When a goose leaves the formation He feels the resistance of the air and the difficulties of flying alone... Then, he quickly comes back to the formation to take advantage of the flock s power in front of him By staying in tune and united beside those who are going in the same direction, the effort will be less. It will be easier and pleasing to reach the goals, everyone will be inclined to accept and give help. The geese flying in V formation, quack to encourage the ones in the front. In that way, they keep the same speed. When there is courage and encouragement, the progress is greater A timely word of encouragement, always motivates, helps and strengthens It produces the best of benefits. When a goose gets sick, is injured or gets tired and must leave the formation...other geese leave the formation too, and they fly with him to help him out and protect him. They remain with him until he dies or he is able to fly again. They reach their bevy or they just make another V formation. Let s stay beside each other no matter what the differences. Specially in times of difficulty and great challenges If we bond together and support each other If we make true the spirit of teamwork. Regardless of our differences, we can rise to meet our challenge. 6 SECOND COLLECTIONS February 26/27 Building/Maintenance Fund March 9 Eastern Europe (Ash Wednesday) March 26/27 Building/Maintenance Fund STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE In today s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neighbors as themselves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that to give generously to those who ask of us and not to turn our backs on those who seek to borrow. PLANNED GIVING As parishioners of Saint Louis Church, we are all beneficiaries of more than 150 years of service and parishioner generosity. A planned gift to Saint Louis Church, will sustain this good work for generations to come. For more information on making a planned gift to Saint Louis Church, contact Mary Helfrich, Development Director at MHelfrich@stlouisparish.org or Preserving our Treasured Legacy Campaign: Please consider making a sacrificial pledge to this campaign that will enable us to bring down the mortgage of our new Church and Pastoral Center. 1. If you gave to the Heritage of Hope Campaign, which ended in 2001, consider making a pledge to the Legacy Campaign. Or 2. If you are nearing the end of your payment to the Legacy Campaign, consider extended your pledge for another year or two. Or 3. If you are new to the parish or were unable to make a pledge in the past, consider doing your part now by making a pledge now. Everyone is invited and encouraged to support and participate in this important time in the life of our parish. For additional information contact the parish office at Thanks sincerely to all who have been supportive. GOOD SAMARITAN MINISTRY: Are you good at getting people connected with each other? The Good Samaritan ministry has been at St. Louis for many years to connect parishioners with those in the parish who need short-term help. Most of the time, it involves offering to bring someone to church once or twice a month, other times to take someone to a medical appointment, or pick up groceries. We are looking for more people to share rides to Mass, since this is one of the most frequent requests. There is also an opportunity for someone to learn to be the coordinator for this loving ministry. It involves getting a request and sending s or making calls to the roster of volunteers to fill the need. Please contact Marianne Faulstich at the Parish Office at or mfaulstich@stlouisparish.org if you sense the Holy Spirit nudging you into this service to others. SHRINE OF ST.
