REMEMBERING EDWARD SCHULTZ One of the great pillars of the Miamisburg Temple, WB Edward F Schultz, left this life on January 27 th, 2015, after a long illness. He was 94. WB Schultz was born in Dayton on September 26 th, 1920, and graduated from Miamisburg High School in Schultz received his first three degrees in Freemasonry at Minerva Lodge #98 in He served his Lodge as Worshipful Master in He was a 69 year member of Trinity Chapter #44 RAM, and a 67 year member of Valley Commandery #80 KT. Schultz was also a 67 year member of Adoniram Council #131 RSM, where he was Illustrious Master in Edward Schultz was coroneted an honorary 33 rd degree Mason, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, in September of He was said to have signed over 200 petitions for others. For many, WB Schultz was best known as the longest serving secretary in Minerva Lodge history. He was elected in 1962 and served continuously until 2007 a term of 45 years. During his tenure, he nearly singlehandedly reorganized and salvaged the Lodge records and finances. When he took over, Ed was alleged to have paid some expenses out of his own pocket until all the books were in order. WB Edward Schultz had just received his 70 year pin from Minerva Lodge the week prior to his death. Masonic services were held on Saturday, January 31 st. Nearly 40 brothers attended, including most of the surviving Past Masters of Minerva Lodge. 2 Trinity Chapter #44, Royal Arch Masons Richard Poore, High Priest Companions, The inspection season is winding down and I am very proud of the showing that Trinity Chapter has made this year in the 3rd Capitular District. Some of our companions were at as many as 15 inspections. We have been very active and that activity will continue into the spring. At our April 7th convocation, we will be portraying the Past Master degree. On April 21st, we will be doing the Most Excellent Master degree. On May 5th, we will perform the Royal Arch degree. At our June 2nd convocation, we will elect a new slate of officers. It has been a great year and I thank all the companions of Trinity Chapter #44 for your enthusiasm and support. Adoniram Council #131, Royal and Select Masons McKinley Polston, Illustrious Master Companions, We are getting ready for the Super Excellent Master degree on Friday, March 20th. The annual Fish Fry will start at 6pm come early and come hungry. Tickets are $10. Please bring your significant others. There will be a ladies program. The degree work will commence at 7pm. Ten companions from Adoniram Council joined me on Saturday, March 7th, for the final day of the 79th Annual York Rite Reunion at the Dayton Temple. We attended the Royal Master degree for Reece Council #9 and the Select Master degree for Silver Trowel Council #141. In total, there were 49 companions from nine Councils, including four Knights of the York Crosses of Honour and five 33rd degree Masons. Eight candidates, including one from Adoniram, received very fine degrees. Our own RIC Michael Smith was the 3rd Arch Inspector. In his report, he announced that Reece Council led the State of Ohio last year in donations to the Diabetic Kids Fund - an impressive $5,000! That is certainly a good example to follow. Our final three assemblies before we go dark will be on April 10, May 8, and June 12. The election of officers will be at the June assembly; we hope to see you there. Valley Commandery #80, Knights Templar Claude Seibel, Eminent Commander Sir Knights, I hope you can join us for our stated conclaves this spring. Our next covered dish dinner will be at 6:30pm on March 20th. In April, there will be a change. The Grand Commander, Thomas H Gault, Sr, will be visiting so we will have dinner at the first conclave on April 6th. MEC Gault will be received under an Arch of Steel. Sir Knights, this means we should be dressed in full uniform if at all possible. At the second conclave on April 20th, we will be conferring the Order of the Red Cross for one candidate. As we move into May, we will try to schedule the Order of Malta. Our annual Election of Officers will be held on Monday, June 1st. Please plan to attend. Until we meet again, may the Lord bless you and keep you.

3 Minerva Lodge #98, Free and Accepted Masons Adam Gillman, Worshipful Master Brothers, Our Annual Inspection on February 19th went very well. I want to first of all thank Brother Paul Miller for putting together a fine lasagna dinner. Our pro-tem candidate received the Entered Apprentice degree in fine form with all the officers performing their parts like pros. WB Michael Cockroft delivered an outstanding lecture and Brother Shaun Warren gave the charge for the first time and was word perfect! RWB Troy Davis reported that our records and finances are in order. We have two lectures and nine charges in the officer line that s an area where we can improve. Our District Education Officer, WB Leo Budenz, noted that we did twelve Lodge Education programs last year, including the four required by the Grand Lodge. Sixty-five brothers attended, representing fifteen Lodges. Thirty-two were Minerva members fifteen of whom were Past Masters. The traveling gavel went to Ben Franklin Lodge #719. At our February 26th stated meeting Loud Tie Night Brother Brian Hyer won the prize, a tie dye kit. Moving into March, we are very busy getting our candidates through their degrees. On Past Masters Night, March 12th, we portrayed the Master Mason degree for one candidate. WBs Steve Stemple and Kent Crager delivered the lecture and Brother Brian Hyer, the charge. On Thursday, March 19th, we held a Special Meeting to initiate THREE new Entered Apprentices. The stated meeting on Thursday, March 26th, will be a special evening. We will be visited by brothers from Nova Caesarea Harmony Lodge #2 and Tippecanoe Lodge #174. We will have a spaghetti dinner at 6:30 before the meeting. There is no charge for the dinner but donations are welcome. That night, we will pass one candidate to the degree of Fellow Craft. Other important dates to remember include: Thursday, April 26th, 6pm: dinner at Bullwinkle s prior to the stated meeting. Family and friends are welcome; Saturday, May 2nd, 9am: Spring Highway Clean-up. We meet at Rice Field on Old Rt 25.; Saturday, May 16th, 7am to 10am: Craft Club Spring Fling breakfast. $7 for adults, children under 10 are free. Thursday, May 28th: Charlie Thomas Night. Dinner after the stated meeting; Saturday, June 6th, 3pm to 8pm: Burgers and Bluegrass in the Temple parking lot; Thursday, June 25th: Farmers Night, the final stated meeting before we go dark for the summer. Casual dress (no shorts or sandals). Keep checking your s for weekly Temple updates. I m sure more degree work is on the horizon. Lodge Shirts are Available Brothers, there are still some Minerva Lodge shirts from the Craft Club shirt sale. They will be sold on a first come/ first serve basis. Various sizes are available and the cost is $25. Contact WB Steve Stemple if you want one or, better yet, come to your Lodge and pick one up!

