2 The Commander-in-Chief Ill. Herbert K. Swisher, 33 Thrice Potent Master s Corner Happy New Year. It is hard to believe that the Fall Reunion and Holiday Happenings are already a memory. My sincere thanks to everyone who participated on stage, back stage, and helped to make the Fall Reunion and the Holiday Happenings events a success. We had a lot of fun!!! I'd like to extend my congratulations to our newest members. It was especially rewarding to see members from my Blue Lodge join Scottish Rite in the Valley of Reading. Welcome to all! To all of our newest members, I encourage you to attend our meetings and social functions. Get involved, make new friends, and experience the great things we have to offer. We would like to get to know you. Start off by attending our Stated Meeting, and bring your significant other to enjoy dinner before the meeting. The ladies always have a fine program while we attend to our business. We would also love for each and every one of you to find a way to participate at our Reunions. If you are asked to get involved, please consider giving it a try. It will be the start of a lifetime of wonderful memories. It's a new year, try something new. Try Scottish Rite. I hope to see you on the stage. I can t get over how time flies by! It seems like we just started rehearsals and preparations for the fall reunion and it is already past. Before you know it the holiday season will be here and gone and a New Year will be upon us. Prior to the New Year our Valley will be hosting a lot of events, and I hope that you will stop by and enjoy them. I know that a lot of people have been working very hard to make the Holiday Happening weekends a huge success!!. Along with the usual attractions we will be having some new ones this year. On the first Saturday come out and enjoy the sounds of Tuba Christmas. And on the second Saturday evening of Holiday Happenings you will want to come out and enjoy the performance of the play entitled December s Rose performed by our very own Scottish Rite members. I want to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season and a very Merry Christmas, and may God continue to bless each of you and your families and this Great Country! VALLEY NOTICE Is a publication of the four bodies of the Valley of Reading, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction and is the official notice of meetings, events and activities of the Valley. 3 Sovereign Prince Speaks Robert C. Baessler Most Wise Master s Moment The year 2012 ended with two wonderful weekends of Holiday Happenings at the Cathedral. The time and energy spent in preparing was definitely well worth it. It was extremely rewarding to see the looks on the children's faces as they sat on Santa lap and got their presents, watched the trains whiz by, got a balloon sculpture from Schmo the clown, sat on a motorcycle had their picture taken and were then embossed with a tattoo, went fishing for a gift, gaze and interact with the huge Lego display, enjoy the music of many tuba players at Tuba Christmas, watch the Scottish Rite players present December Rose, stepped outside to view the manger scene and pause for a moment, enjoy the many Christmas trees decorating the lobby and mostly the delicious cookies and hot chocolate. Wow, there sure was a lot of activity that could not have been possible without the help of many hard working people. To anyone who assisted in making Holiday Happenings at the Cathedral a success, I give my heartfelt THANK YOU. Now that 2012 has passed, I sincerely wish that 2013 is a prosperous and rewarding year to everyone. If you haven t already done so, take a step forward in Scottish Rite Masonry. Become involved!!! You will be welcomed on any degree team, committee or County Club. If you don't know who to ask, just call the office and Tex or Lois will help you get started on a worthwhile journey. Now, sit back and read through the Valley Notice. Look at the activities being offered and support the Valley with your attendance. Especially be on the lookout for activities involving the women and take your other half. I'm sure you will have an enjoyable time Last but not least, don't forget to attend the Stated Meeting on January 22. Bring a brother. May God Bless! Those of you who were not able to attend the November Reunion missed fine renditions of the several degrees conferred by your fellow Scottish Rite Masons. Those of you who are new to The Valley Of Reading are privileged to have affiliated with members of a noble Valley and fine officers. You were able to witness the several degrees on stage, but I would remind each member of the Valley, there are many Scottish Rite members who labor behind the stage for each degree that is conferred. Without these dedicated Masons, the degrees would not be able to be conferred. An argument can be made that these Masons are more important than the stage actors as without these back stage participants none of the degree conferrals would be possible. We must remember that each member of the Scottish Rite who participates does so because of his desire to present the best of the Valley to its new members and visitors. He does this as the result devotion to Masonry and the Valley and the payment are degrees well performed and presented by the Valley. I thank each of the officers of Rose Croix for your support in the November reunion including our new neophyte, Bob Hoyes. The Feast of the Pascal Lamb is scheduled for Sunday, March 17, 2013, 2 PM, in the Consistory Hall. The Feast remembers the members of the Valley who have completed their journey in this world during the last year. My daughter Catharine Irene Miller Kilgore has agreed to sing during this year s feast. I hope that each of you will consider attending the Holiday Happenings and view the train displays, tuba Christmas, the play December Rose, and the other related activities of those two weekends in December. My best wishes to the cast of December Rose, for a great performance by each member of the cast. May God Bless All The Members of the Valley and I hope to see you at the Stated Meeting, Tuesday, January 22,

5 SCOTTISH RITE MEMBERSHIP COMBINED COUNTY CLUBS LADIES NIGHT AND YOU Each of us has been accepted and advanced in our great Masonic Journey. We can refer to one similar definition as a ring. Webster sometimes refers to a ring as a group of people working together to advance in their own interests. The privilege we have of accomplishing this is never ending due to the fact that the history itself continues to go on. Sometimes groups in the valley have been known as cliques. This is true simply because of the fact that they are serving or acting towards a common goal. This is true of many other members who belong to an even larger ring also known as the clique who doesn't participate or get involved with the other cliques offerings. Layman s terms simply refer them as couch potatoes. To be able to continue seeing the valley grow and maintain stability we must all be one of the cliques who are working and participating as much as possible, even if it s only attending a few functions and offering support in any way possible. Let those involved with little cliques know what s appreciated and ask what you can do to help. APRIL 27, 2013 Open To All Members, Your Significant Other and Your Guests. Music will be provide by the SENSATIONS which is composed of a group of five well rounded, well-traveled and well accomplished musicians coming direct from Schuylkill County. The evening will start at 6:00 pm with a sit down family style meal with all the fixings in the Zimmerman Banquet Hall at the Cathedral. Then sit back, relax and tap your feet to the sounds of the 50 s and 60s at 7:45pm. Do you remember the first time you heard that certain song? Come reminisce and remember. Tables of eight can be reserved. Request your tickets now. Combined dinner and show tickets are $30.00 each $10.00 for the show only. Checks made payable to Reading Lodge of Perfection A self-addressed stamped envelope should be sent to: The Valley of Reading, A.A.S.R. P.O.
