5 August 2018 Elks Round-Up Pg. 5 House Committee. Well, our new Elk year is in full swing and things are starting to come together and run more smoothly. Thanks to all the volunteers and employees who work together to make the lodge a great place for our members to gather as a community. The NFL Preseason kicks off in August, so plan to come support your favorite team and watch the games on our three screens. Check out the calendar for the menus and dates for events at the lodge. Please let me know if you are interested in a Guest Chef opportunity; we need people every month, if you can take a turn please let me know. Fraternally yours, Sara Robertson House Rule 8 Employees are under the direction of the House Committee. Members and Guests will neither call upon employees for service which would take them from their regular duties, nor reprimand them for any reason. Any complaints about employees must be directed to the House Committee. Auxiliary Message Theodore Roosevelt once said, Comparison is the thief of joy. As the summer season is drawing to an end, this particular sentiment has often crossed my mind. Children will be returning to school soon with tales of their summer adventures, or lack thereof. They will come home and groan about the unfairness of it all and we ll console them with promises of the future and lessons of the past. But too often, we find ourselves feeling the exact same way. We compare our lives with that of our friends or coworkers. We may even compare where we re at in life with where we think we should be or could ve been. It is not wrong to feel this way. It s a natural part of life and the best path is not to fight this emotion, but to use it as fuel. Make small steps every day towards what you want or who you want to be. But most of all, don t let the lives of others dictate the one you make for yourself. Find joy in your accomplishments big or small, and share in the joy of the accomplishments of others. Happiness is not just a state of being, it s a conscious choice made every day you decide to walk out the door with a smile on. Choose happiness and happiness will choose you. Alicia Caballero Auxiliary President