4 Temple Board Paul Miller, President Happily, there are no major repairs or issues to mention this time. We have kept the Temple roof over our heads and the floor under our feet for another season. We will be working on more renovation and painting this summer, but for now all is well. WB Jason Sorah reports that the dining room is being rented on a regular basis. We would like to see this trend continue, brothers, so please remember our facility when you plan your business and family events. Looking ahead, the Temple Board and the Craft Club will be parking cars at the Ohio Renaissance Festival several weekends in September and October. This is an opportunity for the Temple to make money and we are going to need volunteers. As the time gets closer, we will pass around the sign-up sheet. Thank you to WB Kent Crager for setting this up for us. Join us for our meeting at 6:30pm on the second Thursday of the month. Craft Club Allen Jackson, President Once again, I have to say how proud I am of the Craft. Our Master Mason degree on March 12th was something to behold and I want to thank all the brothers who played their parts so well. WM Gillman has a lot of degree work scheduled for this spring. As these candidates move through their EAs and FCs, we will be planning more Master Mason degrees. If you have not yet walked in the Craft or if you have not done so for a while, I encourage you to let me know. We can find a place for you. Degree work is much more meaningful when you participate. The Spring Fling breakfast will be on Saturday, May 16th, from 7am to 10am. We need help to make it work smoothly, of course, but think of this as a time to invite our families and friends to our Masonic home too. Join us if you can. See you at our next meeting on the first Thursday at 7:30pm. Scottish Rite Spring Reunion The Valley of Dayton, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, will hold its annual Spring Reunion on April 10 and April 11, announcements will come out with the list of degrees and times.

He used his musical gifts with the Kettering Civic Band, Letter Carriers Band, Sauerkraut Band, Windjammers Unlimited, Fairborn Civic Band, Star City Band, the United States Air Force Band and Musicians Union, as well as area dance bands. In addition to membership at Minerva Lodge #98, he belonged to Valley of Dayton AASR and Antioch Shrine, where he was director of the Troubadours, the Brass Band, and the Potes Little Symphony. Additional funeral services were held on February 5th in Brookville, Indiana, before final interment in Laurel, Indiana. WB Steve Holland, Past Master of Minerva Lodge in 1985, died on February 20th, He was born in Clay County, Kentucky, on December 12th, WB Holland served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. WB Holland was a fixture at countless events at the Miamisburg Temple, telling stories and sharing his love for Freemasonry while sipping his cup of coffee. Masonic services were held on February 24th, 2015, attended by over 20 brothers. Brother Holland was laid to rest at Springboro Cemetery with military honors. Church Visitations Continue Into the Spring We have been cheerfully welcomed at the church services we have attended so far. 6 Masonic Education on the Calendar The 2015 Ritual/Lecture Schools have been a great success so far. Six brothers have completed the Masonic code courses and the officers manual course. As many of you know, these are required classes for all line officers but any brother can benefit from the information provided. At the next two schools, our DEO, WB Leo Budenz, will bring the Typewritten Ritual. On Saturday, March 28th, we will be reading through the Entered Apprentice and Fellow Craft degrees. The school on April 25th will focus on the Master Mason degree. The final Ritual/Lecture school of the season will be on Saturday, May 23rd. The DEOs Evenings of Education will be on April 15th, May 20th, and June 17th. Wardens and deacons should plan to attend. These seminars provide leadership advice as well as open sessions for questions and answers with Lodge officers from all over the 2nd District. Making these invaluable connections with brothers outside your home Lodge not only creates great lines of communication but helps to boost attendance at events that you plan. First Quarter Masonic Symposium The Masonic Restoration Foundation s First Quarter Symposium was held at Minerva Lodge on Saturday, January 31 from 12-4pm. Over 60 Brothers were present to enjoy the fellowship, have some lunch courtesy of the Second District Officers Association, and to hear the excellent presentations from WB Robert Herd and WB Timothy Hogan
