Tours across the United States and in the family's beloved Austria have given Elisabeth welldeserved recognition for her own talents and personality. Boston Globe--"Before the concert is over she will have the crowd gasping with the sheer beauty of her voice."; New York Times-- "Her voice is hauntingly clear and her lyrics tender and romantic."; Workingpoet--"Elisabeth von Trapp strikes the perfect balance between unity and eclecticism, between grace and edginess, between the heart and the head. It's time she receives the national recognition that she deserves...she shouldn't be anybody's best-kept-secret any longer." Although this is a free concert, a good will offering will be taken. BAGGED MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS: January 27 We will gather in the St. Andrew's kitchen at 4:00 PM this S aturday, January 27 to assemble 50 meals in support of ASPAN (Arlington Street Peoples' Assistance Network). Many hands make quick work and we'd like to invite you to share our blessings and join us for about an hour as we spread the peanut butter and give thanks for all of the blessings afforded to us. All ages are welcome -- it's a great teaching moment for our young people. Meals are funded by the St. Andrew's Endowment for Outreach and Human Needs and we are grateful for that ongoing support. If you would like to volunteer to deliver the meals at 6:00 PM to the park on N. Oakland Street behind St. George's, please contact Jennifer Gowetski at jennifer_gowetski@yahoo.com. We would love to expand our volunteer base for this important ministry! In addition, we are looking for volunteers to coordinate the sandwich making on March 24 and May 26. Quick Links: St. Andrew's Website ARLINGTON FOOD ASSISTANCE CENTER CONTRIBUTIONS St. Andrew's has made its last delivery of grocery donations to AFAC for 2017, and the total contributions for the year come to 929 pounds, matching our donations for 2015 and 2016, but falling 200 pounds short of our contributions for the previous four years. Please remember the baskets at the church doors for your donations of groceries to this important community ministry. If every family could bring just one can of beans each week, we would easily reach 2000 pounds a year. MESSAGE FROM PERE FRED

They sent greetings for you and all. Blessings!" --Père Fred MISSION TRIP TO HAITI See for yourself what Haiti and its people have going for them! The Blue Ridge School, our partners with St. Peter's School in Haiti, has offered us several spots on their mission trip March 2-8, Each traveler would be responsible for their share of the costs, which is projected to be $1600 for flights, ground transportation, and room and board. The flights to/from Port-au-Prince will be via Miami. Their group will include the Rev. Anne West, school chaplain, as well as students and teachers. If you're interested, please let Carol Kiranbay know as soon as possible, but not later than early February. EPISCOPAL 101 Father Steve is conducting classes on the structure and beliefs of the Episcopal Church. The remaining session is on Monday evening, January 29, beginning at 7:00 p.m. If persons want to know more about our church or want to be confirmed by Bishop Jones on Sunday, February 4, please consider attending this session. FAMILY MINISTRY SCOOP From last S unday: During the Parish Annual Meeting, we held our own Family Service Annual Meeting reviewing how we as individuals and a parish followed Jesus in the past year. We also made an "Alleluia" banner that we will "bury" during Lent and "resurrect" at Easter. Family Discussion: As a family, hold your own Annual Meeting -- wonder how to worship differently, serve other in new ways, pray and read the bible more often, and play together!

4 Prayer Starter: Dear God, thank you for calling each one of us to follow you and help us to be faithful in answering the call to discipleship. Amen. Next Sunday: Our focus will be on baptism (using Godly Play) as we prepare to celebrate a Baptism at the 10 am service. Save the Date: Snow Tubing in February -- All families are welcome to join SAY on a snow tubing adventure at Whitetail Resort on Sunday, February 18 after the 10 am service. The age requirement for the large runs is 5 and there is "Kiddie" tubing for children ages 2-4. ( Please let Diane know by Friday, February 16 if your family is planning on participating as we may qualify for a group rate. AFAC EMPTY BOWLS SOUP LUNCHEON The 6th annual Empty Bowls Soup Luncheon will be held at St. Andrew's on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4. There are 2 seatings: 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. You get delicious soup made by area chefs, bread, dessert plus a hand-thrown bowl created by a local artist for $35 (children under 5 free). This is a fund raiser for Arlington Food Assistance Center ( Tickets for the event are sold-out but ten tickets for the 11:30 a.m. seating have been set aside for St. Andrew's. A sign-up sheet for the ten reserved seats is posted on S.A.Y. SAY in February Bishop's Visit and Confirmation: Sunday, February 10 am Snow Whitetail: Sunday, February 18 (after 10 am service) Georgetown v. Syracuse Basketball Game: Saturday, February 24 (10 am-3 pm) Please let Diane know by Friday, February 16 if you plan on going snow tubing and/or to the basketball and if you are bringing friends. MURDER MYSTERY BOOK CLUB RETURNS FOR A WINTER TREAT Our Summer Murder Mystery Book Club was so popular, we decided to bring it back for the winter! We'll next piece together the clues in "A Morbid Taste for Bones" by Ellis Peters, the first book in the Brother Cadfael series. We'll meet to discuss it on February 24 at Sarah Petcher's home at 2 p.m. We hope you can join us then! FARM FRESH PRODUCE PLUS... David and Christina Jernigan, along with their 8-year-old daughter Riley, are distributing farm-fresh produce Thursday afternoons from 3:00-6:30 p.m. in the upper parking lot. Anyone from the parish who would like to purchase produce and products (at the same price the CSA members pay for the fresh local items such as tomatoes, lettuce, English cucumbers, apples, local raw honey, pastured eggs, and fresh beef) is invited to come by.
