2 Most Wise Master Jeffrey S. Moyer The Commander- in-chief Ill. Irwin A. Kohler, 33 Every year for the past 14 years we visit friends to enjoy fellowship for the super bowl. This year was a bit different. This year our youngest grandson wanted to enjoy the game in his new home with poppop and provide all the food and refreshments that HE prepared! Now remember, he is a football player himself. Although neither of our preferred teams made it to the super bowl we both would have liked to see the outcome a little different. In the first half, we were ecstatic, but hoping to see a better game. Early on we expected more competition. The second half proved very different; the game became exciting. We were sitting on the edge of our seats. We were watching history in the making; a tie super bowl going into overtime. After the game came the accolades. But when you come right down to it, a successful football team cannot rely only on one individual. It requires team work. The coach directs from the sidelines while the team has to execute the plays. The quarterback can lead but the members of the team must follow. There is no I in team. Everyone has to work together with a genuine smile, a sincere enthusiasm and a positive outlook. As Coach Bear Bryant would say, Anything goes bad, I did it. Anything goes semi-good, then we did it. If anything goes real good, then you did it! That s what it takes to get people to win a football game. Together with persistence, determination and the support of its members, we can lead our Scottish Rite Valley into the future. I d like all the 136 new members of the Class of 2016 to take part in the upcoming reunion and make your new memories! That would be great! I would like to see everyone come out and support our upcoming valley events: March 11 Combined County Club Ladies Night, March 19 is our Joint Ladies Spring Tea with the ladies from Rajah Shrine, and of course March 26 the Feast of the Paschal Lamb, when the Knights of the Rose Croix will honor all our brothers who have passed, remember this is a sacred and solemn service. Don t forget Saturday, April 1 st, the Ladies Fashion Show. Sincerely and Fraternally, Irwin A. Kohler, 33, C-in-C Butch For some time I ve been thinking about the topic for this message, fellowship. Good topic, maybe not, tabled it, good topic, maybe not, tabled it, and on and on. Have you ever struggled with an idea or decision, can t decide, deliberate some more, then thankfully God intercedes. He speaks to us in the still small voice of conscience, in the secret recesses of our own souls (14 th degree) or he has someone say the right words. On January 6 th officers from the Valley of Reading attended the Feast of the Epiphany held at the Valley of Allentown. We had an enjoyable evening and the food was excellent. While gathering our coats and discussing the good time we had Ill. Brother Steve Gardner, 33, Commander-in-Chief for the Valley of Allentown said with conviction shame on us for not sharing with our Brothers the fellowship we enjoy while visiting other Valleys. The first aha moment. After our Executive Committee meeting January 16 th, Ill. Brother Irvin A. Kohler, 33, our Commander-in-Chief, commented Freemasonry is not the degrees we achieve, the jewels we collect, the past titles we acquire, Freemasonry is the fellowship and the friends we make. The second aha moment. Decision made. The definition of fellowship is a friendly association, especially with people who share one s interests. Some of the synonyms for fellowship include camaraderie, companionship, togetherness, solidarity, and friendship. Fellowship is the easiest thing to find in our fraternity. All of us took the same obligations; all of us traveled the same road. We share a common interest, to make ourselves better. You don t have to memorize rituals, you don t have to run a meeting, and you don t have to serve on a committee to find fellowship. You don t even have to know names, hello Brother works every time. If you re reading this message take a few extra minutes and see what s happening in the Valley. Try to attend one event, and let me know about your fellowship with your new friends. 11 GOLDEN EAGLES With the New Year in gear, I wonder how many New Year Resolutions we have already broken and how many we have yet to fulfill. I am guessing that many of you have yet to fulfill the resolution to give the Golden Eagles meeting a try. A good meal complete with entrée, salad and dessert and beverage for $8.00 with NO TAX and NO GRATUITY. That in itself is a deal you will not get at any restaurant in Berks County; PLUS you get to dine with brethren and friends you might already know. I DO HOPE that everyone will AT LEAST, make one visit to a meeting the third Wednesday of every month at 12 noon. Please call Don and Barb Loos at to make reservations so we have an accurate count to have enough food for all. There is always a good program and brief meeting.
