2 March 2018 Page 2 Page 2 Topics for our General Meeting Respect Life Since 1968, the Knights of Columbus has raised and donated more than $600 million to programs for people with intellectual and physical disabilities - Special Olympics ranks among the larger gifts the Order makes annually of time and money. The Knights of Columbus commitment to Special Olympics and to hundreds of grassroots programs for people with intellectual and physical disabilities is an expression of our belief in the intrinsic worth of every human being. The Knights of Columbus believe that the Special Olympics are nearly unparalleled in their ability to show the intrinsic worth and dignity of every single human being. These games don't just build strength and character in the athletes and participants; it only takes a few moments with the competitors to be inspired by the force of their determination, and the true sense of God's love. In summary, although the Special Olympics have grown in recent years, they still need our continued support. We must continually encourage our chapters and parishes in the Eastern Region of Washington State to organize fundraisers, events, and donation drives that will continue to benefit this magnificent event. The Special Olympics are too wonderful to overlook, and the Knights of Columbus are committed to bringing the games to all corners of the globe, including Eastern Washington. Needed volunteers: to help with parking assistance and directing buses as they offload and load their teams before and after competition. to run two warming huts at Chair #1 and Chair #5. They serve hot cocoa, tea, coffee, cookies and healthy snacks to athletes and volunteers. Each warming hut services around 100 individuals throughout the day with a limited budget for I tems. to man the information tables at Lodge #1 and Lodge #2. They provide tournament info (Maps, schedules, meal vouchers, etc...) and work with third party radio operator to ensure all communication for the tournament is received and relayed if needed. They also direct teams and spectators as they arrive. to help process results as they come in during the tournament, and then help stage and present awards at he end of the tournament. to help guide teams at the top of the mountain to their respective courses. Mt. Spokane requested that these volunteers know how to ski/snowboard, and that they have their own equipment who could use their car to run equipment, results, and volunteers between the two lodges before, during, and after the tournament. who could help sell merchandise (shirts, hats, sweatshirts, etc...). Congratulations! 2018 Free Throw Volunteers The professional actions of our team resulted in yet another memorable "Free Throw Contest" that our children will not forget. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding performance of your entire staff and their positive representation of the Knights by cheering them on with a hearty "Well Done!" Safe, consistent, quality service with a positive mental attitude are their hallmarks.
