While reading sacred scripture, read the words with a love and sense of discovery until something seems to strike home. Sit with the passage as one would with a good friend- not just thinking or analyzing, but instead remaining in a quiet, listening spirit, so the word can nurture and challenge you. Call to Prayer Let us take a moment in the midst of all our activity to prepare ourselves for prayer. Excerpts from SNOW FALLING ON SNOW Copyright 2001 by Robert J. Wicks Used with permission of Paulist Press The Word of God Choose one of next Sunday s readings. One person reads the scripture aloud as others are attentive to a word, phrase, or theme that is meaningful to them. Allow for a minute of silent reflection. Have another person read the same scripture a second time. Faith Sharing Begin with an open ended question such as What strikes you from this reading? and/or you can use the Reflection Question found on our website or bulletin. Allow time for reflection & sharing. Closing Prayer At the end of the faith sharing, invite participants to pray aloud for any particular petitions or praises they may have. Feel free to close with: The Lord s Prayer or Spontaneous prayers or a faith-based song. Reflection Question for Next Sunday, February 6, 2011 Jesus calls us to be salt and light for the world. This can be a pretty heady experience, when you realize that sometimes, you are doing just that! When others call you an inspiration. When people are drawn by your example of living the life Jesus wants for you. When this little light o mine really does shine, to paraphrase an old hymn. Listen to St. Paul: everything we do is through the power of the Holy Spirit and not on our own wisdom. May our good deeds lead others to glorify God, not ourselves. 2 Dear Parishioners: This weekend marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week and Saint Louis School has much to celebrate! Since its founding in 1923 by Father Howard Bishop, our parochial school has provided students with a high quality education in the context of a strong Catholic identity. In recognition of this superb program the school was named by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence a very high honor that designates our school as one of the best in the United States. On Tuesday of this week, at a special assembly following the weekly 9:30 am School Mass, officials from the US Department of Education in Washington will formally present the official proclamation and representatives from our state and local governments, including Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown, will be present to participate in celebrating this exceptional achievement. Bishop Mitchell Rozanski, our regional bishop, will also be present to celebrate the Mass and offer congratulations on behalf of Archbishop O Brien and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. On behalf of our entire parish I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Terry Weiss, Principal of our school, to the entire faculty and student body and to our dedicated parents for their cooperative efforts in making Saint Louis School so outstanding academically and for so effectively incorporating our Roman Catholic Faith and values in the daily life of our children. A huge Saint Louis CONGRATULATIONS to our exceptional school community. Msgr. Luca THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK A person can do other things against his will, but belief is possible only in one who is willing. ~Saint Augustine THE ARCHBISHOP S ANNUAL APPEAL GIVE YOURSELF TO GOD (MATTHEW 6:24) The Archbishop s Annual Appeal is now underway. Many of our parishioners have received a mailing from Archbishop O Brien. He has asked that you make a pledge to the 2011 Archbishop s Annual Appeal. The Appeal not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. This year, the theme of the Appeal is, Give Yourself to God. Jesus taught us that if we give ourselves to God, He fills us up again. He also taught that God will never forget us. All that we have and all that we are is given to us by God. In thanksgiving for all that God gives to us, please give generously to the Archbishop s Annual Appeal. Your gift will enable archdiocesan support of ministry, education, and services that touch thousands of lives, not only in our Archdiocese but throughout the world. Our parish receives 25% of each dollar contributed up to our goal of $195, Then, we receive 50% of the additional funds received. This year, we will commit our parish rebates to: Our two sister parishes in Western Maryland: St. Joseph s Parish in Midland and St. Mary s Parish in Lonaconing St. Ambrose Parish in Baltimore City The Sister s Academy of Baltimore The Little Sisters of the Poor St. Louis Parish Needy Family Fund St. Louis School Tuition Assistance Fund. Please answer the Archbishop s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be billed in ten monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support.
