I would like to start off the year with a big Thank You to the Officer s, Committee Chairs, and all Brother Knights from Council 7449 who s hard work and contributions made this past Fraternal Year such a success. There is an article in the newsletter from Tom Wilson that outlines our Council s achievements and the recognition we received at the State Convention. I could not be more proud to be associated with such an amazing council that touches the lives of so many of God s children. Congratulations to our newly elected officers for this year. I look forward to working with you as we carry out our mission of Charity and Good Works for our fellow Knights, Families, and all of God s children. We will certainly be relying on God s grace and the prayers of our family members as we embark on another year of service. I would also like to thank our newly appointed committee chairmen for volunteering their time and energy to lead our council in conducting the important activities that make our council so special. In typical 7449 fashion we are going to hit the ground running with a slew of activities in August. Brother Knights, as you can see by the calendar that is attached to this newsletter, there is no shortage of activities in which to participate. I ask you to find an activity that interests you and get involved. That is how we keep our council moving forward. On a final note, I look forward to working with each of you and your families this coming year. I am truly honored to be the Grand Knight of council 7449 and eager to do the work that Fr. McGivney started over 130 years ago. Programs God Bless You - Vivat Jesus! Chris Cambre Grand Knight Council 7449 KofC7449@bellsouth.net Our council received great recognition for many of our accomplishments this past fraternal year, at the recent Knights of Columbus State Convention. We were awarded the state Health Activity Award for the Health program put together by our brother Tom Fristick and the state Vocations Activity Award for the support the seminarians program done by brother Tom Bachman. We also received The Bishops Award, The Chaplains Award and the State Deputy Award. Program Director - Tom Wilson Page 1

3 Family Germantown Knights Of Columbus #7449 Family Feeling Hot! Hot! Hot! This years annual family campout was held the last weekend in June at Wall Doxey State Park MS. We had campers, brother Knights and families attend our picnic that was held on Saturday. The heat was definitely on but spirits remained high. We played hard, horseshoes, ladder ball, and we chilled, grilled and ate well. Thank god for the fans, water mister, and hoses to keep our cool. It was a great time of friendship and fellowship despite the heat, and we are looking forward to our next campout. Please remember Family prayer week August 6th 13th. We will need volunteers after Mass to help pass out our K of C Prayer Cards. Vocations Church Family Chair - Brother Darren Arnoult Through the Knights of Columbus Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP), our council adopts one or more seminarians or postulants and provide them with financial assistance and moral support. RSVP money is used by seminarians and those in religious formation for tuition and books, car insurance and maintenance, travel during vacations, emergency expenditures and other living expenses. Knights provide more than financial support, though. Members write letters to students, sponsor dinners for them, invite them to join the Order and, most importantly, pray for vocations. Last year, we supported three Seminarians thanks to your generous donations and will continue to do so this fraternal year. Tom Bachman - Chairman Do You have One Hour for Jesus? 24 Hour Eucharistic Adoration Jesus waits for us each day in our Churches around the world. We have a special gift at OLPH every first Friday of the month. Twenty Four Hour Adoration and Benediction is available starting with 8:15 Mass on First Friday and ending with Benediction before the 8:15 Mass on Saturday. We especially need your presence from 11:00 pm Friday to 6:00 am Saturday. Please join us! Jesus waits for YOU. Jim Jacobs - Church Chairman Soup Kitchen St Vincent DePaul The first Saturday of each Month is our schedule date for this activity. If you would like to get involved in the Soup Kitchen, please contact Brother Bill Satterlee at Brother Bill Satterlee Chairman wcsatt@bellsouth.net Page 3
4 Pro-Life Germantown Knights Of Columbus #7449 Prayer to End Abortion Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself Never to be silent, Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes A nation with liberty and justice Not just for some, but for all, Through Christ our Lord. Amen! Written by Priests for Life, one of the chief Catholic pro-life organizations, this prayer expresses our commitment to the protection of all of the unborn. Pray for Life - Brother Ed Cabrera Community Brother Knights as we start off our new 2012/2013 Fraternal Year, let me start off by saying, Thank You, for allowing me to once again represent our council as our Community Director. 7 Push Marvin & Amy Over the Edge Once again Marvin & Amy Schaefer and other brother Knights have signed up to go Over the Edge for Special Olympics on August 25th. For those of you that haven t heard, Over the Edge consists of rappelling from the I-Bank Building (formerly White Station Tower) here in Memphis (approximately 240 feet). All our Knights participants need to raise a minimum of $1,000 each in order to qualify. Special Olympics sponsors many wonderful programs here in Memphis and Council 7449 has been great to support them in the past. This is your chance to, again, help a great program that has done so much good for so many. All donations to Special Olympics of Memphis qualify as tax-deductible! No donation is too small (or large). Please make checks payable to Special Olympics of Memphis and forward all donations to: Marvin Schaefer, 7915 Farindon Drive, Germantown, TN Please help support "Team Schaefer" and other Knights with your donations (or at the very least, your prayers!) And please save August 25, 2012 on your calendar to come out to meet and cheer on the dozens of other fools, uhhh, I mean supporters, who also plan to go Over the Edge, along with many of the athletes it benefits. We will let everyone know later what time our council members are scheduled to rappel. Thanks so much for your help! God Bless You!
